i did one of those without bones or armatures, just object transforms and constrains...it was gonna be fun they said, it was a challange they said...IT WAS HELLLLLLL
Thanks for this!! This is exactly what I needed. I am just starting out in blender, so I was confused when the bones became sticks 😅 but it just takes some time getting used to!
Once you get comfy with bones, you'll likely never want them in octahedral. At least in my experience, too clunky and in the way! Thanks for checking it out! -Chunck :)
Hey, thanks man! I'm happy to hear that, really appreciate it. I've got some plans for the show which I'm hoping people will like! As well, if you check out the channels playlists, I've slowly been building a "Let's Build It In Blender" playlist with all of these videos. -Chunck :)
@@cg_cookie No thank you for what you gave us you are making modeling interesting with all that combo bevel i will keep subscribe till you have big library on cgcookie but dont be late :) may i will be poor one day lol
One question remains: How do you make the IK such that it rotates along the z-Axis? Let's say you want to lift one thing up, and place it somewhere else.
@@calllen You can achieve this by limiting the bones rotation. Pose mode- select bone - in the bone properties you can find under inverse Kinematics the limits for the rotation, so you can have bone that rotate only in the z axis. It does not work with contraints in the bone constraints properties.
Hey I'll take it! I'm hoping one day it'll come full circle and Andrew can be the Chunck of AE tutorials, although I'm not sure his audience would quite know what that means. -Chunck :D
I doubt ill make a cent I dont use Twitter much recommend telegram its way faster and has no data limit I didn't use Netflix for two years cince I got. telegram (in the back ground opera voices) xD
This is a good tutorial, very well made and informative. However, I would have used IK-rotation limits on the IK chain instead of limit location on the IK target. Limit location, I believe, locks an object in a rectangular area, meaning that your object can reach hard corners. IK automates the rotation of an IK chain, if you set up IK limits on the chain, it will restrict the chain in arcs and circles. Otherwise this was a good job :)
The piston parts become mis-aligned when rending animation. Blender terminal will start spamming "Dependency cycle detected". I read that cyclic dependency causes this so constraint combos like that are not allowed in Blender.
Is it better to do constraints on the IK or the original bones? I had been doing the latter, and I never thought of the idea of doing it only in one place, such as the IK.
I suppose it would depend on the constraint. You wouldn't want to do the IK constraint actually ON the IK controller bone, since that would be some weird circular dependency. For the Limit Location constraint, I've not had any weird issues with it but I'm sure there may some limitations in a given scenario that I've not encountered yet! Certainly makes it easier to track all of the constraints when it is only on one bone. -Chunck :)
Hi please could you help, I'm very confused because when you parent the IK controller to the base bone it creates a cyclical dependency? Also: when it only works when I add the IK constraint to the IK controller bone, not the last bone in the rig.......
when I try to use the "strech to" constraint it won't let me sellect the rig. It says "failed to set value". What can I do? Also my top piston is green for some reason and no other bone is
Someone know why the Limit location constraint only works in "positive Z and not negative Z" i have the rig backwards, but is possible to do the constrain in both Z
Can you please explain all the bone constraints...? with examples if possible. The only other person who has done it is a indian dude & I can't understand a single word because of his accent & mic...
I think it is possible we could do a video or series covering that at some point! I'd first have to learn them all myself, I'm sure there's many with some pretty niche use-cases! -Chunck :)
This was exactly what I was looking for! I made an arcade claw and had no idea how to rig it! Thanks! :)
Happy to help out! Thanks for checking out the vid. -Chunck :)

