I have often said that "all art is abstract". These two artists show how true that is.

Thank you for watching and yes, both stretch the boundaries towards abstraction. I think Soutine is massively underrated, especially the Ceret paintings. They are wonderful works.

I love your videos. You communicate art beautifully. Cheers from New York.

Thank you so much, I hugely appreciate it. Lucky you living in New York. So much great art there. I love exploring it via www.youtube.com/@MaryLynn_Buchanan, when I can't get there myself.

I haven’t been to the Hastings Contemporary for a few years, since it changed from being The Jerwood. This looks like a great exhibition, especially the Soutines. Thank you for this intro to the exhibition, I might get the chance to see this later in the year.

I very much hope you are able to go. I get the impression Hastings Contemporary went through a bit of a rocky patch after the split from Jerwood but this is the kind of exhibition that will hopefully attract people from far and wide. The Soutine works are still swirling round my mind!

    Investigating the materiality of paint.

Very much agree. I was blown away by the exhibition.Even though it was meant to be about their similarities, the differences in the way they used paint stood out for me.

Kossoff no sense of colour, muddy and limited.
