ABOUT THIS VIDEO
I wanted to take photographs in the woods using the Bronica ETRS and a roll of Ilford HP5 and make some nice prints.
Main priority was not to get lost but it happened…again!
Enjoy!

Tim has made DeVere carriers for me, they are top notch!
When I’m looking for an ideal composition, I don’t see it more than “feel it” when it’s right! Great vid. Thanks for all your efforts and time.
A tip for wandering off the path....bring a roll of surveyors pink ribbon and tie a piece on a branch as you go. You'll always find your way out....LOL
That intro was golden! 😅
I stopped watching your show for photography tips... But i started watching it for outdoor survival tips 😁😁😁
Glad you're up to scratch now. Don't get lost
this is pure comedy!
By removing those branches, and logs around the tree, you are tempering with evidence.😲😲😲. Very nice shots, especially the fern one. I'm just fond of your videos, and learned so much. Thank you for sharing your photography experiences.
love that quote, "general woody stuff all over the floor". lol
Nice images. I used to always laugh at those folks stomping around with their Wellies on but the older I get the more I find myself wearing a pair myself. There is a line from an old movie where one of the characters is asked if he had ever had ever been lost in the wilderness. His answer was " Never been lost but I have been a might powerful confused for a week or two"
Yer can't get lost on the Isle of Wight! Keep going straight, and when your feet get wet, you'll have reached the Channel or the Solent.
They’re called ferns!
Love the video.... can't beat getting lost.... and finish off with a bottle of beer 🍺😎
Ha ha cheers Malc.
I watched it again, the print are very well, i love your philosophy of photography.
Thank you!
great images, and great job at 6:25 taking a reading, and adapting the Apature, as we know, to 'make it easy' Don't use Full open, UNLESS you are on a tripod, and can take your time; the depth of field is soo shallow with this format at low f numbers (2.8/3.5/4) that precise focus is a MUST, as the image will suffer otherwise, so to hand hold, go 1 or two stops shut, to ensure you get the shot.( as the 'press photographers' saying goes, F8 and be there!).
Old North American Indian saying, "I am not lost, my destination is lost" I know exactly where I am as I am standing there.
Great video, love the fern print . I have often wondered why everyone does ‘walk away’ shots, it looks a proper faff to do! 😆
Fun location for a shoot and that Bronica looks like a fun camera to shoot! Very nice shots!
SO glad I’m not the only one moving stuff around in the woods, I feel it’s the price you gotta pay for the shot! Otherwise it’s gonna piss me off during dev/scan process if something sticks out
If it's stuck in the ground I leave it but if it's just lying on the ground I move it. As you say, you wish you had done so when you see the picture.
That was thoroughly entertaining! 😅 Not the photography, just you trying to navigate the woods in your appropriate attire! 😂 Great stuff.
Ha ha that was a good one Roger. Not often we see you in the woods. Love the fern photo.
Spitfire Ale: Downed all over Kent, ........ just like the Luftwaffe.
I have seen it here in my local bottle shop where I live in Australia and have been tempted to try it. might have to get one now after seeing this comment.
Love spitfire ale my local brew
Looked like some great fun.
love it ..Roger ... here is a beautiful example of Athyrium Filix -Femina ..it just would not sound the same
That's a mouthful Nicholas.
PhotoShoping the scene in a practical sense at around 12minues in. Love it.
Manual cloning tool lol
Been watching your vids. Now i’m planning to get an etrsi
Ah I loved this, I think possibly one of my favourite videos of yours :)
I really like this darkprint work, i listen a lot with you, i just bough this bronica ERTS with 50/2.8 with my durst f60 will be great ! great work my friend !!!
It's a nice camera Phil. Good lens too. Have fun!
If you ever find yourself in the states...consider minnesota...we have lots of woods and lakes! Would love to go on a shoot with ya!
Cheers Rick!
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Cheers brother! Love you videos and art! You make it look effortless....if most people knew exactly what we artists will go through to get 'that shot'. LOL Keep your lens clean and bugs out of your face! I'll send ya some of my holga shots using 'Dracula" film when done.
So funny, brilliant vlog, the 'fern' photo look good, keep up the brilliant stuff Roger 😁
Thank you very much for the video. I particularly agree with what you said starting around 7:05.
Not everything may be worth taking a picture, but there's still a lot of interesting stuff to see.
No Wellies and all that nature!!! This is why I rarely go into the woods!!!
Well, to be honest Brian it's been very dry past week or so. I didn't expect any mud.
They should give you a rake and send you to California to tidy up the forest floors.
It was worth the effort, though. Shot number 9 turned out good.
this is brilliant fella. i only shoot digital and i only have a kit lense but i love a bit of macro. couple of extension tubes and hey presto a magical world of fungi and moss and bark. the woods are a great place to shoot. ive subbed your channel, thanks.
Cheers Nobby.
I've a video about a year ago using ext tubes for macro. And toilet rolls
Another great vid Roger. I love woodland shots, as it makes you really work on composition.
Insect repellent is a must as well.
Very Nice !
The 'Fern' is Bracken, or Pteridium aquilinum to give it's proper name and one of the most successful land plants being found everywhere except Antartica. Loving your channel, in fact it's now not just my favourite film photography channel, it's my favourite photography channel. Period as the Yanks say. Your style is refreshingly down to earth, but your images are good and your Cockney/Essex Boy persona is a welcome change from the wispy bearded hipsters that normally present this sort of thing. (Sorry Ribsy! but your beard is a bit fluffy)
