But my husband explained to him that a man walks into a room with a different sort of confidence when he he has the tools to protect himself at all times.

Those people will not loose a minute of sleep thinking about what they did to this young man. Less than 100 years ago they killed us for the thrill of it. Every one who is actually guilty needs to be sued so this man can be cared for and so that they will never forget what they did.
No one called 911 or sought help from passersby to help him. Ostensibly 20 minutes passed from the time he entered the water till he was rescued. No one rendered aid, jumped in, threw a life line or summonsed help, absolutely derelict.
They weren't his friends , & This wasn't an accident. it stopped any pretense of "accident" when no one even tried to get him out

I live in Georgia in a small town and i always told and tell my friends today stay out the woods and anywhere, where there is water most of the time that's where they do dirty work to our people,they are cowards,and when i worked with them people you are not invited to my home,i don't want to go no where with you and i don't go to their house.I don't trust none of those people no matter how fake nice they try to be.Eight hours a day dealing with them people was too much for me, but this is what you endure day in and day out working with them people trying to take care of your families. At 62 i retired because i didn't want to be an old lady in jail i had put up with that hate every since i was 14 .Please don't trust none of them people i know i'am a baby boomer.

This is how my Father made his transition. A so called,best friend, pushed him in the water. My Father could not swim and only had 4 toes,which he was embarrassed about, so he wouldn't get in water. His so called friend was made about an argument they had previously and intentionally did that to my Father. I never got to meet my Dad either. He was laid to rest 5 days before I was born.

It was on the news you have to watch your kids more carefully.