Best rigging tutorial ever. Every question i’ve ever had about rigging had been answered
Well gee dang, thanks Boris! I tried to cram a good amount of rigging in there, give you your money's worth! -Chunck :)
I always find myself coming back to this tutorial
Nice, now I can create a production line and fist all my 3d models. Thank you!!
Happy to help! Although, also slightly alarmed by that statement. -Chunck :D
Lmao it's jk!
Been looking for a machine piston tutorial, best one I've found yet. Perfection!
Stretch To constraint! Why didn't i think of that? You guys are brilliant. Love what you do, please keep it up and thank you for everything 🙂
thank you sir, A clear concise video on how to get arms and pistons rigged. You are the best.
Awesomely short and precise.. There are so many concepts shown clearly.. I thanked you for that
Thank you so much! was stuck 2 days, trying to make a train follow a path... this will help me keep the wagons together while following a curve
This tutorial is super quick and yet so full of information. Great one!
Excellent video. Thank you. I would like to see more complex videos on this topic

Good job, thanks a lot
That was really interesting. I imagined that you would use constraints, but I didn't know how
Wow your videos help me out so much, kepp uploading, please
I'm happy to hear it, Manco! Thanks for checking them out, have some cool stuff planned for the future of the series. -Chunck :)
Thanks!!

Great stuff!
Thanks for the this. Really helpful.

very good tutorial, thank you!
This video just came in my recommended and I had a flashback of when you recruited me to make your jokes for you in the tree video
Fantastic
Listen to me man you have to make more its so good and you gotta make your own playlist in cgcookie you r the reason i subscribed

10/10 amazing tysm
THANK YOU, I need to make a robot now. Also i liked those jokes at the end lmao. (and the free gunshow shhh)
Happy you liked it! And hey, I won't tell anyone if you don't. -Chunck 🤐

Спасибо, это именно то, что мне было нужно. Коротко и информативно! :)
thanks
great!
Im trying to do this at 1 : 30 in the morning
It’s going about as well as you think lol
Could you maybe do a video on how to use gears in blender ? also this video was great thank you!
Hey that's an interesting one! I'll add it to the list of ideas, thank you for the suggestion! -Chunck :)
You can do it by animation nodes

want to know too
ILL BUY YOURE WHOLE STOCK

U DID GOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
We will have to put you on back-order, these things are flying off the shelves. -Chunck :D
a tutorial series on how to rig an excavator
you restricted the side rotation, but could you insteat make it so that when you move to the side, the bottom plate rotates?
wish he'd shown that
I have a robot with 2 rotation points in the arm to articulate like a human. I could do it the hard way but I wanted that rotation.

Thanks for watching, Dominik! Real question: What have I ever done to give you that impression!? -Chunck xD
@@cg_cookie Good question, honestly ... I don't know
Maybe you're cool with this series :D
nice
Blizzard walkers and Great job just fast enough and very informative. Well explained. Even with a little 😎 kids reference, lol
This finally made things click
Now if only I knew how to get the pistons to work when I export it into unity
please do a tutorial on excavator rigging

this guy: lets build it..
btw, its a nice tutorial bro!

Only if you have your driver's license! I'm not technically allowed to teach it without proof of driving capacity. -Chunck :D
Yay now I can model my caterpillar excavator. But let's call this guy the fist bump buddy so that no one leaves you hanging
Sorry, this rig only works on robots with hand models, so you're going to have to add one somewhere. Them's the rules! -Chunck :D
Dude no problemo I'll figure something out you won't sue me if I tweeked it and posted it on Twitter

What can I say, it's all the robot arms I make in a day using Blender. Targets all the muscles groups! -Chunck :D

Thanks daddy!

Bone constraints modifiers works in game engines such as unity and unreal?
PUN is stronge in this one
I can't make jokes, only robots. I RELY on puns. -Chunck 😝

When i snap the bone head to a point (which makes the bone inclined at angle), the bone rolls! May i ask how to fix this?
What’s that thing and why is that thing?

What happens when you combine all the meshes together...? I guess I'll experiment with that.

I'd like to know how you set up your viewport to show different colours for different objects
Search for "blender viewport shading random color" on Google. Easy enough to find the option.
I was trying to use shapekeys but its too annoying to deal with lol

looks really really good, but the model doesnt make much sense on how it moves, other then that it's great!
