I grew up listening to Tom T Hall. Great storyteller. My favorite is Old dogs and children, and watermelon wine. It makes me cry everytime I hear it because it is so true. Especially the part about God bless little children, while they're still too young to hate.
Yes, Jimmy, he's a great storyteller. That line about little children is just so true. Such a beautiful song. It was played at a close family friend's funeral and everytime I hear it I think of him. Tom T. Hall a legend...
I may not drink it, but I always liked I Like Beer, and Ballad of Forty Dollars. He not only was a great songwriter and singer, he also had a great sense of humor.
I remember this song when I was a kid 50 YEARS AGO!! Tells a sad story of a girl abandoned and waiting for her Daddy who never showed up!! Too true to life!
Non more frightening that WW1 ,WW2 , Vietnam, and all the other man made get rich wars down through this past 100 years, there's an easy escape from today's bs..unplug your tv and throw it in the garbage along with all the useless stuff you buy from Amazon..you can still live a simple life if u really want to .peace
This song brings back so many great memories. Grew up listening to this man in my childhood back in the 70’s. They don’t make music like this anymore. Music that actually makes you feel a certain way.
worked at a furniture store in a run down part of the city,so many years ago..right down the block was a little hole in the wall bar.Used to drop in after work for a couple beers..This song was always playing on the juke box...fun times..The owner was an old boy who had lost a leg,in an accident..He was always sitting at the end of the bar, making all kinds of cracks,a real hoot. When he had a few too many,he would take off his prosthetic leg,and lay it on the bar..Guess he was more comfortable with it off..Anyway the song takes me back to those times....Lots of good memories...simpler times
If I had to give Mr Hall a dollar bill for every time I have played Ravishing Ruby, I would be broke. It is one of my favorites by him. My daddy introduced me to Tom ‘s music back many years ago and said I would like him because he told stores in his songs, some sad, some funny, but all forever enjoyable.Thank you dad for the guidance, and you, Tom, for the writing and singing them.
I asked 'Alexa' to play The Texas Tornados and within the songs played this beauty came on. It was new to me and I immediately came to RUclips to include it in my favourites list.
KEVIN SCOTT brings back fond memories of my older brother that has past on. Our grandfather used to play this song to my brother when we were very young. It was his favourite and every time i hear this song i cant help forgetting the love i have for my brother.
Wow Redding California and Tom T Hall what a mix what a way to write a song out on the road sipping on a cup of coffee thinking about things he comes up with this what a great song thank you Tom T for all the music throughout the years your songs are great
Great song......the country artists of today should listen to him and take a few lessons on what country should sound like....not the shit they put out nowadays.....
not that you should give a damn, but i think tom t is perhaps the best country singer, he surely is the best composer. i just think this is his very best song. listen to the words, listen to the country music, listen to the tex-mex music, pure skill.
Jeeze..Musta been two streets back then..Fry Blvd and Wilcox..I live in Bisbee, showed up the first time about '79 and SV was a tiny town then. Sure ain't no more.
Well never been to redding but I was hauling horses and stopped for fuel and food at a truck stop in Albuquerque and heard it for the first time. Good song, shame that can't sing or write music like this today.
I would be interested in hearing what it is about this song that 6 people gave a thumbs down to. Is it just to good a song? Has to be it right? I was like 11 or 12 when this came out & I took an instant like to it. Still one one my faves by him!
recsec, Don't concern yourself. The down votes have always seemed to be souls that wandered by and did not understand a thing. Probably high or drunk or both. Honestly, this is not important at all. They most likely do not even remember the dislike.
This is a true account of a waitress at a truck stop in Redding, California where Tom T. Hall had stopped for some coffee and a bite to eat while on tour back in the early '70"s.
Farley Hill - As Jennifer Sun stated in an earlier reply, many of his songs are of true accounts or based upon true accounts. The following songs that were written by Tom T. Hall are some that I know of that were real experiences in addition to "Ravishing Ruby": "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine", "Who's Gonna Feed Them Hogs", "The Little Lady Preacher", "Harper Valley PTA", "Salute To a Switchblade", "Ramona's Revenge", "The Three Sofa Story", "It Sure Can Get Cold In Demoines" and "The Year Clayton Delaney Died" to name a few. There are more. Search for Tom T. Hall on Google, as there are a lot articles out there on Tom T. Hall. He is a very interesting and humble individual, as was his late wife Dixie Hall who passed away two years ago at the age of 80.
I have been an admirer of Tom T. since I was a youngster. I even had a good friend that named his baby boy Clayton Delaney. Serious business. This man wrote my story over and over and over again. There is just none better.
Enjoy the presence of the Lord Tom... Like you wrote in your song Clayton Delaney... Could be that the good Lord likes a little picking too...🎵✨🕊️✨🎵💕Suz
The only reason I know about this song is my dad recorded it off of some country music video channel back in the 90s. He has been gone for 12 years now.
A great record that hit #1 on both the U.S. and Canadian country singles charts in 1973: U.S.A. #1 Record World #3 Billboard #3 Cash Box Canada #1 RPM Country Tracks Tom T. was a regular on Dean Martin's Country Music program that aired on NBC in 1973. During one rehearsal Tom was singing Ravishing Ruby (apparently with some extra gusto) when Dean hollered at him, "Take it easy kid, you got the job!" As it turned out Ravishing Ruby became a favorite of Dean's. Later on he joined Loretta Lynn & Tom T. for some singing on the program: ruclips.net/video/d58a_jRyPwA/видео.html Tom told this story on a Ralph Emery radio show that aired in January 1974.
I always sang this song to my little chihuahua, Ruby. She passed almost 4 years ago and I STILL cry when I hear it.
This brings back so many memories. Thank you Mr. Tom T Hall. You will be sorely missed
Always missed…
Really sorry to hear of Tom's passing. Always loved his songs and stories, Ruby and Clayton Delaney especially.
My fav was I Love.

