"If anyone tells you your asoiaf theory is too crazy, ask them have they ever read Night Flyers?" brilliant and so true. Great job on this video it deviates from the norm and a lot of reading and research went into it, thanks for all the effort you put in so I didn't have to. Also this research has really helped you connect some dots in your latest series minds of wolves and Robyn's. Which is by far your best series so far. kudos to you sir.
The thing is, not every bat shit crazy theory can and will be true symultaniously, every one could be on its own, for there is precident in his other writings for just as insane stuff. We know asoiaf is indeed fantasy and not distopian sience fiction for the author stated as such, but beside that pretty much everything is game. Stoneheart goal is riviving robb, jojen paste, casters first wife was his mother, the children are evil masterminds that drive humanity into self-destructive wars.... All precidented
and this is why I have so much respect for you Preston. Making the sacrifices others aren't willing to make for the good of the community. I mean I doubt 98% of the other GoT tubers have read Martin's other works. Maaaybbe Dunk and Egg and at the very most Armageddon Rag. I've noticed some new tubers popping up trying to to pass off your theories as their own. I'm all like, whoa whoa whoa
Brandon Ottinger Every time i see your profile pic i think of Dave Grohl. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and happy and shit. Although after a close inspection I noticed it doesnt look like him at all.
PureMadnezz122 lol I was gonna say I have never heard that comparison before. Though I certainly wouldn't mind it since Dave Grohl is a badass and I would be honored. Strangely enough when I was younger I used to get Rob Thomas
PureMadnezz122 ahh, that's actually a wig. I bought it for Jaqen H'Ghar from Game of Thrones cosplay but in that picture I'm actually using it for the play I was in Cyrano De Bergerac. I do professional theatre on the side when I can.
Whose the Dusky woman? Is that the slave woman Vicarion talks to while fucking? Euron is already Daario Naharis it might take too much of his time to also be that woman lol
So essentially D+D=T and Tysha was Tyrion's cross gendered mother who is using telekinesis through Shae to have sex with Tyrion and Tywin got rid of her because he Tysha and Howland promised to be friends forever and settled it with an orgy.
Ahh but you'd be wrong. For I dyed my hair and used magic to cloak my eyes for the j and the n are for Jon Targaryen. It seems my foe is most imcompetent!!
It would be really cool if you did book reviews/summaries for GRRM's other works! I have searched for some of the ones you have mentioned, but some are out of print or hard to obtain. I would really love to hear more of your insight on these stories!
In Sandkings the bad guy is established as an awful human being from the beginning. but by the end, when he's tricking his friends over to be eaten he is no longer in control. The White Maw is telepathically controlling him to feed her. The way she does this is empathy control. He starts to feel her hungry. The moral of the story being, a malevolent awful god yields malevolent awful followers that becomes their own undoing. This makes me think the that face carved on the weirwoods might be the face of a real asshole.
I just read the book. The Wild Card series is freaking awesome but at the same time really fucked up, in my opinion even more so than ASOIAF. There are so many moments in the series, where I had difficulties to grasp wtf was going on and one can't help but question the mental health of the authors. However, there are few books I've encountered that are as enthralling as this series.
I was going through a deep, deep depression when I read it and weirdly it helped me work my way out of it. It's so heartbreakingly sad and beautiful at the same time.
Great video, Preston. They all are. But a special thanks for taking the time to read all of these to get into the authors mind in hopes of interpreting all of our favorite, ASOIAF -- which you've made a pretty good case of. I find all of it interloping and related, like you do. It's said that hearing music puts you into the head of the composer, and even in books, maybe especially with GRRM, this is seems to be the case. I absolutely LOVE you videos -- i hope you continue them throughout. And i'm sure all of your fans feel this way. Keep up the good work, buddy! And again, THANKS
I dont agree with some of your theories but I really appreciate the work, intellect and effort you put in on your videos. And it gives us a different perspective of stuff. Here's to a thousand videos from you
Damn Preston, love it how you announce the title before you tell us what it is so that things aren't straight up spoiled to the audience. Unlike watchmojo who give a vague warning about spoilers for something as broad like 'top 10 plot twists in movie endings' then spoil the movie ending before you figure out what movie they're about to be talking about. I salute you for that.
