It's about time you did this :) This really transforms the Aquila! You might want show to how to create a bed mesh level and also how to add start code to the slicer so it retrieves the mesh bed settings after saving in Aquila of course..
@@3DPrintSOS Every time I power off my Aquila, I have to go back into Alex's firmware and turn on "Leveling Active". Is there a way to make this always on even after a power cycle?
Thank You for all your videos!I This was one issue with my Aquilla that was very scary.I reflashed the firmware yesterday following your video. It worked perfectly. One of the first things I did to the printer was change out the fans.Coffee coming!
Thank you so much for the help and detailed instructions. Just wanted to add a tip if anyone was struggling with this. I had an off brand SD card that was 4 gig and even after following your instructions to a T, it still would not complete and give me the check mark. I had to use an entirely different SD card and then it worked. If people are still having problems just try a few different SD cards to see if it solves your problem.
Thanks! This worked flawlessly. The thought of bricking my printer was daunting so I was always afraid to do this. I updated my firmware alongside you in the video. I appreciate your work.
Thank you for the step by step tutorial. I am deeply appreciative. Just bought my first 3D printer (Aquila) yesterday and am having to troubleshoot bed leveling (made easier by the firmware from this video).
Thanks for this video. Didn't know that custom firmware was an option until I found this! Had some trouble getting the printer to update but a quick format of the SD card did the trick. Keep up the awesome content!
Got my first printer about two weeks ago. Aquilla X2 N32, and have just been having a hell of a time getting the bed level, it's just a never ending cycle of twist (the knob) and shout (at the bed). I was going to get a leveling probe, but it just seemed difficult to install and then I'd have to load Alex's firmware blah blah blah. After seeing this video, I decided to load Alex's firmware with the manual mesh just for the thermal protection. WOWZERZ, now I get the power of the probe without the probe. Well I guess I am the probe really. And I second the request for a video on how to use manual mesh properly and a run down of the other features of Alex's firmware.
Excellent as usual Feddor - great instructions. It's pathetic for these issues to continue to exist in machines 2020/2021. Flashforge/Voxelab should be ashamed.
About to put mine together this week. Had it for 3 months in box.. just waiting to build and watching everything you got!!! After seeing Tom's Vid last week I' ve been looking up New firmware. Perfect timing! And can't wait for more content on this firmware. Thanks !
First of all, thank you very much for contributing these videos to the community that we have recently acquired or are about to acquire AQUILA printers !!!! I want to contribute my experience when updating the display, I could not do it in any way, until I read the instructions provided by Voxlab where it said that the MicroSD card should be formated at 4096bits !!!!! And holy solution !!!! I hope I can help another like me who was unable to update the display !!!! Thank you very much and greetings to all!
Installed as per your video and the upgrade went very well. I had a particular error with the original Voxelab firmware, that seems to have gone away now. Many thanks
That thermal run away happened to my original aquila, I didn't realize what happened at first lol and didn't realize how scary it was. Watching that video finally made me update to Alex's firmware. It's sooo much better.
Thank you very much for the video. Was at first struggling but on windows 11 it changed the DWIN_SET to a shortcut, so i changed that and it worked great thank you
Happy to see you guys have a safe printer now, Jyers FW is legendary, so many features the vendor couldn't/wouldn't be bothered to include on the printer.
Installed and printed the new LCD bracket and firmware, 1000% nicer then the original thank you very much and to Alex that wrote the firmware. nicest upgrade to date.
The bltouch bin files are for different amount of probe points, and high speed or low speed probing. So 3x3 probes 9 points, and hs, makes the probe stay deployed during probing, which is a little faster.
One thing you didn't mention or if you did, I missed it, is to write down your movement configurations. I had changed my steps per mm for my extruder because I changed out to a dual drive, and it didn't save my steps per mm after the flash. Good thing I had it written down. Thanks for the great video, now I have a safer Aquila!!!! :)
Ok so I loaded this firmware in I got to say I like the changes it has done. The manual leveling feature is so much easier. It moves through 9 locations on the bed and allows you to make changes to each part as a micro change instead of moving the wheels underneath. I'm getting perfect 1st layers using prusa slicer with this. Amazing changes to all aspects of the program.
ok, I have the x2 (n32) Aquila. what I don't know is which 3x3, 4x4, 5x5...I don't even know what that references...? I've done some fan upgrades and tube. I am having problems with the steel nozzle not performing well...? thanks way in advance for help.
The 3x3 is referring to the grid the mesh will use. In my opinion, 9 points is good enough for such a small bed. That’s why I went with it. You can do more if you’d like.
