That jumbo package with Trente Jones and Myles Hinton as the sixth and seventh O Linemen absolutely changed the game. It was a masterful coaching adjustment to counter the devastating speed rush of Robinson and Isaac; both of whom made themselves a ton of money this game. I heard there were scouts from 20 NFL teams in attendance.
Corum was an absolute warrior this game. I can only imagine how sore he was rolling out of bed on Sunday. Though I'm sure winning and playing well helped with the pain.
Also, shout out to AJ Barner who is, without a doubt, the best blocking TE in the country. He's like having another OL on the field.
Good job recognizing Barnhart getting beaten and adjusting too
@RedWingsninetyone Yep, that's why you have good coaching. He wasn't the first and won't be the last OL to have a bad game. Rather you point that out during a win though. Just make sure you can find a new OC who can make adjustments.
McCarthy was pressured on 6 out of 10 dropbacks. He was 4/5 on those - sacked once, one incompletion, and four completions while running for his life.
After a disastrous first two series (pressured on 3/4), the coaching staff adjusted by having him throw quick passes (3x), rolling out, and using play action. There was only one dropback after the first two series where he was forced to dump it quickly (a play action).
They settled down and could have kept going with the pass game, but the run game was averaging 5ypc and the defense was holding up. So there was no need to take chances.
That was fun to watch if you like line play. Two elite units getting after it!
Penn state had some aliens
32 consecutive run plays made it an instant classic.
In the first two drives, the Penn State edge rushers seemed to have a bead run/pass and the snap count. They reacted to the snap on passes faster than any of the Michigan players.
8:35 so many on the Oline haha Bo would be proud
Im a Michigan fan since forever, but a Big 10 fan for life! I give credit to Penn St! They had a very fast turnaround! Happy to see the big tough football
44 is stupid fast
Chop is something else
I’m a Michigan fan but I’ll tell you Penn St had a couple ball players that are just world beaters , #44 , #20 ,#10 ,#23 and a couple others . Allen too . Good luck the rest of the year .
this wasn't necessarily Zak Zinter's best game, but I think he has the potential to be a mainstay on the next level. I like him a lot
at 1:12 McCarthy actually made what would’ve been an accurate throw (if not for penn states line men) on one leg falling backwards
PSU was too aggressive on defense, and michigan took advantage with their running game. A smart team.
I know the Bigten commissioner is mad right now that psu fired their OC
I'm sure Harbaugh will be given an additional suspension for Penn St. firing their OC.
Michigan v Everybody
@@mikescriver1963the victim mentality is crazy
Adbul Carter and Chop Robinson are MENACES! #33 on his way
ohio doesn't have the defense that Penn St has period.
Let's see what happens in a few weeks! I KNOW!
Wolverine mauls Lion
I told everyone grandpa will come to happy valley and smack that 4ss and he did. Lmao
A flat-out war. Penn has a great defense. Michigan is just a bit better. One of the best games ever.
No doubtz
Barnhardt needs to take 1000 blocking reps. Cannot be getting beat like that. I expected OSU to put JTT up against him to disrupt JJ. We have to do better on that end
How about JJ not dropping so deep leaving his wall of protection???
Mixing up the snap count helps too, which they started doing more. Those jumps the DE’s got on a couple were tough to block
SMASH
Hope the OL we can up its game against the likes of OSU and UGA. Go Blue!
As crazy as it is, OSU and GA don’t have defensive lines like Penn State’s. Obviously they’re still elite but they don’t have the same speed.
@@jackpackage4278Alabamas is way better than penn states. And so is Georgias.
@@christiancollier8584 Alabama has bigger weak spots than Penn State. Very susceptible to passing attacks up the seem.
@@christiancollier8584 Didn't seem like it
5 or so big plays and a bunch of 2-3 yard runs. Not dominant but good enough to win.
That's exactly what an effective ground game does. Pound it consistently then break a few.
Consistently in the second half when they needed 2 yards they ran for 3. That's a win for the offense. When they needed six yards for a first down they'd run for 9. That's a win for the offense.
@@itdoesmatteryep8822 Eh, not really? 7 of their 32 consecutive runs went for 0 or negative yards. Most were for about 2 or 3 and they punted 3 straight times.
We’re concluding only 4-5 of Michigan’s 44 rushing attempts ended up being meaningful or “big.” If only a 10th or an 11th of your rushing attempts end up being noteworthy and you still win, that just sounds like yours was the only offense out there.
Which, in this game, it was.
Michigan needs to address the weakness of the right tackle position. JJ couldn't throw because No. 33 of Penn State could beat our No. 52 nearly every time. When Maryland and Ohio State view these films, they're going to see this big time.
33 is fast, I don't think they'll face another DE like him until the playoffs.
😂😂😂😂😂You are not beating Bama with this offensive scheme🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But they did
Wtf is a “Barrow” roll? 😂 How are you gonna f*** up your own name?
barrow is my name
Penn State scored 15 points without a passing game. I’m not saying OSU will win in two weeks, but all the hubris from Michigan fans promising their team will beat them handily is ridiculous!
No one who actually watched this game can say that the PSU defense got pounded. They made Michigan send JJ into the Witness Protection Program for the majority of the game because they couldn’t stop the pass rush.
PSU’s offense had seven drives during Michigan’s 30+ consecutive runs. Do you even realize the level of ineptitude needed to do that?
Michigan was held to their lowest point total since Illinois last year. And before they were gifted a TD after a PSU 4-and-out landed Corum at the Penn State 30, they had 17. Which, with 4 minutes to go, would’ve been their lowest tally since the 2021 semifinal against Georgia. PSU’s offense bailed Michigan out.
Again.
You said PSU's offense bailed out Michigan again, but you fail to mention that this wasn't what happened last year. Michigan scored 41 points on mostly the same defense. Not sure what you're going on about.
@@Macabre215 PSU was leading 17-16 at half last year, with 7 of that 17 coming off a pick-6 by Curtis Jacobs. And then didn’t score a single point the rest of the game. Michigan, like this year, ran all it wanted to because they were the only offense threatening to score. You’re supposed to be the Michigan fan, I shouldn’t know more about your team than you do.
Alabama is going too dismantle this unathletic slow Michigan team. They are just too slow with no weapons.