Watched your videos for ages but I'm finally leaving a comment. That summing up of how a break up goes was simply sublime. Can't wait until you go ahead write a book of your own one day!
I dont agree with some of your theories but I really appreciate the work, intellect and effort you put in on your videos. And it gives us a different perspective of stuff. Here's to a thousand videos from you ^_^
I think this deserves a mic drop. Not sure if you and ASX have a friendly rivalry or a not so friendly one, but I am a fan of both series. His are more concise and clear cut, but play it petty safe. Yours are more outlandish, but are more fun and make you really appreciate the complexity of the ASoIaF world. I don't agree with every conclusion you draw (I think it's safe to say Bran's dream of drowning Winterfellians was just a metaphor for the Ironborn invasion. Also, Ramsey carried his skinning knife everywhere, and he probably had the Stark children's clothing as a tracking scent) but you also present some persuasive ideas, make me pay more attention to background characters and details, and got me to seek out some of GRRM's other stories. So yeah, thanks for the videos and I hope you keep them up. Some of my own theories: R+L=J, R+A=D, and Aegon is legit. The three heads are step siblings. (Unlikely but not impossible).Show theory/wish: "Trystane" was an imposter. Doran's real son is Myreen bound and will combine the roles of Aegon/Quentyn/Arienne.
PainCausingSamurai Alt Shift X like so many over at westeros.org think like readers of fiction, whereas Preston thinks like a writer. They approach GRRM's work like a fundamentalist Christian approaches the Bible, every word is taken literally as the word of God.To them Preston is a heretic.
+Xalxitz Alt Shift X is an occasional RUclipsr who takes fan theories about A Song of Ice and Fire and goes through evidence to determine whether they are plausible or not. He comes off as pretty skeptical and conservative in his tone, but he ends up coming down positively on some tinfoil theories (like Euron/Daario), so he's not a stick in the mud or anything. He recently came out with what can be seen as a thinly veiled diss video at Preston Jacobs about how Ser Pounce, Tommen's cat, fulfills the Azor Ahai prophesy to a greater degree than you might think. At the end there's a section about not jumping to conclusions that seems aimed at PJ. This video here seems like a response - and it's a pretty good one, I think.
Yeah, the timing of both videos is what prompted this post. I don't really check forums often, but it does seem funny how angrily people defend the details they take as fact in a fictional work, especially when questioning R+L=J. Honestly, that theory is probably true, but in an interview GRRM said that 5-10% of readers had guessed a key mystery correctly. It wasn't clear if he was talking about Jon's heritage, but the fact that 90% of people guess R+L=J after the first book makes me wonder if it's a red herring.
fenzelian I figured that Sir Pounce video was kind of directed toward Preston. I think there are some points where PJ does stretch the evidence or makes pretty big leaps with his interpretations. ASX I don't think makes too many conclusions but just lays out the evidence for and against a theory to let people make their own. I like both channels. I enjoy PJ's for really picking up all the little bread crumbs that I typically never notice myself when reading the books. He is the reason I started re-reading ASOIAF all over again which I typically don't do with anything I read. Even if he is just half right about what he has theorized it is still pretty crazy how elaborate GRRM has built ASOIAF.
I don't know why I get so excited by your videos (and I do get overly excited) when all it does it make me depressed. Based on this video, ASOIAF is going to end with someone waking up from a 9000 page bad dream.
Thanks for this. This is really enlightening. Your channel like a literature class, a writing class and a book club and much more. Its encouraged me to read more and more and to write and draw more. Keep it coming. I am interested in these enemies of yours that are against you and your theories. Whats the video where you talk about them?
Things i learned: Having the theory that Varys is in fact a mermaid in disguise probably isn't real because it's far to possible and boring, thanks Preston!
You're very close to 100k subscribers Preston and I honestly can't think of many RUclipsrs who put more effort and research into their work! You deserve it dude!!
