What a top guy such an honest and enthusiastic ranking of Eric's incredible body of work, i love your rankings young sir, my favourite is August, im wishing you well stay safe
Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney are my two favourite musicians as well!! :-) I'm not going to rank ALL his albums, but my top 5, in no particular order would be 461 Ocean Boulevard Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs Disraeli Gears Journeyman Reptile And I would also somehow squeeze in Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton somewhere "in between" my top 5.
Although I don't agree with you on your album choices & having said that most of us E.C. fans are going to love different albums for different reasons. I was most impressed on your presentation, you did a fabulous job, maybe a career in investigative journalism is in your future! 👍🇨🇦
Hi James! As a Clapton fan I enjoyed your video very much and I noticed how different musical tastes can be ;-). I never would have rated Back Home that high ;-) but as you said, Eric has no really bad album. Thanks for this video , great stuff!
hi James, first off I'm glad I inspired the new intro, it's super cool! Your channel deserves a great intro so yay! Well wow, ranking Eric Clapton albums, what a mighty task indeed. Just first another thanks..., I had so much fun doing the video together with you on my channel for our Eric Clapton collection, so it's good to get an official ranking on your channel as well, since we didn't do anything like that on our joint video. This was fun... I'm glad at least on the bottom of the list you still enjoy the albums like BB King and J.J. Cale stuff, as I do probably enjoy those a bit more than you. From there on I can see you really struggled haha and I'm sure I would too if I was brave enough to attempt such a video. I def. like the 80's albums more than you (particularly "August", a personal favorite), but that's no mystery I'm sure as I've told you many times it's one of my favorite Clapton periods. The great thing about E.C.'s albums is there really aren't any BAD periods, so I can see based on your taste for other artists, where you would place 80's albums a bit lower than the others you rank higher, makes perfect sense for Rockboy's taste hehe. OK my friend, I don't want to write a novel here, but I have to tell you my top 5 at least. I know I ramble but bare with me here.. #5 goes to "Pilgrim", (just the last 1/3 of the album keeps it out of the top 3 for me), #4 goes to "461 Ocean Blvd", (an obvious choice but who cares, it's one of the most iconic albums ever), #3 for me is ... "From the Cradle" (the peak of his U.S. sales period, and very eagerly awaited as you say), just an amazing album from start to finish.. #2 "Journeyman" (which contains my all time favorite Clapton solo song Pretending), and finally #1, no shocker is "Slow Hand" (for all the obvious reasons) James again, thank you so so much for doing the collections video with me on my channel, that was one of the most fun things I've ever done on my music channel, and I hope you feel the same. This ranking video was so entertaining, so enjoyable, you are an absolute delight, so spunky, and so COMPLETE! While you've always been one of my very favorite RUclips channels, you just keep getting BETTER! How is that possible? haha, well thanks for reading the long comment and I can't wait til we plan out our next joint video. Take care James, and keep the awesome videos coming! PS.. I'm going to send you an I.V. Water Bag, you are one thirsty music lover haha, take care mate. :) PSS.. If this video doesn't inspire your viewers to go buy some solo Clapton albums, nothing will ! So underrated PSSS... I wrote a novel anyway didn't I? :)
Im surprised you ranked Me & Mr Johnson so low. I like the way EC electrified RJ's great songs. Today i just picked up used copies of another ticket, the debut, and the rainbow concert plus best of Cream.
The first Clapton album had the Dominos on it and he didn’t even realize it or mention it. I’m a life long Clapton fan but there are a few lame albums and Pilgrim sucks in my opinion. And the Album called No reason to cry is one of my favourite albums by him . The Dylan track is Sign Language and it’s a great song and I like Dylan’s vocals.
Top 10 Eric Clapton Albums: 10. No Reason to Cry 💿 9. Old Sock 💿 8. Clapton 💿 7. From the Cradle 💿 6. Backless 💿 V. 461 Ocean Boulevard 💿 4. Journeyman 💿 3. Back Home 💿 2. Pilgrim 💿 1. Slowhand 💿
Hey James, I was suprised by your order. Seems like you dont like collaborations with Eric and other artist? :) I would have made my top 5 albums like this #5 Slowhand: Great album dont need to say more, but some songs are a little too country for my liking. #4 Backless: One of my favorite songs from this album is Promises as well. #3 Clapton: I am a huge fan of american songbook albums and this one has got to be my favorite. #2 Riding With The King: My love of the blues along with the fact that this was my first new record that I ever got makes it get my top spot. (I know that you dident add this to your countdown but couldent resist) #1 Unplugged: The best of the unplugged albums. It has some of my favorite songs from Clapton on it (I have to say that i like the acoustic version of Layla better than the original) so i have to put this album here. Thanks for making great videos keep up the great work!
+Jay Stocks With all due respect how could you rate Backless above so many far better Albums. It's good but not great, too much filler.Just my thoughts ,it's a very overrated effort.
+kerry mcmanus First of all I love the songs on it. I have about half if the Eric Clapton albums so i dont know the rest. Also it was the first of his albums that i bought so i have had the most time to listen to that one. That is why i like it more than others
Hi mate, fair enough,we all have different reasons for our thoughts,& i respect yours.I think his best period was from 92 to 98,but i love him very much. Cheers Mate.
5.Riding With The King 4. From the Cradle 3. Clapton 2. Old Sock 1. Journeyman. By the way, Clapton's soundtrack from Rush movie is really great and you have not mentioned about it here. His performance on "Can't Find my Way Home" with Buddy Guy must be one of the best blues songs ever recorded. Other instrumental numbers are hauntingly sweet. And of course, it has Tears In Heaven.
It's hard to rate his albums, good job although i would rate Reptile a lot higher..My top Albums would be Pilgrim,From the Cradle,Journeyman,Slowhand, Reptile.461,Back Home.,the rest ,well about another week for me to figure out. Cheers.
I bought a copy of (your number 5) 461 ocean boulevard from HMV the other day, originally it was priced at £19.99,reduced to £7.99,I had to grab it,bargain.
There's One in Every Crowd: Side 2 is better than Side 1. It is not a religious album, just has 2 gospel numbers on it cause Clapton was never a very hard working composer. It is a fantastic album. And of course the Cover is great. The backcover would not have been a good cover of course. A lot of it is a bit thoughtless. It is not so much fun listening because you can feel he already knows what he gonna say. It looks spantanous but isn't.
I dont think There's one in every crowd is his religious album. There he covers ancient gospel spirituals like he covers blues, reggee and other forms of roots music here and in all his other albums.
Oh the irony, ' There's One In Every Crowd ' is actually a very underrated album
Was just listening to Slowhand this morning. The 35th Anniversary 2 disc deluxe edition with the second CD live at the Hammersmith odeon in 1977.

Thank you for your top 10 list of Eric Clapton Albums, I used it for buying some Eric Clapton Albums, you're right they are very good, thank you.

The female singer you're thinking of is Marcy Levy.
👏👏👌
Where would "I still do" fit on this list?
I bought a copy of (your number 5) 461 ocean boulevard from HMV the other day, originally it was priced at £19.99,reduced to £7.99,I had to grab it,bargain.
Thanks
I do not own any Eric Clapton albums.
McCartney plays all instruments.. Clapton is a guitarist, McCartney is a much Better songwriter than Clapton

You missed "From the Cradle" 🙄
uuhh no he didn't lol
461 ocean Blvd should be lower down!
Sorry dont agree with your McCartney/Clapton comparison - Paul McCartney is by far the better songwriter
very boring musician
