- I finished the repairs on the sheep shaw, get the minerals refilled, and deploy it out to the sheep and cows on pasture. They swarmed the shaw and chowed-down on the minerals! They apparently really needed them.

I legit got into homesteading on 1/4 acre because you said “just ask for forgiveness and get the chickens anyway” lol. That was 5 years ago. On 30 acres now growing pigs turkeys meat birds and egg layers with a massive garden.
I enjoy the channel, but I do miss Arun assisting. Wishing him the best!
I miss Arun too, he was a big help
@@sheilamesick96 Where did Arun go?

@@vjmmiculek Thank you! Is he just visiting or did they move there?
@@susanc536 last I heard he has a visa that expires then has to go back for awhile. I think that's how it went...lol
I raised rabbits as a little girl, we just left them together a 3-4 days then knew she was close to delivery when she started pulling hair under her chin and making a nest with hair and hay.
I love hearing Henry voice his opinion or tell his story while you’re talking!!😊
Let me start by saying I am a loyal follower. Love your channel. But PLEASE.... learn how to properly handle a rabbit. They also need a shelter... something to get safely out of the weather (wood box). Pretty please. Thank you ❤
Justin, watch that baby's head. Nearly klonked his noggin when you bent over looking for shoes.
Rather than risk a stiff fine from a city, go the route with quail. They give eggs and are good for meat. They are really quiet, compared to chickens. You could probably have a breeding program, too. Male quail aren’t noisy like roosters.
Justin when you tell Teddy to sit do not pet him or give him any attention at all till he is just sitting. them you give him some loving. you will teach Teddy to sit faster doing that. If you keep petting him as you say sit he things he should be jumping up on you & the kids not staying in 1 place you want him to do by sitting. When he is just sitting them you give him love. Good luck.
We were always told to turn out back to the dog. When people came in the door they had to also. Till the dog sat. Then could have attention. Had a bad jump up on you dog. Bad habit
Justin, you will love the rabbit meat! Get invested!
Dad, let’s build a boot cubby and implement some rules about putting boots in the cubby at the end of each day. To much time being spent each morning looking for boots.
Happy Birthday, Josiah. Dad, have you shown Lily a video of rabbits breeding and what "falling off" looks like? You've already said that you are fine with her failing. Give them all the tools and information they need to succeed, even if rabbits are not your thing.
Was it just me or had anyone cringed a few times thinking the baby was close enough to hit his head. I was but thank goodness he did not but I was afraid for a sec. I just love how your kids all get involved though and you taking the little one. You guys are great parents raising them in the best environment ever
I thought the same about farmer Henry hitting his head. 😬
I have often cringed. So far, so good but I'd be more careful.
For quite a while I have thought that and I also think the jerkiness has been a little much for him at times too…. Yikes. Tough little bugger…
This is how it is on the farm.mr brown was on his back years ago and look at him now
Teddy is so cute wen u come home like he gets so excited like u were gone for weeks not just a few hours
Yet another sponsored video which is not labelled as such.
Nice having the family together at work, bring to work kids day....everyday is absolutely precious!!! What a privilege you guys have! Cherish it! God bless! Hugs🤗💜🤗
🤣👍🏼 Listen folks, I live in farm country in a community on 1/3 ace!
I have a lattice covered patio of 10x20’.
I put a chicken coop in there that holds 6.
As far as I’m concerned their quieter than most exotic birds!
I give them everything they could want but freedom🤣
I get eggs all yr long even when molting.
I’ve been told once I can’t have them long ago! Most of my neighbors buy what I can’t eat. Lately I’ve been working on self reliance and canning or drying and powdering some!😃
I come from original old world farmers an don’t tend to follow rules🤣
My life, my world, my law!🤣👍🏼
I love hearing Henry going and talking! So darling!!♥️
Henry needs a hat too!
Henry looks so dang cute on your back looking around!