This is infinitely useful. Martin should probably start sending you some royalties; I am only reading And Seven Times... from your mentions of it. I had wanted to read something else by him for a while, and you've saved me from reading Night Flyers. I mean I can't really judge the book without reading it, but...
its known that cats are a telephatic alien race. as expected their mortal enemy is direwolves. (and in asoiaf, both can make people see them as humans. they fooled targaryens even. but boltons knew the truth).
Haha I do enjoy your content Preston. Would you ever consider doing other theory based videos around other books/TV shows? I'm not sure if you have in the past, but I think your one of the best I've watched when it comes to this sort of content.
Hi Preston, Big fan of your stuff. Just wanted to say that I didn't watch this video because I didn't want to be spoiled for some of GRRM's other work. I feel a good video idea could be "Top 5 GRRM books/stories" or something like that Anyways keep up the good work. PS. Think about starting a Patreon, that way your fans can actually support you financially.
Love all your videos. Minds of wolves and robins got me to read: A Song for Lya, And seven times never kill man, With morning coming mistfall, Meathouse man, Nightflyers, and I've started the pear shaped man. I also have Tuf voyaging and Dying of the light checked out. I'm afraid to watch this video until I finish the rest of what I have. From the comments Nightflyers was good but crazy ending. What happens on the ship was crazy enough and then it's like wow there is still this other discovery going on with the Volcyrn! The ending delivers in crazy spades.
I like the way you explain this in a way ASOIF readers can easily understand what the shocking things are about, also the recommended videos for watching after this video are hilarious. There are videos like "top 5 most shocking pregnancy's" and "Top 20 most shocking dumb dudes 5 part 5" haha.
I fear that after the show the book series has attracted alot of mainstream readers that will indeed be shocked and dissapointed about how the book story will proceede and conclude,in your words,if half the things you say are true, and id wager its more than half, then alot of ppl will not like it,your friend from the podcast seems to be one of them
Gotta say thanks again for doin the dirty work! These are so fucked up. Loved the jokes, and I've got to say your humor was the big thing that pulled me into your channel with the pink letter mystery (plus of course your analyses of the book series I'm obsessed with). This was a fun detour and Top whatevers are always a big pull on the youtubes. Even the great channel attack of 2015 was a fun but scary detour (as a viewer, anyways). Guess I'm sayin, love the theories! Love the analysis! And love the detours! And sorry I only comment after too much fermented mare's milk
sick and twisted...awesome...i wonder if asoiaf will have a messed up twisted ending..it would be great to mess up peoples minds with setting up the great battle between ice and fire and then ending the story before the actual battle...muahahaha :P totally enjoy your stuff dude...you are on the top of a very short list of youtubers i recommend to people...huge fan! The North Remembers...
Is it strange that I love Georges work even more after that video. I know what I will real while waiting for TWOW. Maybe I can get through most of these books till then ... probably.
Are you gonna do a theory video on why George RR Martin has four first names, and how that ties in to Hodor's true identity? No but seriously keep up the great work man we love you lots :*
Having read a lot of GRRM's other stories now I think the weirdest thing about Dying of the Light is the city of the Darklings on Worlorn that was basically a giant windinstrument that caused you to want to commit suicide. That is either a masterful application of their nihilist and fatalist ideology or the greatest trolling in the universe.
Long time since original comment I know, but yeah basically. He has a way of dropping hints and breadcrumbs that aren't quite enough for you to piece it together yourself, but when the reveal comes you're like "Huh, well I guess it does explain everything." It might be bonkers, but it's perfectly consistent with the world he sets up.
Regarding Sandkings and Wild Cards (I'm somewhat lax in the rest of Martin's bibliography): Wild Cards started brilliantly and pretty much morphed into a mess. Sandkings, on the other hand, was a terrific horror story that deserved every bit of the critical acclaim that it received.
I've read all of those books/short stories, with the exception of the Meathouse Man and Wildcards. I was never sure quite where I drew the line when it came to stories, then I started reading Meathouse Man. It turns out I draw the line at Necrophilia.
Lul Llipop I've read a lot of these stories too, inspired by Preston, including Meathouse Man. That one was too creepy for my taste. I don't want to think about a dystopia where vulnerable people are taken, have their brains replaced by telepathically controlled computers and used for whatever purpose. The necrophilic masturbation part of it is just revolting though. Sandkings is a great story, though the protagonist is a moral sewer.
