So fully summing up Piastri’s quali, he need an extra run in Q1 to go through, meaning he was left with one new set of softs for Q3. First Q3 run on used softs, and the used softs were off for everyone (as demonstrated by Hamilton’s first Q2 run). Second Q3 run was looking promising until he understeered off into the gravel at turn 13.
A q3 to forget for Oscar, that's for sure. He's still making the odd silly mistake but he's coming along very nicely and he's in a great car which helps.
I dont think you can show Perez video or images of how to drive and expect him to do it. So much of what Max does is instinct and feel... You either have it or not.

Lando was doing a constant speed aero test, he was off the racing line - leclerc should have got at least 5 place drop for that - crazy that the FIA say that any intent is irrelevant. On top of that, Leclerc clearly lied to the stewards

Along side most people i had almost wrote this season off, qualifying is ridiculously close at the momment and im loving it feels like we have our sport back! Forget 2026 i cant wait for next season if everybodys this close from the start it will be absolutely mega!

Lewis, Max, Michael, Senna all have atleast 1 lap, if not 2, that are contenders for the perfect lap. But, I think Peter is right, it's impossible to be perfect but there's been some bloody close ones.

Fully agree crashing into another car in frustration from being blocked in practice is ridiculous. Charles should get a hefty fine for that and maybe a penalty point. Stroll incident didn't look as blatantly malicious, but they should check the telemetry. The pinnacle of motorsport doesn't need temper tantrums behind the wheel over minor incidents in practice.

Happy as I am for Lando, the sadness for Oscar is greater, really wishing for him to pull one of those races that only the top top can do and that moment at the end of that last lap in Q3 became his "moment when I decided to be the best ever" experience.
I wanted Oscar to do well as well. I think he should have played more safety first on that second run and gone for a P5 or P6 and not gone all out. He admitted he was not happy with the setup and he was guilty of not playing the percentages. I suppose he feels under pressure to try to equal Lando. he should stop doing that and concentrate on his own performance.
Peter, there were two disturbing incidents in FP3 which I can't recall when they last happened. The two events were Stroll intentionally hitting Lewis even after Lewis motioned to him for his unintentional blocking of him. Then, in the same FP3 Charles showed his displeasure towards Lando for blocking him by hitting him intentionally. I thought the rule generally calls for a penalty point to help deter these type of things considering how little it takes to damage these cars which are perfectly prepared by FP3. They both received admonishments. Your thoughts?

What upsets me about the two stroll n le clec incidents, is that when lewis ( just for the example) walked across the track after a crash, he was severely punished n fined, the Fia reasoning being hes famous, and its a bad example he is setting to future race drivers/ fans , as bs as that was fine ok...we fans accepted it, now you have two drivers intentionally turning into others , in a fit of road rage, no less, n the fia just smile n wave them on, i ask u, what example is that setting to future fans n drivers? Thats its ok to use your car as a battering ram if u unhappy with another driver, that resorting to violent n destructive driving is ok if you feel agreived and upset? I wonder how much PW actually pays attention to the qualifying... what was he watching when Piastri was doing either of his TWO runs in the session? First lap was a 1:12.5 I believe and was deleted for track limits, his second aborted after a trip to the gravel
PW suggests these absurdly fine margins are down to engineering. They are not. Two hundredths over a 71 second lap is down to the traffic, the tows, the tyre windows, the drivers' lines and the timing of 150 gear changes. The engineering is essentially identical.

Gaz was the real story - 0.1 off third... The whole field was so close every session. Shame about Vcarb they need LL in there he's a better qualifier than Dan. Both Stroll and Charles deserved three spot grid penalties for practice swerves...its the bad sportsmanship more than anything. Maxs race pace will run away with it. Punisher max will appear again. Couple of weird safety cars and anyone can win it...

I think the worst Perez can do is look at what Max is doing, it will only demotivate him, plus it has been very obvious not many drivers can handle is way of setting up the car. Yeah I can second on the demotivation bit. I used to ride go karts on an national level. Had my podiums here in there. Especially when on a wet track. Quit at 14. Fast forward an 32 your old slower version of myself. Starting to get back into shape sim racing Gran Turismo. Dominating lobbies 10 in a row or so. Game decides yeah this guy has it let’s drop him with the A-S Tier drivers including 3-4 to 10 leaderboard boys. I lost 3-4 tenths a lap. Every lap every god damn lap. I am consistent I tried to push but I just could match it. Started overdriving making mistakes. Losing confidence and then started even losing pace. I just couldn’t match them and got demotivated in the game. Started racing buddies again and make them better in multiple sims. Especially on long stints and set-ups. Way more rewarding for me. I just lack the fine feeling at the limit of the best. And I do not have the consistency under pressure. I fail when that happens And that’s fine

Everybody says that Barcelona is a boring race, but I don't think so. Maybe the track has just the one racing line and the DRS is too long so overtakings have no emotion whatsoever, but since is the only way to pass another car, there's little that can be done. Nevertheless, there is always something that spices the race; recurrently, and somehow key for the history of the sport, Merc self-destructive spasms, but not just that; just from the top of my mind: the last Williams victory was there, and what a win that was! and what a race! and what a fire!

Lando was so fast out of turn 2, I can’t always tell just from an onboard, but the McLaren felt so strong on his pole run it really hit me.

Game decides yeah this guy has it let’s drop him with the A-S Tier drivers including 3-4 to 10 leaderboard boys.
I lost 3-4 tenths a lap. Every lap every god damn lap.
I am consistent I tried to push but I just could match it. Started overdriving making mistakes. Losing confidence and then started even losing pace.
I just couldn’t match them and got demotivated in the game. Started racing buddies again and make them better in multiple sims. Especially on long stints and set-ups.
Way more rewarding for me. I just lack the fine feeling at the limit of the best. And I do not have the consistency under pressure. I fail when that happens And that’s fine

Everybody says that Barcelona is a boring race, but I don't think so. Maybe the track has just the one racing line and the DRS is too long so overtakings have no emotion whatsoever, but since is the only way to pass another car, there's little that can be done. Nevertheless, there is always something that spices the race; recurrently, and somehow key for the history of the sport, Merc self-destructive spasms, but not just that; just from the top of my mind: the last Williams victory was there, and what a win that was! and what a race! and what a fire!

looks like ferrari is the 4th place team behind mercedes. sainz said they are porpoising in high speed corners and the red bull and mclaren are perfectly smooth. looks like ferraris upgrades are a complete failure if they are behind mercedes. if ferrari is 1 min behind the winner and far behind mercedes. the season is a complete failure. spain will show how good the car is for the european races. ferrari is going to have to make newey the ceo of ferrari and 51 percent owner.
