Your performance should be pretty similar. Maybe even a bit better.
We don't use very expensive SSD.
In this video I believe we used 2 western digital Green SATA SSD drives. one 120gb WD green for the operating system and a 240gb WD green SSD for some of the games.
We also did use a magnetic 1tb hard drive for some games as well.
For the RAM we used 8gig of ram.
      A 2x4g kit of Kingston DDR3 1333 Ram (KVR1333D3N9K2/8G).

I have three faster systems but I literally built up a system using a Q6600 in a Gigabyte board and an MSI 660 OC just yesterday. I actually have another Q6600 but it's in a fairly crap Gateway OEM board and not very overclock-able. The Gigabyte is perfectly stable at 3.2 GHz. Slightly overclocking the 660 to +75 and +200 saw a score of 1,213 on the Heaven benchmark. Not too shabby for a 14-year old processor and an 9-year old GPU.

Though if you are looking for something cheaper a GTX 650 and gtx 550 ti would probably be fine as well.
GTX 660 can be found for cheap, when I made this video I think I purchased this for about $20 - $30 Australian dollars. Since then the prices have gone up a bit, but they still can be found for cheap.

12:30 You might be right that there is some overclock or tweak. I think though that there comes a point where the only way to strip more performance out of that CPU is to instead use a very similar CPU such as the server (dual CPU) chips akin to it. While that might be seen as "a cheat or cop-out" I think it is close enough considering that many a q6600 were more varied from each other than that anyway _(such as being able or not to do the BSEL tape Mod)._
I think the x5460 is fairly close, so if you had two of the x5460 cpu chips in a server mboard (to give 8cores), you might find some games (be it linux or mswindows, depending on support) run ok. Really though what such a test would show is how well the q6600 would have done had there been a way to increase its cores, and so one might make an educated guess as to how many of the 8cores would be needed _(such as 6 cores akin to a theoretical hexacore)._
I think such "academic" tests are ok and are not cheating and it is because these chips are often seens as business-class anyway, sort of like the tricore and quadcore AM3 chips that lacked the level3 cache but still had decent FPU performance. It is a sort of cheekily "gaming at work" subculture. Any PC in a storm and all that.

    • @OFFbitTech
      @OFFbitTech  3 года назад +1

The only thing that hurts the q6600 vs the late core 2 CPUs, q9xxx series / Xeon e54xx and X54xx CPU's is the node size. There really is kind of free performance in pulling everything closer together. Going from 65nm to 45nm node will make a difference in performance in both power consumption and compute power. Intel's Tick Tock idea right there.
But you are right it would be interesting to see how a server / workstation setup with dual quad CPU's would perform with games. Having the extra 8 cores ticks that box of games that use 6 cores plus. I would like to see what pubg would run like with bigger draw distances. We know that pubg does perform better with more than 4 cores.
We do have a system sitting here soon ready for such a test. We are hoping to make a video on that in the near future.
Very interesting how different architectures from AMD and intel react in the wild.
Both have there pro's and cons. But we think intel from this era intel had the better design.
But they defiantly trade blows with each other on who's on top in each era and both tackle problems from a different angle these days.
      Thanks for watching.

@@OFFbitTech Vulkan (especially in linux) springs to mind, but OpenGL too is worthwhile (6core games like you say). Regarding directx (mswindows), those q6600 (similar to a phenom, even just a humble quad 945) are nice to pair with two crossfire r5-230 cards (or hd6450) especially if in 2GB variants _(but 1GB cards can be ok in some games, but not so much the 512MB cards)._ Obviously, not the same league as the nvidia650 but still surprising FPS results when overclocked.

      Hi,
We are little confused with your question.
I think you would like to know which psu we are using.
The PSU we are using is Antec Neo He500.
      It's a 500w supply.
It does sound like the power supply is overloading. The card + system maybe needs more than 450w though nvidia specs say recommended 450w to 500w PSU. Your 450w PSU might just not have enough with your setup or the PSU cant provide it's specified power which happens as well. Usually if the PSU is damaged or getting old.
I think the 450w PSU just cant produce enough power for your system unfortunately.
      Hope that helps.