Jeff Ralston Sandkings was my favorite, by far. I even got that one on audio, and probably listened to it 5+ times. The ending is fantastic, where the 'kids' show up with dude's face. That got me every time! Poetic justice gets elevated to Epic proportions. Friggin excellent.
Your videos on bran got me to pick up tuf voyaging and I quickly read in the house of the worm comic, now im onto dying of the light. But after this video I think I've decided I'm going to read devil in the white city next. I'm getting georged out with all this weirdness. These books as his past work definitely shed some light on a song of ice and fire. I mean one character in dying of the light is a mix of rheagar, stannis and mance.
joe bittar Absolutely! In all of the previous stories, I just started saying "oh, thats Arya" or "oh, that's the Hound" or "oh, that's Sam." Tuf was such an incredible Tyrion/Varys highbred.
+Preston Jacobs even though I'm not finished with dying of the light yet I really have no opinion on dirk t' laren so far in. He just seems like a generic guy. Which I'm surprised with. But jaan is such a complex, nuanced character. Tuf is definitely varys, maybe with a dash of tyrion wit. But he is definitely a weirdo, shut in like varys indeed
joe bittar Wow, I didn't think of that. Golden flower, golden theta. Green hand - an ecological engineer. Its certainly possible. The Corps is talked about a bit in Dying of the Light, but also plays a big (and confusing role) in In the House of the Worm. I would love someone else to read that one because I can't really figure out what happened with the Corps.
+Preston Jacobs i read it but I really didn't get it. Since it was my first non asoif grrm read I really don't have much idea of what he was seeing when he saw the painting. There isn't really anything on the net about it. My guess was that the core made those worms but the planet was dying so they just left everything and everyone
GODS!..... (and P.S- that word wasnt a song of ice and fire reference for me because i am indian and it makes sense since we have more gods than all of GRRM's works combined :D )
You make it sound like reading those stories was a chore. I found most of those books extremely good. Just as good as ASOIAF. Yes they are weird and shocking, but you can summarize a lot of thing in GoT in the same manner. The Dying of the Light is one of my all time favorite books. One of the best is Tuf Voyaging.
I would love a video series done about absolute and blatant information George used from his previous works in ASOIAF. Not in regards to the theory of Planetos being part of the 1000 worlds, but just a collection of name, plots, etc that were clearly reused in the Game if Thrones series and which of his books it came from.
One of the things I've realized in reading A Song of Ice and Fire is that if the climax of the story isn't satisfying then I don't really care for A Song of Ice and Fire as a whole. I've changed my mind about ADwD, initially I thought it was interesting but, now... The Winds of Winter needs to really pick up the pace, or else.
these videos are a little out there but so is grrm, please hurry on the what you've been missing videos cuz those are really good!!!i don't care@ all for these videos!
Nightflyers is cosidered "tame" compared to A Glass Flower, Sandkings, and Seven Times Never Kill Man. The Glass Flower is the creepiest in my opiion. I love the "compromise" ending of A Song for Lya and Nightflyers though. I hope that kind of ending happens in ASOIAF. Dying of the Light is the bee's knees. I giggle everytime when somebody uses the word "Teyn" and grin when Garse(or any other Kaavelar character) acts like a lovesick little girl. I wonder how was it viewed at the time it was published. Every male character, save for Dirk and the Ruoark, are "married gay men"(High Kaavalar has no concept of homosexuality or marriage, I presume) and a most of them seems happy in their "marriages." They become very devastated when their "partner" dies. It is possible that Jaan killed Ruoark and made it look like a suicide because he knew(he made reasonable conclusions throughout the novel) that Rouark set the whole thing up and made him kill Garse, his "husband."
