    Hi Dale, just joined up with Findaway voices, thanks for the info. I self-published on Lulu in 2008 with no idea on what I was doing and due to a recent work injury have started writing again. I have found your guidance tremendously helpful. Cheers

    Your video just saved me!!! Dale. I am a new author - Indian living in Denmark. Just published my first non-fiction on Change Management in Amazon. I received feedback from many of my friends/ex-colleagues that such management books are well consumed, if there's an audio book format. Then my nightmare started. All these new jargons and list of narrators on Upwork .... highly intimidating! This is the first time, I am getting to know you and this happens to be the first video I landed on. The way you explain, makes people feel welcome. I have just registered with findawayvoices and hopefully see you on the other end of audiobook publishing. Thanks a million for such a wonderful video!

    Great work! my first comment on your vids - really inspirational. I've been working on eBooks for a couple of years as a 'dabbler' but I just some fire in my bum to actually try and change my life! Since then I've been consuming YT content voraciously and you're the best of the bunch I think! I love your style without the ubiquitous Ferrari money shot! I just launched my first audiobook on ACX and then I 'went wide' with the following three on Findaway Voices just last week. ACX have still to approve however Findaway Voices have already approved and now I can see their links at Scribd and Kobo which is epic! I really love their ethics and I think their more transparent so I'm hoping to ride on their success and that of the ever growing distribution partners. I checked out another of your vids and I did try PublishDrive however I found them less friendly and engaging (and as it was only for another 2 distribution partners - I decided to stick with ACX non-exclusive and Findaway Voices for the time being and to see what happens. Its early days yet - but if you have a course I would love to join!! OK that's a long comment sorry!

    Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel! You raised a good question, do we need an ISBN/ISMN with musical accompaniment? I think the rules are that a new version needs something, although I haven't seen the platforms state it.

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  3 года назад

      I believe you only need the ISBN since it's published as an audiobook as opposed to a musical piece. Sadly, I do NOT know much about the music industry. I'd recommend consulting a business attorney for a better idea. Sorry I couldn't help much.

    • @elainegmorrison
      @elainegmorrison 3 года назад

      I asked the ISBN place in Canada. ISBN for audiobook. The music was also previously ISBNed as a score, so that works.

    Dale, thanks. Your talk was very informative. I Have 3 novels published Print and E with a great small publisher, West Margin Press, but none of them is in audio. I have 2 memoirs, one still in second draft, the other finished. I plan to narrate it at a local studio and then find a distributor and you certainly have made me aware of the benefits of going with Findaway.

    Dale what is a finished hour please. I enjoyed you podcast a lot thank you

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  3 года назад

      "Per finished hour" is a rate you pay for audiobook narration. Let's say your audiobook is about 4.5 hours of content, then your narrator would be creating 4.5 hours of finished content. And, if they charge $100 per finished hour for your 4.5-hour book, then it's going to cost $450. Make sense?

    Should you have an llc for when self publishing or how does the account information work? like for our bank? I'm new to all of this

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  3 года назад

      It's generally a good idea to have a business entity. I recommend reaching out to a CPA and business attorney for what works best for you. As for a bank account, yes, set up a separate bank account with your business entity. Then, pay yourself as an employee.

    Good video. Do you have any videos on how to link your audiobook to your book sales page on Amazon?

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  2 года назад +1

      It should be automatic if the metadata matches. I recommend opening an Amazon Author Central profile. Then, reach out to their support and ask them to link your audiobook with your other versions. I have a full video series about Author Central over here:

      @@selfpubwithdale Oh, one more thing. I think I want to use Findaways for narration and to create my audiobook. But it appears that I have to fork up a lot of information (like my manuscript). It feels odd that I need to hand over my manuscript before even receiving a quote. Is this something I should be worried about?

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  2 года назад

      @@griffinfurlong Nope, that's normal. If you're concerned about it, put a watermark across the manuscript. Then, when they accept the gig, send them the watermark free version. Easy fix! And valid concern.

    Can I still use findaway voices if I'm in a country from Nepal?

  • @deandeano6075

    Hi Dale, thanks for this vid! Just one question, does publishing through findaway voices solves the issue of the kindle version requirement by amazon? So if I wanted to publish just the audiobook without an ebook and still have it show up on audible, this could be done through findaway when they distribute it to amazon/audible?

    Do you ever worry that they aren’t paying you?

    • @selfpubwithdale
      @selfpubwithdale  2 года назад +1

      No, because those are what-if scenarios that'll waste my time. What if they overpay you??? Think about that. Findaway Voices is an Ohio-based company, and I've personally visited and hung out at their headquarters just a couple hours north of us. Now that Spotify acquired their parent company, you can guarantee there's not going to be any shenanigans. If you're really worried about not getting your sales from a company, start your own site. Remove the middle man. The only issue you'll run into is generating site traffic. There's no shame in going solo and I even encourage it if you know how you'll drive traffic.