Just did this firmware update today and man you made it easy to follow ! I thank you again sir ! I've done all the modifications to my X2 so far by following your videos ! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙌🏽
@@KSa-ld7cp there should be a sticker in the top off your printer, under the build plate that says either N32 or H32, you will need the corresponding firmware. Then just follow the same instructions in the video.
@@KSa-ld7cp maybe retry doing it, and follow each step very carefully, including renaming the folders, otherwise your machine will not know what to do with the files. Do not fast forward any of the video, I would recommend doing each step as it comes up in the video, then pause it, complete the step, then move to the next step. I also have the N32 version and it worked perfectly on my machine. 👍🏽
Great Tutorial!!! I will say this, after flashing firmware multiple times, you do not have to remove the firmware folder. When it installs the firmware, it deletes the .bin file from inside the folder. I just keep dumping a new firmware into the folder when needed.
@@3DPrintSOS I totally understand. I was running Alex's firmware when I had a hot end issue and went back to stock and back to Alex and back to stock making sure it wasn't a firmware or board issue.(turned out to be a faulty thremocouple and a bad heat break)
Bryan’s RUclips video on manual mesh bed levelling using JyersUI which looks the same as The Alex firmware, takes you through the steps of Manual bed levelling on a Ender 3V2. I tried it out on the Aquila and is has worked perfectly, I would like to give a big thank you to all you guys for your great tutorials on 3D printing.
I just think it was really unfair of Tom to say it was an issue with the Aquila and for him not to mention that the Ender 3's had similar and worse issues. I had two Ender 3's that had no thermal runaway from stock! Fantastic video as always buddy. Keep it up. ❤️
I'm loving the videos! one video idea: how fast you can print on a "stock" vox lab aquila printer with .4mm nozzle with PLA. maybe even showing other hot end sizes as well, maybe even show some cheap upgrades that can greatly increase print speeds, show comparing the quality. just an idea!
Printer came early, assembled it and oh boy is this machine amazing! So happy about my purchase. Thank you for the wonderful work you do on this channel.
Hey wanted to say thanks for making this. I just got a voxelab aquila x2 to work along side my creality, and this video helped me get a newer safer firmware onto the voxelab. I only noticed it at first because octoprint gave me a big warning when it found no protection on it.
Mesh bed leveling is the way to go. People really need to stop with jumping on to auto leveling. They should really learn to manually level / tram the bed. Mesh leveling is all most people really need. 😊
True but this is just the way it is when you’re trying to save some $$$ over a premium printer. What’s interesting is I hear even the “premium” brands have all kinds of issues the community has to fix.
Hey thanks for the video. Edited this comment if you see something different. I was trying to fix something but got it solved. Thanks again for all the videos! Super helpful!
If you do end up with an H32 machine, you can just update to the latest firmware from voxelab. They have fixed the bug in the firmware. Alex is also working on. A firmware solution. So, no worries.
@@3DPrintSOS Sorry one more quick question if you don't mind. I have come across on ebay used and refurbished Ender 3 V2s/Pros for £140, sold as far as I can see by the manufacturer's UK distribution/repair centre. They are used items returned within the 30 day return period, and any faults rectified. They carry the usual warranty a new printer would have. This seems a good deal, what do you think of this versus the Aquila?
Outstanding like always , Fedor ! I ctually like my horizontal screen.well bad luck I guess on y part. Still...I have my machine now 2 months and its working non stop....never had an issue with the temps...might be related to the newer processors .I dont know . Hopefully everybody is safe now!
I got to the same reasoning but I can't get my hands on an original ST32 version board to test it. I think that the current chips availability constraints made Voxelab change to another chip and they didn't do their homework in the rush to get to market and keep production going.
Hey there. I was so excited to see your video. I have a question however. I have the original Aquila so I did exactly what you did with the downloads, putting the first bin into a folder named firmware (all lower case) renaming the DWIN_SET (Voxelab Red) to just DWIN_SET. Formatted the card Fat32 with 4096. put the card in the slot on the scree assembly, plug it in and up comes the original Voxelab menu. I've repeated this three times. Same result. Two folders on the freshly formatted card: firmware and DWIN_Set. Please help!
@@3DPrintSOS Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I figured out the issue finally. The card reader on the screen is very iffy and by pressing and holding the card into place once I turned on the printer it finally updated! So are there any lessons on here for using the mesh leveler? I'm pretty excited about that and I love the vertical screen. Already printed and installed the mount.
Oh awesome! Glad it was simple. I bet by the time i reply you have already figured it out. But head to auto level and let it do it’s thing. Then make sure you go to zoffset and set a proper height. Then make sure you hit save. Once you do that, you’re set.
