Someone should definitely make a mod that expands on this, maybe make it so you can directly tell him that you're helping and have him as a temporary companion until you wipe out everyone in mccarren.
that one mod that lets you recruit any NPC should work well enough to help supplement your roleplay. JIP Companions Command and Control. i think if you recruit him mid quest, it shouldnt break anything. be sure to save though!