Have you ever read The Dancers at the End of Time series by Michael Moorcock? (What's this? I even blush when _typing_ that name? Fantastic! I guess I am more like Mrs. Amelia Underwood than I thought.) I love Moorcock 👀 ...oh for fuck's sake! Uh. Moorcock is my favorite 👀 -- scifi/fantasy writer, that is. Even if he'd never written Elric, he'd still be my all-time fave. 😊☺️😜😂
I actually really enjoyed the ending to "The Dying of the Light". Martin already had killed the true villain...and...we finally got to meet Kirac (SP?) Redsteel. Seriously, the whole point of the ending (in my mind) was Dirk sacrifices himself so Gwen could get away. He was most assuredly killed by Bretan. Truth.
I scream every time Preston uploads and new video! One of my all time favorite you-tubers!
IdeasOfIceAndFire Thank you, I do appreciate the great feedback!

You're very close to 100k subscribers Preston and I honestly can't think of many RUclipsrs who put more effort and research into their work! You deserve it dude!!
Oh my, a PJ's video! Better bring the popcorn and soda! Love your videos man!
Eat your heart out, Rowling. Maybe you have billions of dollars and my Hugo, but you don't have readers like these.
-- GRRM
I feel special.
And this guy is rewarding us readers these days by.....
@[*,;,*] I wish you saw me in the street, too. But that's not very likely.
This is infinitely useful. Martin should probably start sending you some royalties; I am only reading And Seven Times... from your mentions of it. I had wanted to read something else by him for a while, and you've saved me from reading Night Flyers.
I mean I can't really judge the book without reading it, but...
Did you see the video about Ser Pounce being the "Prince that was Promised"?
Just Niquol Seems legit.
its known that cats are a telephatic alien race.
as expected their mortal enemy is direwolves.
(and in asoiaf, both can make people see them as humans. they fooled targaryens even. but boltons knew the truth).
Masterful work as always man
That was awesome. Really liked the vid did thanks for reading those weird plotlines on our behalf.
Haha I do enjoy your content Preston. Would you ever consider doing other theory based videos around other books/TV shows? I'm not sure if you have in the past, but I think your one of the best I've watched when it comes to this sort of content.
Hi Preston,
Big fan of your stuff. Just wanted to say that I didn't watch this video because I didn't want to be spoiled for some of GRRM's other work. I feel a good video idea could be "Top 5 GRRM books/stories" or something like that
Anyways keep up the good work.
PS. Think about starting a Patreon, that way your fans can actually support you financially.
love the justification:
Don't judge me, it's on Netflix.
Well okay then :p
My fav shocking twist is the end of This Tower of Ashes. It's so understated in comparison to these works, but it got under my skin
I love your paragraph on his love issues. Also, anyone talking about Meathouse Men is a good thing.
I like the way you explain this in a way ASOIF readers can easily understand what the shocking things are about, also the recommended videos for watching after this video are hilarious. There are videos like "top 5 most shocking pregnancy's" and "Top 20 most shocking dumb dudes 5 part 5" haha.
Great video as always. Thanks.
Number 5 sounded a lot like the Battle of the Ice, we don't know the ending yet!
Dude! Thanks for mentioning Beauty and the Beast is on Netflix. I never thought to check, but I definitely will do that now.
GRRM really likes shock value, huh?
Not exactly there is a lot of shocking elements...but there is a lot of heart in the stories as well.
My respect for you has gone up after watching this video. Well done.
I fear that after the show the book series has attracted alot of mainstream readers that will indeed be shocked and dissapointed about how the book story will proceede and conclude,in your words,if half the things you say are true, and id wager its more than half, then alot of ppl will not like it,your friend from the podcast seems to be one of them
Keep doing it Preston Jacobs !!
You´re really good!
I always enjoy your videos, bro.
DAMN, GRRM, YOU SCARY and CRAZY~!
And sorry I only comment after too much fermented mare's milk
wow im so glad you made this
Love the vid man! And btw, error in the description. I think you meant you've been "reading" the other works Lol :P
Er…thanks for taking that hit and reading that Snodgrass book for all our sorry asses Preston. eew. Amazing work, as always.
Thanks for going deep for us Preston
Fevre Dream was excellent. I had no idea GRRM wrote a vampire novel; totally stumbled across it. I love the end
sick and twisted...awesome...i wonder if asoiaf will have a messed up twisted ending..it would be great to mess up peoples minds with setting up the great battle between ice and fire and then ending the story before the actual battle...muahahaha :P
totally enjoy your stuff dude...you are on the top of a very short list of youtubers i recommend to people...huge fan! The North Remembers...