Hi! Thanks for a great tutorial, I had some problems and finally found an other person on Reddit who had the same: I have a stock Aquila N32, got it 2 weeks ago and only the beta software of Alex flashes. So far so good, but if anyone else has the same problem that the flashing of the printer never finishes, try the Beta, otherwise follow this video.
Thanks for the video, helped me realise there's custom firmware for the X2, but some feedback, you could've cut this video down about 80%.. no need to tell people to right click in order to extract, or to drag from folder to folder, etc. I'm sure 3d print users would know these fundamentals.
i have a problem with my display, after i updated aquila N32 the display icons are all over the screen, i can not seen to solved it, please help me understand :(
That happens when you don’t update the display with the right Dwin files. You have to update the display with the folder named “DWIN_SET”. Essentially this installs the correct graphics onto the display so it can talk to your updated firmware.
No, this typically happens when the thermistor needs to be reseated. Try to loosen in on the hotend. Move it a bit. Then lightly tighten again. Let me know if that works.
Any word as to how/when "H32" Aquila's can benefit from Alex's Firmware option? I have a 1 version older Firmware on my Aquila X2 and wondering if upgrading to latest is recommended/safer/Improvements and worthwhile to do while await (with much anticipation) a Machine and UI FW version that 🪨 Rocks ??
@@3DPrintSOS Thanks. I'm learning these are going to be a love/hate relationship like I have with FPV Kwad flying...the love bit is bigger on average. (so far/ on both) Thanks for being a great source of help for Aquila units/ got me getting things printed / sticking to bed.
I have a question for you. It appears as though my extruder TEMP SETTING as shown on the screen keeps going up. So, when I start the print the set point is 205. I check it an hour later and the setpoint is 230 and actual temp is 230. It hasn't climbed over that yet. I installed the latest firmware from Voxelab...haven't tried Alex's firmware. To me, it seems like it could be a setting in the print file, but I can't find anything?? Can you think of any reason this might be happening? Thanks. Hope you see this. Edit:. I just figured it out. My settings for my temp tower were still active and defaulting to 230. Woops!
I have the same 3D printer I'm trying to download the software you have but I accidentally downloaded cruelty software and the cruelty screen is showing still and it won't go away I'm trying to download a new software but it's not working can you please help me
I recently bought an Aquila X2 and it had 4.0.2 FW preinstalled, however Octoprint still flags a warning that the FW may have the thermal runaway issue. Is Octoprint incorrect or am I still at risk? Thanks!
I do have a question... I actually liked my display being horizonal, and actually had moved it to the front of the machine so it does directly under the tensioner knob... Is there any way to keep the horizontal format?
@@3DPrintSOS Well, that's disappointing, but I do believe I shall be able to live with it. I did print a nice screen cover and knob in transparent red PLA to match the rail covers I printed for it. I also went so far as to print Ender 3 v2 knobs for the X and Y axis, and then printed the bigger nurled knob mod. 😅
Hello there. I dont know really how can I recognise my actual model of Aquila but really I dont want to do any wrong step. So the Voxelab Aquila uses the G32? Or should I search somewhere to find it under the printer? Thanks in advance...
Hey! So when I am printing, I have to pause a print sometimes and when I come back sometimes it can be an hour or two I click resume and it ends up pushing the print and print bed off with it, is there a way to have it return to the correct z axis or does it need updated?
Hey Jasa. Pausing is meant to be for a very brief period of time. If you pause for over 30 seconds, your printer will loose z height and heat. The chances of you finishing a print are almost zero at that point. It’s definitely meant for quick fixes or as a last ditch effort. Not really something an FDM printer can do.
So…. I used a 32gb instead (extremely stupid I know), I think it tried install the firmware on the display and now it won’t display or update properly. I tried repeating the process with an 8gb card but it’s still stuck. Any advice?
My screen is still messed up when after it goes to red or orange and I shut down the printer and take out my sd card and power it back up does it mean the firmware is still messed up or is my lcd screen that needs replace I don’t know what is going on at this point please help
My friend, thank you very much but I have an Aquila S3 and believe me I have already tried all the n32s and none of them make me able to hit the home plate in Z, what am I doing? I'm going to cry.
anyone else having problem with display installation? i follow all steps, but my display ends up messed up and cant read any thing off of it. it moves between icons, and it seems to have two layers of english and Chinese text over each other and its unreadable and unrecognizable.
This happens when the DWIN files failed to install. Make sure you are using an 8GB SD card and double make sure you set the byte size to 4096 or it wont work. So you are seeing basically seeing new firmware with no graphics files.