It would be good to put nesting boxes in the does cage now as it is a short gestation period and some don't pull their hair (sign of imminent labour) until hours before labour and can be hard to tell they are pregnant.
Just be patient with the rabbits. Since you don't see the mount, you can mate every day. You will be know if the does received the buck if she rejects him by getting mad. Some people don't like the pens. It would be nice to have a tractor & run but we raised all ours with pens. Rabbits are new to you. Be patient. They will mate when they are ready. If you change them to a colony, you wont have to put them together. That will take time to build.
Breeding rabbits in the fall is difficult, they don’t always like to breed because they biologically like to breed in late winter to early spring and summer
You all are so dear. Thanks all the time for the shares. Baby Henry, love his input too.
We, also, have a "tree hierarchy." Good lumber trees are at the top, followed by fruit or nut trees, then graftable wild fruit trees, and so on.
Those poor rabbits deserve better . Factory farm housing and poorly handled. You were trained poorly. Lilly is never going to learn how to look after them properly without outside help as you Justin haven't a clue. They deserve a tractor and the same care that your other animals get. I feel sorry for lilly she needs a step so she can reach into them. I have 5 year old picking up these docile breed rabbits. You need to handle them more as your fear is being passed on to the children.
I'm so disappointed in the rabbit situation. :(
Yup!
So true👍
Agreed
I agree
You shouldn't tell your daughter that you don't care and that that project isn't important to you. I'm sure you're not aware that saying that could hurt her.
Could also greatly impare her willingness to assist with Justin's projects.
This damage to her core being can be a struggle to resolve for the remainder of her years.
Yeah that was RUDE !!
Also him saying he's looking for her to fail in this project. Sad, Lily really looked hurt.
@@sofiabryan5074 I thought so too.
Henry was watching those chickens. He is just a doll.
Really inspiring and lovely. Wonderful job. Keep it up. Cheers!
Thanks for keeping it real Justin - this is farm life and true parenting. I would cringe to see footage of your viewers if they were filmed 24/7 just being them. Prefer to learn through you via honesty - being fake for the camera doesn’t help anyone. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing y’all! ☺️👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
reset your axle bolt, tighten the clamps, them drill a hole through the axle bolt a drive a crew or nail though it to stop any rotation
Put some Hay in the rabbit pen if she make a nest you know whats next, Oh the Camera is a lot of fun checking on what s around at night, Lot s of surpprises for sure even with out bait,
Can’t wait for the audiobook while tending to my own animals! 🥳
Enjoyed video! Henry is really gabbing and growing.
The rabbits will benefit if they are each given a hay rack with free choice hay.
Totally. And they shouldn't put the male into the females cage. I'm not sure why they are doing that backwards...
For meat rabbits or pets, that's great advice. However, when rabbits are given free choice hay while limited in activity in a cage they will inevitably gain weight, which isn't ideal for breeding purposes.
If I'm being honest, i feel like rabbit welfare is not really present on this homestead. I love Justin's video's, and everything he does with his other animals. They have such a good life. But not the rabbits. I have a big problem with the wire cages, small space and no access to hay. I also love Joel sallatin, and all the things he has brought in into the homesteading/farming world. But Justin is following his ideas here. I think there is just an overall lack of knowledge everywhere, from keeping them as pets to keeping them as production animals.
@@krystlepoulin6382 rabbits should have an unlimited amount of hay, always. 1. It keeps their teeth healthy and makes sure they don't grow to long so they can't eat anymore. 2. Their digestive system needs to have fuel constantly, they can get health problems if not. They need the fibers for a healthy gut and good poop. 3. It's in their natural behavior to be grazing like that the whole day. You can kind of compare it to a cow 🐮 4. A rabbits diet should consist of more hay and greenery then kibbles. If your rabbit is getting to fat, lower the amount of kibbles that your giving, but the hay can stay unlimited. Hay doesn't make a rabbit fat.
