I've been holding back on doing audio for some time.... the information on this video has been a lot of help in helping me to pick not only which direction to go, but also with the timing of when to do it a little more clearly. Thank you for sharing this insight as I've not heard of Findaway before.
Glad it helped! I really think both companies are worth looking into. I'm leaning heavily in favor of Findaway Voices because they have what ACX always should have had - ability to price your audiobook.
Thanks for the video! If I'm already on ACX (non-exclusive) I assume I can I still use Findaway Voices to distribute to other platforms?
Yes, you can! Pretty cool, right?
Great content, thanks! I’m about to publish and was going to go exclusive with ACX, but it sounds like non-exclusive with ACX and using Findaway for breadth is the better call. Keep up the great work!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Very helpful in me choosing what to do!
Glad it was helpful!
I love Publisher Rocket. Sponsor or not, it's an amazing tool. I use it a lot. I moved from ACX to Findaway so I could be non-exclusive and now I make most of my audiobook money posting those same audiobooks on RUclips. Lol
Nice!!!
So would you say Findaway was better for yourself than ACX?
@@bigmoisture69 yes. Exclusivity keeps you away from too many opportunities. Kobo has really cool promotions, Chirp is amazing (and free) putting audiobooks on RUclips can be a big income stream, plus you can still have your books on Audible, just at a lower royalty rate. Not to mention all the libraries and selling direct as a potential option. Being ACX exclusive just can't compete with all that anymore. They used to, but not anymore in my opinion.
hey Dale, If I only have an audiobook version ready, is it possible to publish to audible? or do I need to first have ebook ready?
For ACX, you'll need an ebook or print book first. But, you can do the audiobook version Findaway Voices to get Audible distribution. That's one of the perks of using Findaway Voices.
Do you have any updated videos on making your book audio? Which one do you recommend? 🤔
For Children's Books.
I don't talk about the mechanics of recording an audiobook, but if you stay tuned, I'll be discussing what you need and some general recommendations to get you started. It's on-tap within the next month or two.
Doesn't Audible still price the audiobook based on the length of the book, nontheless if you actually priced it yourself in findaway?
Hmmmm, that's a good question. Yes, if you're going through ACX, but I don't know how they treat Findaway Voices. Since I never use FV to reach Amazon/Audible, I don't know for sure. Reach out to their support.
Hi Dale, I've only recently discovered your videos and wish I'd seen them earlier, great work btw. However, I have a question please. If you publish an audiobook with Authors republic, can you publish the same book with Findaway voices? Or, is there no point in going with both?
Sadly, Author's Republic doesn't allow you a choice. You either use them to get to Findaway Voices and a few other avenues, or not at all. I even reached out to them and asked if they plan to offer the choice. No dice. It's sad, because I think they limit themselves. Next week, I'll be talking about Author's Republic. They are a viable option, but have some limitations.
P.S. You get the award for best RUclips channel name and profile picture!
@@selfpubwithdale Hi Dale, thank you for your reply, very much appreciated. As a follow up question, is it worth alternating between between AR and FV for each new audiobook you want to publish? Or do you think that it's more ethical to stick to one company? And thanks for the channel comment too btw :)
@@flatulentcat1947 I don't think it's unethical, but it sure does create more work for you. I'd pick one or the other, not both. Keep in mind, you're putting a middleman between another middleman. Meaning, Author's Republic distributes to Findaway Voices that distributes to other platforms. So, when a sale is made on a platform, the platform collects a portion of the sale, Findaway Voices collects a portion of the sale and Author's Republic collects a portion of the sale. Sooooo...you're left with WAY less than if you were to go direct. I wish AR would allow rights holders to deselect Findaway Voices as a distribution avenue. But, it's an all or nothing mentality with them.
@@selfpubwithdale Ahhhh okay, makes sense now. Thank you for your help and advice and keep up the great work.
Can you just use both non-exclusively? Nvm. (answered at the end)
Great! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@selfpubwithdale Thanks for making it.
I've been considering using the AI audio book creation for my non fiction. Can't recall the name but Joanna Penn talks about it.
Yeah, she's always eyeing up AI and futuristic concepts. You've got a great voice and good equipment. Why don't you narrate it yourself?
@@selfpubwithdale thanks 😊 I was thinking about it.... more research, I must do.