Hello, tell me, please, if you know, it is required to increase the maximum temperature of the nozzle (with native firmware it is 260). Maybe there are some suitable third-party firmware where the upper temperature limit is higher?
You can recompile any marlin firmware and change the limit to whatever your machine can handle. Tons of tools and videos on how to do it. I think there is even an online wizard now. ;)
I just got the X2 with N32 chip and its preinstalled to 4.0.2. What are the benefits of Alex's over Voxelab's? Does Alex's firmware make the printer print better? If so, how? I mainly just print parts that I design, which would otherwise not exist. So my prints dont have to "look" pretty. I would welcome that, although its not necessary. Im just curious if its worth "upgrading" the firmware.
After this operation i got problem with my octopi. Octoprint can't connect to the printer. my solution to this is to disconnect the USB cabel between my Pi and printer .start up the printer, then reconnect the USB and only then its possible to connect printer to Pi. Strange! Anny sollution to this ?
Are CR touch and BL touch interchangeable as far as Alex's firmware is concerned? Works great on my first aquila with BL touch, but I installed CR on my second as it was a little cheaper. Both genuine creality units.
I’m not understanding what I’m doing wrong. I did exactly as you say and all works except the last step. I renamed the DWIN_SET and install in screen but nothing happens. Any thoughts?
When I ordered my Aquila I found it on Amazon for 160. Wife said get it and I did. But after I did I went to look on RUclips for reviews and I found your channel right away! And I watched it before I did my first print and got my bed set and level! And I printed the tool box! It came out great! And now I am doing the firmware update and your incautions is making this process a breeze. I just want to know I have the same printer that you have in the video! How did you get the lights in the print head?? I want that!! LOL Great Job!!!
stupid question, but if I change the board to say a ender 3 v2, can I use the creality firmware on the voxleab screen or use Alex's firmware on the voxelab screen?
Yep, you'll use all Creality based firmware. Alex's is optimized for the Aquila, but you could switch to the version for the Ender called Jyers. OR just use Creality firmware. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS awesome, thanks so much for an actual reply, my 1st 3d printer aquila x2 got on sale yesterday for around $150 and saw your video as its the H32 model. Thank you again!!
Is the current firmware from voxelab ok? I just build my aquila last night and updated the firmware. My first benchy print was almost perfect. But I still worry about the firmware
I have an H32 (new motherboard sent from China). Which file set do I download? I tried the N32 and that just pissed off the printer. I got it back to Factory settings. And... how do you know if it's an H, N or G without taking the bottom off and looking at the chip, or is that the only way?
Sadly the H machines do not have support yet. The firmware is compiled completely differently. Alex is currently working on it. So, I’m hoping shortly support will be there.
I'm right there with you. Bummed. I hope we get a H32 version as well. Found this from Alex on reddit posted on aug. 21st. It's not great news: "Sorry, I don’t have an ETA yet. The H32 chip is made by Huada Semiconductor. Huada only provides drivers for a software called ARM Keil which Voxelab uses to compile their official firmware. Unfortunately Keil, unlike PlatformIO, is an enterprise paid software. And even if I could afford it, my code is made for a gcc compiler, not a pure ARM one. Translating the code would take a while. I’m doing some research to see if I can port the drivers to PlatformIO but I cannot say for sure if it could work."
Yep, that seems to be the case. :/. The software very expensive. Looks like voxelab had to switch chips around due to demand and shortages. Hopefully someone with more knowledge comes around and helps the community out
I hope you can possibly help me figure this out. I have Alex's firmware on my Aquila and for some reason all of the LED bulbs in my home flicker anytime my printer is heating up and staying at the set temp. It does not do this on the stock firmware and I have done a PID tuning for both the bed and hotend. Any ideas?
@@3DPrintSOS I found the issue, my printer is interfering with my Dimmable Led bulbs but I discover it doesn’t interfere with non dimmable bulbs! Everything is fixed 😁
@@3DPrintSOS so far my best guess is just the fact that my house is from the 60s with some older wiring, I’m not even sure most of the wall plugs are actually grounded but are all 3 prong outlets
Great videos. Just got an Aquila for the family and working through the growing pains of owning a 3d printer. Couple of general questions for the printer: 1) the middle of the bed seems to be a little bit lower than the 4 corners as I go through the leveling process. Would you recommend adding aluminum foil (as some suggest) to remedy the issue, and have you discussed this in any of your videos? 2) I'll probably upgrade the firmware after my 'Benchy' finishes printing but I was wondering if there wasn't something I should be doing to have print time estimates more accurate in Cura for my Aquila. Thanks and I look forward to your upcoming videos!