Just trying to be nice here and get the right info out ☺️
@@strykerdawn1 they are putting the female into the males cage. The male is the brown and white one.
Thank you for the video
Not for nothing but you're almost to 900K subs....on track for a million!!!
A trail cam, exciting!
Have you tried filling a spot flat on the threaded rod and drilling a hole and putting a screw through to prevent it turning out again.
Can’t wait to see what’s on those cams!!
Justin, you are so funny. I love when the author reads their books! I live in a locality where chickens are a huge fine....so I am really considering quail, because they are considered game birds and are not prohibited by city ordinances. Where I live has made it impossible to have Chickens, as you can not have a coop with 1000 feet of any city maintained road. It leaves 2 pieces of property, in the city limits, that could possibly apply for a permit (a $500 permit fee). I know it is about taxes...farm/agriculture property is taxed at a rate much lower than purely residential property... But it is annoying.
Damn stop selling ! I mean sometimes its ok but not every damn video ! Its just gritting now ugh !😡
Drives me nuts to, $$$ for him lol
Agree. Justin constantly shilling that abundance crap. Getting on nerves.
A boot rack might help the morning boot hunt, search pallet boot racks
Justin, you need a straight ankle from wheel to wheel.
Ur so patient
Blessings to all!
I use a gorilla wagon with a with one of those chicken hutch add-ons on top of it. I rigged up with an entry ramp and automatic door. My illegal "velociraptors" stay in that "tractor" and not in a coop. We give "hush-eggs" to our neighbors. They dig it but they are rule followers for sure. We agree with "ask for forgiveness and not permission" policy. Thanks for your continuously great content.
If you drill a hole through the axel you can pin the axel to the frame and end any chance that the axel will spin
Hi Justin , you may want to try this to sort out your reoccurring loose wheel and axle problem, this will be like a homestead made axle assembly . You want to get a length of pipe with an inside diameter that the threaded rod that you have as your axle will fit through , from what I can see your thread rod looks like 16mm , so a 22mm pipe should work (galvanized electric pipe might work well and should be readily available , you can also get some cast pipe clamps ( to hold the pipe in place which will hold the pipe more securely in place then the strap clamps that you are using , you just want to use the back half and use it upside down ) , you also what to get some O rings , some washers that will fit the threaded rod and are bigger then the outside diameter of the pipe , you will also need some heavy grease , some square washers and some nylock nuts .)
I would assemble the axles as follows , working from the wheel end thread two of the ordinary nuts onto the threaded rod far enough so that you can put a washer on then the wheel another washer an ordinary nut then a nylock nut leaving about 5mm of the threaded rod protruding, you can tighten these onto the wheel so that it does not spin (its tight on the rod) . Now put on two of the washers , you will now have to put on two of the ordinary nuts threading them down to the washers you can lock the nuts together but don't tighten them on to the wheel and nut assembly, the WASHERS NEED TO SPIN. Now put a washer that has an outside diameter bigger then the pipe , roll on an O ring almost all the way to the washer , you can now cut your pipe to to length , take the length pipe pack it with some grease on the one end ,about a quarter of the length of the pipe , push the greased end onto the threaded rod all the way through to the O ring trying to get the O ring to go into the pipe ,on the end that comes through you needed to roll an O ring on and try get it into the pipe ( this will help to hold the grease in place) then a washer (outside diameter bigger then that of the pipe} , two ordinary nuts (NB when you lock these nuts up DONT COMPRESS THE PIPE IT MUST BE ABLE TO TURN FREELY BUT NOT HAVE TO MUCH SIDEWAYS MOVEMENT ) a big square washer ,an ordinary nut then the nylock nut tightening the square washer between the two nut assemblies leaving about 5mm of the threaded rod protruding from the end of the nylock nut. The wheel and threaded rod assembly will turn in the pipe , you will have to cut a grove on the frame for the square washer to slide into , this will help hold the whole assembly in place and if you put one of the cast pipe clamps up against the square washer that would be more secure , then one in the middle and one on the outside edge. Try and make sure that none of the nuts are touching the frame as this works them loose. Your existing lengths of threaded rod will be fine, I know this sounds like a lot of work but once you have done it once you will have the hang of it , you will be able to do it on all your moveable shaws and cure your loose wheel and axle problems. Good luck.