Thanks. You learn something everyday taking pictures. And thanks for the kind words.
Your misadventures were so funny - I totally enjoyed the beginning. Also, you did get some nice shots, so the bugs and other hazards probably made it all worthwhile, eh?
I had a good walk and ramble Naomi. The pics were a bonus :)
Those shots of you moving toward or away from the camera do look interesting, although I would like to catch you on Odysee (LBRY) as well.
8:39 That car was also SCREAMING!
It was. Totally surprised me
nice photos again :) you need a geo-tracking app on your phone and look out for ticks... :/
Loved watching your development process. Thanks.
This is a really good video all the way. Also timely for me, we are headed out Saturday for a trip to a state forest in Wisconsins (USA state) along Lake Michigan (one of the Great Lakes). Will definitely be shooting woodland and lake shore photos. As alway, cheers to you mate.
Wonderful Dan. Sounds great, enjoy
You don't know what a fern's called? 😳 Sheltered youth! 🤔
Don't let the All Blacks know 😁
I was always out just no one ever told me Bill. Or I never asked probably
Just bought an ETRSi for probably far too much money. Hope to shoot as soon as it arrives!
Have fun Dane
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Thanks Roger! Been binge watching your videos this past week, hopefully what I've learned will carry over while shooting.
Excellent! Thank you!
Ahahaha, love the intro... and the rules :D.
That's the great thing about rules... there is no rule you can't break them :D.
BTW, was that a spider on your shirt there!? :)
Some wierd winged bug
I tried taking B&W photos in the woodlands as well. Unfortunately, I was never satisfied with the results. The images looked messy and flat. Therefore I switched from B&W to Color film and the output was much better. Maybe I have to try harder! :-)
I agree. Woodland colours are beautiful. And maybe that's the mess I see on the ground as I'm looking at it with black and white eyes. Interesting Odu.
Loved it m8 :-) Looks like you had loads of fun :-)
Great video again prints👍👍
Ear, a few questions...First, what kind of paper did you print on? It looks very glossy. Second, when you make a print, I've watched you doing your dodge/burning and was wondering if you have to do that same process with every print you make? I've never made darkroom prints and was wondering how you get it exactly the same with every print? Also, when you get lost, don't bother with your phone just go like the crow flies! Cheers
Thats the beauty I find... no two prints are exactly the same, close but not exact. Makes them unique. I use Gloss and Matt Papers. I like the Gloss look though. If I have a very well exposed negative I can print with no fussing. But sometimes I need to brighten and darken certain areas. Either for personal look or because the negative was out of the dynamic range. Paper only has about 5 stops of range. If my highlights and shadows are beyond that then usually I have to dodge and burn
Fabuous
Can I sponsor u a pair of wellies bro? Then you won’t have to be worried about getting your nice shoes dirty and washing them. Also, how did you do the contact sheet? I’m curious. Please share? Thanks!
I've a video on that. Have a look through my channel.
Tip #1 isn't in reference to a certain group of yt famous photographers who advertised what gear they had in a car they parked at a dodgy spot on Instagram is it?
Lol, no.
Roger, do you reckon there's much to choose between an RC print and an FB when they're both mounted behind glass? Seems you dont because you mostly use resin paper (I think). Thanks. Atb.
Fiber is more expensive Russ and takes a lot longer to fix and wash and dry that's why I use resin. But if I were to have a collection of prints for a gallery is probably do it on fiber.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I appreciate you taking the time to reply, Roger. Cheers fella. 👍🏻
Like a boss. Is there not poison ivy in England?
Ivy yes, not sure it's poisonous. I think it's just a name. Poisonous Ivy
Rule number 5: wire cutters, technically illegal, but very tempting. It seems that often the barbed wire is there to keep people out and not livestock in. Barbed wire caused the whole 'cowboy' era. Homesteaders were fencing their patch of land in, including water sources, whilst ranchers were trying to drive their cattle to market. Competition over land usage, somebody ends up dead. Even worse the dreaded electric fence !
Not knowing exactly where you are going is half of the fun. I've come out on the wrong side of the woods and thought 'Where did the mountains go?'
The green stuff are ferns or bracken, all bracken are ferns, not all ferns are bracken.
I've got to laugh at your trainers, I had mud coming over the top of both of my wellies at the same time last week, worth it though as I was 'buzzed' by ospreys; as I looked up I nearly stood on a suicidal duck which had built its nest next to a shooting butt (it was a sitting duck, ha, ha, ha ..... sorry) I missed the eggs by inches.
Great vlog, laughed my was through it.
I'd have gone the long way round if it was electric! I can'r believe how far I'd wandered off.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Electric fences make for long detours. They also lull you in to a false sense of security. You can touch it and it does nothing, then you move a foot and zap. I'd rather climb a deer fence than have to tackle one of those humming shiny things.
@@iainmc9859 I've been hit a couple of times by those at night. Hurt
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss It does beg the question 'Why were you climbing over farmer's fences at night?'
@@iainmc9859 long story. Lol. I walked into it. Public Bridal way

Ferns. They're called ferns-lmfao
Which lens did you used? Thanks

“Have a Coke and a smile.”...? You must be my age.
The walk away shots have become a bit cliche with hiker/wild life and photography channels, really not worth the effort imo :)
Doing a walk away shot while picking at the back of your shorts, that was funny.