Hi I tried This And it didn't Work it just is like a fusion of the old and new one. I tried reflashing the old one and then flash alex's but when i put the sd card into the printer nothing happens it just boots like normal and when i put the sd card into the LCD the screen is blue only for a second then is immediatly red and i cant flash any of the firmwares and it is stuck with a mix.
@@3DPrintSOS So it turns out max can’t format to 4096 kilobytes so I had to use a different computer but it works now thank you for helping and I really like you videos keep up the good work
Isnt alex newest firm compatible with both boards now ? I installed mine eithout knowing the cpu revision and its working fine i red it somewhere the newer versions is compatible with both boards cpus
1st of all, thaks! i saw the vid, yesterday and was actuly quiet worried. 2nd Is there a way to turn the display sideways again? I realy don'0t like the vertival layout
Currently there is not. Alex's firmware is a fork of Jyer's FW for the Ender 3v2 which has a vertical display hence the need to flip the Aquila's display.
That’s correct, not yet. It sounded like one may be in the works but it’s quite involved. And technically, even voxelab went back to vertical with the x2
@@3DPrintSOS I have a feeling we might not ever see a horizontal version unless someone else picks up the ball and forks one as it's all based on Jyers Ender 3v2 firmware anyway. Lot of work for sure. It will require practically a complete rewrite of the display firmware. However there is a decent chance that at some point we might see a touch screen version supporting Creality's E3v2 touch screen upgrade since it's pin compatible with the Aquila main board. The building blocks are already in place as Jyers said his version up until a few rev's ago was using the protocol designed for touch screens but then switched to the more appropriate version.
Thank u my man worked great. Question..after the firmware and screen are updated and the folders are removed from the SD card...do you put ALL the files that you copied? From the SD card originally back in to the sd?? Just making sure there are no files that cannot be in the SD once turned on. Thanks again!
Huh, I just flashed to Alex's default probe a few days ago without knowing about the fire hazard. Homing and leveling the printer is much easier this time with Alex's firmware. One question, is there any way to increase the hotend temperature beyond 260 without changing the thermistor? I noticed some GF Nylon filaments require nozzle temperatures within 260-300C.
You could if you recompile the firmware yourself. I’ve done it a handful of times before and there are actually plenty of resources it there that will talk you through a basic Marlin compile. You’d just have to use the source code provided and you’d be set. You can just increase the temps. However, be aware that it’s capped there for a reason. If you have the hardware to back up the temp, go for it, otherwise try to stick to 260.
Here I am again! The h32 sources file for bl touch is not the same as the one you used. Can you tell me which file or files I need to use please. I am going to try to set up the leveler again tomorrow. I have done the update for the printer but don't know what to put into the controller. Thank you my guru!
So I did this and everything works as it should. I copied the original files that were on the SD Card. Folders such as Model, Software, User Manual. Is there anything I don’t need to have on there now that there is a new firmware installed? I don’t know if that original software folder will change the new firmware
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! OK, newbie here... I have a new to me Aquila with the G32 chip. I went to Voxelab and down loaded the update for 1.2.4. used winzip to unzip the files. I formated the sdcard per Fedor's video and moved the unziped .bin file to a new folder named firmware. I inserted the sd card to the printer and turned it on. it went to the screen in the picture and just sits there. I tried taking the file from the folder and just the file on the card and the same thing happens. When i remove the card and try to turn on the printer it just sits there and does nothing. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was trying to use a 16gb card...never could get it work. Got a 8gb card formatted it to 4096, created folder named "firmware", dropped the .bin file in the folder then inserted the card and turned it on.... it updated and gave me the green check mark. Then I did the screen update which worked like a charm. The key for me was using a 8gb card! I am probably going to install the Alex firmware in the very near future.

Thanks for the information/help/howto in this video. I just bought the X2 and now I have that firmware upate installed. Thank you for all that you do.
Awesome and sure thing. Glad I could help.
Yes, that is a crucial step. Otherwise the printer doesn’t know what to do. I made sure to mention that in the vid. :)
Glad it didn’t cause further damage.
Man, this was seriously an extremely helpful video!
Thank you very much for the video. Was at first struggling but on windows 11 it changed the DWIN_SET to a shortcut, so i changed that and it worked great thank you
Glad it helped. Yeah the shortcuts thing is annoying!
Happy to see you guys have a safe printer now, Jyers FW is legendary, so many features the vendor couldn't/wouldn't be bothered to include on the printer.
Really opens it up. Gotta love it.
Installed and printed the new LCD bracket and firmware, 1000% nicer then the original thank you very much and to Alex that wrote the firmware. nicest upgrade to date.
