    I think Max managed the last stint beautifully. The dominant Max would have set a few fastest lap at the beginning of that stint but he knew he couldn't afford t over use the tyres so he just kept the pace reasonable throughout

    • @the1gladiator2
      @the1gladiator2 4 месяца назад +44

      Indeed. People are confused by how easy Verstappen makes it look. If it really was that easy then surely Perez would at least be able to keep up with the competition.
      If there was more pace in the Red Bull it would be used because you always want to avoid scenario's where an unfortunate safety car can cost you the lead of the race. There simply isn't any margin here for Red Bull, this is all they have.

    To be honest, Max lost momentum when he was pushed onto the grass during the start. So if we start the iffing game take that into consideration, because Max would be way in front at the first corner.
    So stop iffing, no use, it happened as it happened and we have a deserved winner.

    This race gave me some flashbacks to COTA 21, when Max pulled another superb masterclass of tire management. Boxed lap 30/56, and Lewis boxed lap 38, and it all came down to the last 3 laps, but by then Lewis destroyed his tires and Max won. Max knew exactly what he had to do today, and pulled it off beautifully. Driver of the day for me for sure.

    • @andrewmelton2686

      Cota 21 was more of a fumble from mercedes, they let max undercut lewis twice. Lewis was ahead and the first pit stop he came out like 10 seconds behind max and had too much work to make up that time. Great drive from both though, they were miles ahead of their teammates and rest of the field

    Verstappen isn't last of the late brakers on a hot lap, but he is very capable of braking just as late as any other driver out there in any direct on track battle without barely ever locking up. Verstappen is also very very strong at the first corner of the first lap. So I'm not sure where this idea comes from that Norris should have been able to outbrake Verstappen. Surely you have seen by now how many times Verstappen comes out on top in a situation like this.

    • @truth4reel
      @truth4reel 4 месяца назад +6

      Simple Lando was on the outside which allows him to carry more speed into the corner than Max who was approaching the corner at a more acute angle hence slower speed. If Lando had opened the steering a little and gone deeper into the corner Max would have had to do a spain 2021 against Lewis and risk smashing into the side of Lando

    • @RoderickVoordouw
      @RoderickVoordouw 4 месяца назад +7

      Indeed a strange comment from Peter. Late braking might win you the corner and a position but it isn't necesarily the fastest way around a track. Knowing when to use which is what makes you a fast and versatile driver. Aside from that, braking early for one corner might set you up with a far better entry into the next so you can overtake easier then. I think Max knows what he is doing.

    • @the1gladiator2
      @the1gladiator2 4 месяца назад

      @@truth4reel The problem is that if the car on the inside brakes later you have nowhere to go on the outside and you can easily lose a bunch of places. Norris also couldn't react to Verstappen because Verstappen was behind. Verstappen could always react to the moment Norris braked to make sure he would brake later.
      Staying around the outside is a very difficult move to pull off, especially on the first corner of the first lap of a race.

    I used to not believe that there is a british bias in the media and sky in particular, but boy oh boy, the commentators could not shut up about Norris today, completely ignoring that he had CLEARLY a faster car and bottled it his own.
    The DOTD reminds me of that time in Austira 2021, where Leclerc was overtaking peopel a touch too closely and ended up clipping Gasly's tire with his front wing, taking him out of the race and having to pit for a new wing, coming out towards the back. He basically spent all race trying to undo the damage he did to himself, finished behind Sainz, took one driver out and got DOTD still.

Pretty good start, brilliant fast overtake on Russell (which Norris couldn't do) and from there on great mangement of the tyres and strategy.. Norris and Mclaren blew it at the start and with their strategy (why the longer 1st stint?!?), losing to much time behind the Mercedes.. It was obvious once in free air Mclaren with Norris was the fastest car today but Verstappen and Red Bull simply did a better job again taking the win in this Grand Prix.. That's 3 out of the 4 last races now they did that.. 69 points ahead in the WDC, I do not see Verstappen lose that lead, even if McLaren and Norris are faster now..

    I think you need to consider Lewis allowed Lando to pass, no point fighting.
    George couldn't help himself and that allowed Lewis to get close, not scrub his tyres, and was much more sensible.

    Max said on tv that lando got closer because didnt want to risk anything. If push came to shove he had enough left to race. Personally lando was lucky not to get punished

    Really was a great race. Lando gets just a slightly better launch and this race is completely different. Love to see McLaren challenging from a car that started this season objectively worse than the RB on virtually every category

      Max won his rookie race for Red Bull in Barcelona 2016 in a car he had had 1 hour practice in, managed his tyres better than anyone and kept two former world champions in better cars behind him in a brilliant finale.
      Anyone who knows anything about F1 knows this is the proof that shuts down all the trolls.
      Norris knows this of course, and tried to beat him in his own game..

    It's about very small decisions at the right time Lot's of talk about Lando having to pass George and as a result lost his chance to win...but as Peter said Lando was faster than Max...so why couldn't he pass as Max did and get On with his race.. The other thing was at the start Lando was to busy watching max and let George get by..