It seems strange to me that you'd be telling your daughter that she will fail with her project and that you seem to be not willing to put in the work to help her. Have you tried giving her ways to figure out and problem solve her rabbit issue? It seems to me you know a fair number of people with a similar setup that could help you. Also, rabbits love the cold, why put them in the greenhouse?
When I was young I had a rabbit. Built a nice up on stilts covered house and a long tun off it. Put some bedding down for it. It was a nice little spot. Use to walk it around on a leash. I think dad was just frustrated she does not watch them and seems disinterested. Mom and daughter could do this project. Build a little shelter in each cage and put something down they can stand on to get off the wire bottom. Read up on them.
Hi..... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca, thank you for showing your video homestead chicken Duck Goose farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐈🐑🐄🐖🐇🌱🌺🌹🌿🌻🌼🌸🍀🌷🏡🎥👍👍👍
I live in the country with free range chickens for 16 years. A neighbor complained last year that the rooster and one chicken were eating the cat food they left out around their house for feral cat colony (all neutered/ TNR). We locked up the chickens for 2 months, then left them out again. They’re so far away that I don’t know why the chickens would want to go so far for food. So far they haven’t ventured over, but we’ve also upped the feed here. Neighbor wouldn’t accept free cat food nor eggs. Just wanted to grumble.
The rabbits need nestbox
Look at one of the kids bikes. Put a second nut closer to the shaw and it will stop the rotation of the allthread. You will have to put some washers on either side of the wheel to allow movement but it should stop the unwinding for lack of a better word.
Keep a nesting box for the rabbits
The best part if the video is the sweet baby talking. NEVER have a rooster near neighbors!!! I didn’t mind the neighbors chickens it was the @:%#€?! Rooster crowing all the time.
Rabbits are some of the easiest animals to raise, seems odd to distance yourself from a project because of some weird perceived notion that it's difficult. So many good examples but an absolutely glaringly awful one for Lilly to have to deal with.
Lilly wanted the rabbits. This is her project. Justin is letting her do it.
Sandra Westley uk absolutely she wanted the project of the rabbits they were bought for her to do it, so I think Justin is right he lets the kids try things that they want to do, it wouldn’t be fair just to take it over at all, that’s how kids learn.
It's not about taking over, no one said to take over.. if you don't understand the comment, you may try refraining from replying.
Again, not what any of us are saying.
Justin you should try and get on the Joe Rogan show to promote your book. I know he had Joel Salatin on his show a couple times. You would do great!
Thanks for answering my question!!! thats whats happening with the rabbits! hahaaha

On the chick shelf why not try a different Axel so you can put a cotter pin in it

Papa Brown, where are your boots?!?!
Is it normal (safe) to have the baby hanging down so low in the carrier? I have only seen ones where the baby is up high on the chest or back.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but could a mobile “goat-shaw” be an option?
Im pretty sure the female rabbit will attack/ reject the male if shes been bred. I used to breed giant lops when i was a kid x
Do you only answer questions on abundance +. ?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Trail cams are so much fun!! I use them all the time now!!
Sometimes if the male rabbit is to use to being by the girls you can have them not as interested (in my experience) so ya might need to move him away for a few days or so then back over to his cage by them and try....just an idea from when I had rabbits :)
Haha I can relate to the kid who can never find his shoes
Please listen to an experienced rabbit breeder. ME. You MUST assume that the rabbit DID get bred and give her a nest box and nesting materials 28 days from that PAST breeding date or you are going to end up with dead kits on the wire.
Did I miss the sheep shaw upgrade?
oh my! Please be mindful of Henry's head.