Yes, it’s so good.
I love how they basically made the interface screen an Ender 3 v2 format. Now I might actually get one of these as a second printer.
Yes.it’s a game changer. Glad you’re liking it.
That was a super useful tutorial. Well done and thank you. Greetings from Arizona.
Glad it was helpful. :)
Dude. After Tom’s video I’m stoked you made this. Nice work.
Toms vid is an eye opener to the industry that people pay attention. In the long run, it’ll help the consumers out big time.
What a kind service you have offered these owners. Good job
You catch more bees with honey than vinegar. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS unless you require an Epi-Pen!
Haha true. Then you gotta make vinaigrette!
ok, I have the x2 (n32) Aquila. what I don't know is which 3x3, 4x4, 5x5...I don't even know what that references...? I've done some fan upgrades and tube. I am having problems with the steel nozzle not performing well...?
thanks way in advance for help.
The 3x3 is referring to the grid the mesh will use. In my opinion, 9 points is good enough for such a small bed. That’s why I went with it. You can do more if you’d like.
Just did this firmware update today and man you made it easy to follow ! I thank you again sir ! I've done all the modifications to my X2 so far by following your videos ! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙌🏽
Awesome. Glad I’ve helped.
What firmware i need to download for my aquila X2?
@@KSa-ld7cp there should be a sticker in the top off your printer, under the build plate that says either N32 or H32, you will need the corresponding firmware. Then just follow the same instructions in the video.
@@dirtymikendaboys i have the n32 version and downloaded n32. But my machine just power on normally. I did every step on the video. :/
Honestly I have never had my machine run this smooth.
Great Tutorial!!! I will say this, after flashing firmware multiple times, you do not have to remove the firmware folder. When it installs the firmware, it deletes the .bin file from inside the folder. I just keep dumping a new firmware into the folder when needed.
Oh nice! I was trying to be cautious, but very good to know.
@@3DPrintSOS I totally understand. I was running Alex's firmware when I had a hot end issue and went back to stock and back to Alex and back to stock making sure it wasn't a firmware or board issue.(turned out to be a faulty thremocouple and a bad heat break)
Tried this in 2024. It worked before, but now when I insert the sd card into the printer to install the firmware, it does nothing. Any ideas?
Bryan’s RUclips video on manual mesh bed levelling using JyersUI which looks the same as The Alex firmware, takes you through the steps of Manual bed levelling on a Ender 3V2. I tried it out on the Aquila and is has worked perfectly, I would like to give a big thank you to all you guys for your great tutorials on 3D printing.
Nice, good to know. Thanks! 🍻
I just think it was really unfair of Tom to say it was an issue with the Aquila and for him not to mention that the Ender 3's had similar and worse issues. I had two Ender 3's that had no thermal runaway from stock!
Fantastic video as always buddy. Keep it up. ❤️
Maybe. I’m just trying to focus on the fact that his video is very popular so I know for sure it will be good for us consumers in the long run.
@@3DPrintSOS Totally agree I just wish he made more of a point that Voxelab was aware of the issue and working on fixing it future updates. ❤️
But hey, that’s why I made this one. :)
@@3DPrintSOS You are the man when it comes to the Aquila. 😊

Appreciate the idea. I’ll add it to the list!
Thank you for this. Printer is arriving tomorrow and this will be the first thing I'll do.
Smart move!
@@3DPrintSOS Can you do a Bltouch or 3Dtouch upgrade on one of the Aquilas? Pretty please :)
I know I’ve been promising this one for a Loooong time. But at some point soon I’ll get to it. Working toward it. :)
Printer came early, assembled it and oh boy is this machine amazing! So happy about my purchase. Thank you for the wonderful work you do on this channel.
Nice! That’s the best feeling.
Hey wanted to say thanks for making this. I just got a voxelab aquila x2 to work along side my creality, and this video helped me get a newer safer firmware onto the voxelab. I only noticed it at first because octoprint gave me a big warning when it found no protection on it.
question, did you have to update the firmware on the screen for the X2 as well?
@@cbfierce yes, it takes a few screws to pop the screen off, and then remove the back panel. There's a microsd card slot on the board.
thank you for the info!

Always.
Thanks Fedor for getting this out so quickly.
Mesh bed leveling is the way to go.
People really need to stop with jumping on to auto leveling.
They should really learn to manually level / tram the bed.
Mesh leveling is all most people really need. 😊
Mesh is the best!
Having the jyers interface on the Aquila is awesome! The community, as always, fixing the problems that the vendors pass onto us 😅
True but this is just the way it is when you’re trying to save some $$$ over a premium printer. What’s interesting is I hear even the “premium” brands have all kinds of issues the community has to fix.
