I loved how you used the hedge trimmer to take care of that tall grass. It worked like a sickle mower that farmers use along ditches here in the US. Our neighbor came in and cleaned up 2 acres of pasture; watching that 6'tall Canadian thistle drop like dominoes was so satisfying! Once he had done that, we were able to maintain it with our bushhog.
As for people on the internet giving you grief, tell 'em to kick rocks. It's your business, not theirs; therefore it's your risk. I know the neighbors are probably thrilled with the cleaning up the nature strip, but they'd be delighted if you conquered the yard. So many snake and other pests hanging around in there.
    As always, good job Tim!

I agree with your post! The people who give others like Tim crap for cleaning it up are lazy jerks! I have gone out at 5am in the morning to a busy intersection that is an an entrance to my neighborhood and picked up trash and pulled up weeds jetting between the cracks in the sidewalks. I have reported to either the city or county many times of overgrown vegetation on non-residential property as well as to my neighborhood code enforcement about neighbors overgrown vegetation, cars that have been sitting for months on the street, etc. I am tired of people who seems to be unaware of the mess that they live around it and yes, it attracts low life and crime and it's ugly!! right on Tim The Lawnmower Man!! When you showed the "open for inspection" sign I wondered why you didn't contact the real estate firm to find out what was going on. Maybe they would have employed you to clean up the yard, but then I thought maybe the house is already sold and it's going to be demolished and the new owners don't care about the overgrown yard. Great job on the nature strip though, I bet the walkers going past are very happy to not have to dodge all the high grass.

For what it is worth, I think you did a fantastic work on this sidewalk. It somehow makes even the overgrown house look better. I don't see what harm it does to keep the grass cut back on abandoned houses. You aren't hurting anything and it does discourage break ins and vandalism plus it keeps the mice, snakes, spiders from overrunning the place and getting into the neighbors yards. All of which makes it a safer place for the people who live around it and their children. I don't know why anyone would report you to the police for basically trespassing if all you are doing is cleaning up the grass???? Any how, I think you did an awesome job ;) Keep up the good work and congrates on the TV thing lol

  • @arniewingco3561

I think the end result on both halves/methods looked great, so for me, the question becomes more about efficiency. I thought the mower did a quicker job of slashing than the hedge trimmer. Was there any difference in ease or time to pick up the slashed grass vs. the mown grass?
As to the mowing without permission issue, I think you're doing everyone a service by keeping the lawns under control, for all of the reasons that others here have already mentioned. In my area (Knox Melbourne), we are required by the council to maintain the nature strip and keep the footpath clear of trees, hedges and grass. Residents can also be instructed by the council to clean up their yards. If the 'mowing without permission' becomes a bigger issue, can you liaise with the council to get their permission, and then tidy some of those yards?
Love your work and videos, keep it up 💪👏

Tim, you cutting vacant house lawns helps the neighborhood. It’s not a bad thing! You may not be helping anyone in the house, but the neighbors are certainly being helped with their property value! I say, do the yard.

I love how you do an exacting job on the edges! Ok, you gripers, we have a process here; city gets a complaint, sends out and posts a citation, fail to clean up the city bids it out, you don’t pay, they lien on the property, if costs over percentage of value, they auction the property! I guess that’s what you want🤦🏻‍♀️ why do you watch these videos then?? Go away gripers! We enjoy the cleanups Tim does!👍🏻💚

Slashing gives you a chance to find the hidden rubbish / bricks / stumps before it gets shredded by the mower (or damages the mower)
Doesn't seem like the Ego tool with the brushcutter blade is good as an edger... must have been jumping out of the groove too often...
Broke you're own rule, didn't you? - entering the property... The hedger might be an ally in such situations... being able to get under the fence panels a foot or more to help clear the grass from the inside face of the fence - if there is enough of a gap, of course...

Hey Tim, another job well done. Good experiment with the hedger. The down sides I can see are the wear rate on the hedger blade due to being close to the abrasive effects of the soil and the likelihood of the hedger blade running into hard rubbish or a mesh fence. Otherwise, a good try mate, don’t worry about the keyboard no it alls. Cheers.

Tim - I've never commented on your videos but really enjoy them. I have often wondered why you didn't cut the really long grass first with a hedge-trimmer type device and rake it away while it is in long pieces, so this video was great for me to watch! I had hoped this might be a new tool you would use in the future, but at the 8:55 mark you seemed to have jumped over the fence (which I did not expect based on your opening comments!) and reverted to using the string trimmer to cut the really long grass, and then you went back to the nature strip and did more of that with the string trimmer, so maybe you already decided not to use the cutter bar any longer? I guess I'll have to keep watching your videos to see if you use it again.

I think there are definitely more pros than cons in regards to vacant property clean ups.
I bet the neighbour’s have voiced their concerns. It looks like it’s possible public housing, so no doubt the concerns have fallen on deaf ears.

I think that was a good idea to slash when grass is so long, less stress on your mower too! Having said that your utility mower went through the second section like a knife through hard butter! To the people who say you shouldn’t enter abandoned properties, I think it is much better if they are cleaned up rather than harbouring snakes, mice and rats! Anyway, great job as per always. 🤗🇦🇺

Unfortunately he could be accused of trespass if he enters the property without permission, and if something is damaged or stolen he could be accused of that if someone has seen him there.