I really like the mariachi-style musical accompaniment. Sort of reminds me of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
I think Ravishing Ruby sounds like a kickass lady. Tom T knew how to write 'em, and Lord, nobody could sing 'em like him.
LOVE those Mexican sounding trumpets in this song!!😃
You don't hear these good clean classic country music nowadays thanks for the upload👍👍
Just heard this song on the radio and well it just brought me here! Lol. Who is listening still in this crazy world of May 2021? 🙋🏻♀️
i am
So am I. Always will be.
Still listening in March 2024
This song takes me back to a less frightening world.
Such a good song. "She's poured a lot of hot coffee in her day" is one of the most perfect lines - perfectly delivered - in the history of music.

Pure Americana GEMS ! That what Tom T. composed ! I can listen to him all day long.
Master storyteller. This song like all his songs conjures up such vivid imagery. I have loved this song for many years.

Tom T Hall is a supreme story song writer..
Perfecamente, and that is why they call Tom the Storyteller

Great song......the country artists of today should listen to him and take a few lessons on what country should sound like....not the shit they put out nowadays.....
Completely agree with you
LOL. I absolutely agree. Tom T Hall is my my favorite songwriter of all-time and a pretty good singer... and today's music is shit.
Absolutely today's artists sound like they learned to sing by taking a correspondence course .
@@TheThomasmoon Most of them lack emotion and feeling in their voices, due to the use of autotune.
Walter Maki agreed!! 100%!!
My all time two favorite male country singers are Tom T Hall, and Bobby Bare. To me, they both embody everything country music should be about.
Tom T Hall is the master.
tolle Musik, that good old time. Erinnerungen im Alter sind das, was die Träume in der Jugend waren
Great song from a legend.
My Dad and me would play Tom T Hall when I was little and still today we love him.
Love him, down to earth my kind of persona.
One of the greatest singers of the time.

Tom T. Hall was never a great singer, but he is my favorite songwriter of all time. Your voice doesn't have to be great when your songs are this good.
Gives real credibility to his coin name of the storyteller. Love this song.
This song brings me back to Sierra Vista, AZ and playing it on the jukebox at several thirst parlors.
Jeeze..Musta been two streets back then..Fry Blvd and Wilcox..I live in Bisbee, showed up the first time about '79 and SV was a tiny town then. Sure ain't no more.

Are all Toms songs from reality?

You have come a long way from Olive Hill!