@@3DPrintSOS then I gues "This is the way" LOL
For anyone having issues with installing the display firmware, just format your drive to fat32 with 4k allocations. That will instantly solve it.
I format my sd card and it won’t give me the option to do 4k. How do I fix that?
Are you on a Windows machine? Not possible on a Mac sadly.
@@3DPrintSOS i found out what was wrong. I used a 16gb card and it worked, i was using a 32. thank you

Hey thanks for the video. Edited this comment if you see something different. I was trying to fix something but got it solved. Thanks again for all the videos! Super helpful!
I’ve been printing all night and all day I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS SUCH A FIRE RISK 😱
Me too. For 8 months. Not all machines are affected. But hey, now that we all know, the machine is only going to be better. :)
Took me a couple of tries, but I finally did it!
Oh good... I loved your review of the Aquila, and was about to press the button when I saw Thomas' rant...
So now I can proceed!
If you do end up with an H32 machine, you can just update to the latest firmware from voxelab. They have fixed the bug in the firmware. Alex is also working on. A firmware solution. So, no worries.
@@3DPrintSOS Great, thanks. Love the channel, new sub. Totall new to 3D printing too, and can't believe how affordable these printers have become...
Isn’t it amazing. Gotta love it.
If you are willing to troubleshoot them, that’s a great deal. :)
Outstanding like always , Fedor ! I ctually like my horizontal screen.well bad luck I guess on y part. Still...I have my machine now 2 months and its working non stop....never had an issue with the temps...might be related to the newer processors .I dont know . Hopefully everybody is safe now!
I’ve been using mine for 8 months with no issues. But for the piece of mind...
Hmm. You’re doing the printer first, then the screen? Is the card you are using a 8gb card?
Funny thing I just did this last night and was hoping you had video of it XD
Thanks for great video. Would love to see a bl-touch video for aquila
Ty sir i am glad that you guys and the 3d community look out for all of us and each other🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👋👋👋👋👋✌✌✌✌✌💙💙💙
It’s a really cool community. Hop into my discord server, you’d love it.
I put the firmware in and it starts beeping saying the kill error MAXTEMP needs restart? Is it because it is a voxelab v2
Alex has no time update at the moment unfortunately. It’s a difficult task. I would grab the latest from voxelab for sure.

Thanks for being a great source of help for Aquila units/ got me getting things printed / sticking to bed.
I have the original X1 brand new that someone had resting in a closet from christmas years ago... just put it together... should I be worried?
Thanks!
I think Octoprint will always say that for some firmware. Since it’s modified from the original build
Could you make a mesh leveling video? Perhaps a tour of the new settings of the firmware. Great videos! Thanks
Yes, I’ll have to work on that.
Cool! Im doing the update today im waiting on a bl touch since my bed is a bit warped.
I do have a question... I actually liked my display being horizonal, and actually had moved it to the front of the machine so it does directly under the tensioner knob... Is there any way to keep the horizontal format?
Unfortunately no. Unless they rewrite all the graphics and how they are pulled, there’s no way to rotate the display. :/

You should try using matterhackers 3d printer filament. It is infact designed and made in the United States. Great Video!
I haven’t had the pleasure yet. But I’d love to. Matterhackers and O-Basf are both on my list
It could be the sd card. Is it formatted with 4096bytes? Are you using the stock card?
My friend, thank you very much but I have an Aquila S3 and believe me I have already tried all the n32s and none of them make me able to hit the home plate in Z, what am I doing? I'm going to cry.
I never had the S3 but I assume it’s a combo of you limit switch on the z axis being too high and your springs on the bed being too compressed.
anyone else having problem with display installation? i follow all steps, but my display ends up messed up and cant read any thing off of it. it moves between icons, and it seems to have two layers of english and Chinese text over each other and its unreadable and unrecognizable.
I think there is even an online wizard now. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS Thank you!
It gives you tons of features and the ability to calibrate your machine. Which you just can’t do on the stock firmware. Also mesh bed leveling. ;)
Do you know with the g32 motherboard which voxelab firmware has fixed the issue?
The g32 never had this issue luckily. Still, I’d suggest going with the most up to date one anyway.
After this operation i got problem with my octopi. Octoprint can't connect to the printer. my solution to this is
to disconnect the USB cabel between my Pi and printer .start up the printer, then reconnect the USB and only
then its possible to connect printer to Pi. Strange! Anny sollution to this ?
Hmm not sure. Hopefully someone can pitch in here. I would make a post on the voxelab Reddit. Alex is active there.