Well, there are others, too. I find his sci-fi work very fresh and original.
Is it strange that I love Georges work even more after that video. I know what I will real while waiting for TWOW. Maybe I can get through most of these books till then ... probably.
Compared to this, asoiaf looks pretty easy😂😂
Are you gonna do a theory video on why George RR Martin has four first names, and how that ties in to Hodor's true identity?
No but seriously keep up the great work man we love you lots :*
Having read a lot of GRRM's other stories now I think the weirdest thing about Dying of the Light is the city of the Darklings on Worlorn that was basically a giant windinstrument that caused you to want to commit suicide. That is either a masterful application of their nihilist and fatalist ideology or the greatest trolling in the universe.
What would you say GRRM's best work outside of ASOAIF is?
Roy Harper A Song For Lya, hands down. Its hauntingly beautiful.
Preston Jacobs Awesome. I know what I'm reading next then :D Keep up the great work!!!
Preston Jacobs Mine too.
+Roy Harper i really like fevre dream
Roy Harper Fevre Dream is solid. He , to this day, is still planning on writing a sequel to it.
he writes this craziness well though, right? Probably to the point where you're like "oh, of course! The old downloaded-my-mind-into-a-crystal gag."
This might be your best video Preston
Regarding Sandkings and Wild Cards (I'm somewhat lax in the rest of Martin's bibliography): Wild Cards started brilliantly and pretty much morphed into a mess. Sandkings, on the other hand, was a terrific horror story that deserved every bit of the critical acclaim that it received.
Hilarious Preston. I laughed many times.
Jeff Ralston
Sandkings was my favorite, by far.
I even got that one on audio, and probably listened to it 5+ times.
The ending is fantastic, where the 'kids' show up with dude's face.
That got me every time!
Poetic justice gets elevated to Epic proportions.
Friggin excellent.
Twin-cest and You-cest 😭🤣
my favorite youtuber. with that being said, do you have a patreon Preston Jacobs ??
Thank You
I was hoping for sweet Robin is the Green ranger theory, interesting vídeo nevertheless. Ty for your uploads
MrHupo I was hoping for a Sweet Robin is Zordon theory video but alas....
Thank u for that awesome video
Jokerton Shuffle ... What ... The .... Fuck !!!! :0
Another great video Preston....I think !!
+Preston Jacobs my wife and i actually think the theta sigil of the ecological engineering corps evolve into the high garden flower sigil
joe bittar Wow, I didn't think of that.
Only thing I can say is, if you're reading Martin for shock value...
You're missing what Martin is all about 😏
Thank you Preston Jacobs for all your puns in this video. It was hilarious and horrifying at the same time.
i'll come back to this after i read... spoilers, EEK! ... cant wait 2 watch it though!
I would love a video series done about absolute and blatant information George used from his previous works in ASOIAF. Not in regards to the theory of Planetos being part of the 1000 worlds, but just a collection of name, plots, etc that were clearly reused in the Game if Thrones series and which of his books it came from.
Wow, just...wow
One of the things I've realized in reading A Song of Ice and Fire is that if the climax of the story isn't satisfying then I don't really care for A Song of Ice and Fire as a whole.
I've changed my mind about ADwD, initially I thought it was interesting but, now...
The Winds of Winter needs to really pick up the pace, or else.
NEED to know when the next "minds of Wolves & Robins" is coming out. It's Monday and I can't work right now.
I can't leave a comment! Arrggh.
You rock Preston!
Sandkings is one of the most well written short stories I've ever read.
these videos are a little out there but so is grrm, please hurry on the what you've been missing videos cuz those are really good!!!i don't care@ all for these videos!
Who is still coming back to this in 2020 cuz George R. R. Martin you so crazy....?
Well that settles it, I'm not reading any of those... "If anyone ever tells you that your ASOIAF theory is too crazy tell them to read "night flyer"
Amelia Underwood than I thought.)
I love Moorcock 👀 ...oh for fuck's sake!
Truth.