Are CR touch and BL touch interchangeable as far as Alex's firmware is concerned? Works great on my first aquila with BL touch, but I installed CR on my second as it was a little cheaper. Both genuine creality units.
Yep, should be the same. Minus the mounting and the physical appearance
I’m not understanding what I’m doing wrong. I did exactly as you say and all works except the last step. I renamed the DWIN_SET and install in screen but nothing happens. Any thoughts?
Are you using the stock card or a 8gb card? Have you set the byte allocation to 4096?
@@3DPrintSOS not an 8gb but I set to 4096 using a 32 gb card. Don't have the stock card but will try an 8gb.

Yep. All of the latest firmwares across their machines have the runaway glitched fixed. :)
i dont see the bin file showing up after the ijnstructions. just the marlin file and the dwin set show up did i miss a step?
Any ideas?
Woah. That’s not something you hear every day. I’ve never heard of that before. :/
@@3DPrintSOS I found the issue, my printer is interfering with my Dimmable Led bulbs but I discover it doesn’t interfere with non dimmable bulbs! Everything is fixed 😁

1) nah, I would use 4 clips on the bed
And realign and
2) the firmware should be great and give you lots ofmoptionsn
Hi I tried This And it didn't Work it just is like a fusion of the old and new one. I tried reflashing the old one and then flash alex's but when i put the sd card into the printer nothing happens it just boots like normal and when i put the sd card into the LCD the screen is blue only for a second then is immediatly red and i cant flash any of the firmwares and it is stuck with a mix.
It sounds like there is either a naming issue or you aren’t using a .bin. Did you use winrar to unzip the firmware?
@@3DPrintSOS So it turns out max can’t format to 4096 kilobytes so I had to use a different computer but it works now thank you for helping and I really like you videos keep up the good work
Isnt alex newest firm compatible with both boards now ? I installed mine eithout knowing the cpu revision and its working fine i red it somewhere the newer versions is compatible with both boards cpus
Not sure but if that’s true, he probably wouldn’t have put the specific names in the bin files. But like I mentioned, I’m not sure. Honestly.
Hello so when i was installing the firmware and i had put the sd card into the loader now its stuck on the loading screen how could i fix this?l
@@richm658 oh I hope so. I would do it myself but don't know anything about it :/

Sure, it’s these: amzn.to/2XHst53
Bonsoir,
J'ai fait exactement pareil mais l'écrans ne veux ce flasher avez vous une solution ?
Thank u my man worked great. Question..after the firmware and screen are updated and the folders are removed from the SD card...do you put ALL the files that you copied? From the SD card originally back in to the sd?? Just making sure there are no files that cannot be in the SD once turned on. Thanks again!
Yep, everything you had on there before can go back.
Is the h32 still a fire hazard? Or has one of the later updates fix the issue? Have an x2, which has no Alex h32 option at the time of writing.
Nope, the latest firmware has resolved these issues.
@@3DPrintSOS Awesome thanks 😎
Here I am again! The h32 sources file for bl touch is not the same as the one you used. Can you tell me which file or files I need to use please. I am going to try to set up the leveler again tomorrow. I have done the update for the printer but don't know what to put into the controller. Thank you my guru!
So I did this and everything works as it should. I copied the original files that were on the SD Card. Folders such as Model, Software, User Manual. Is there anything I don’t need to have on there now that there is a new firmware installed? I don’t know if that original software folder will change the new firmware
Technically you do t need anything at all. You can always get oem firmware from their site
Are you sure you have a g32 chip? Worth checking the chip itself. Which firmware are you trying to install?
@@3DPrintSOS Yes the printer has no sticker indicating a different chip.
I am trying to upgrade from 1.2.1 to 1.2.4 .
How is the G32 chip marked?
It’s marked on the cpu of the motherboard with either an ST or GD. Both are considered a G32 chip.
Nice! I thought the 16gb had to be set to 8192 bytes and it would be ok. Guess I was wrong. My bad. Glad you got it though.
the sticker on my aquila x2 says H32, what version do i get? N or G? or neither of them?
If you have the h32 you have to stick to stock firmware for now. Third party is being developed. Keep an eye out for my next video though. ;)
@@3DPrintSOS i see. Thanks for the quick reply, ill be keeping an eye out for your videos :)
What would you do if when you turn on the printer, the screen never changes, stays on the voxlab boot screen
How do I download the display firmware for the H32 chip? I have no idea what I'm doing.
hi, thanks for the really cool videos, really helpful. i am getting one of these printers soon. will be my first. will i have to do the firmware or have they sorted the problem. ??. thanks again
