I love how much you guys respect America, it's traditions, and our people. I am so proud to be an American and I firmly believe that everyone should be proud of where they're from. Which makes me love your channel so much. I love how proud you are of your heritage but your willingness to embrace other cultures. America is called the "great American melting pot" and we wouldn't be what we are if not for Swedes, too, moving here and showing us your ways of life. I just love you both so much. Thank you for respecting our proudest National holiday and thank you for showing us yours so we can learn, too. ♥

My great grandfather also came over from Sweden. He settled during the land run in Perkins, Oklahoma. That is where my family has been ever since. I liked listening to some of my grandpa's stories. We have some Swedish dala horses for decoration as well.
If you didn't know there is a settlement town called "Little Sweden" in Lindsborg, Kansas.

A traditional fourth of July celebration is a barbeque/cook out, with burgers, hot dogs, potato and or macaroni salad, corn on the cob, some might do a crab or crawfish boil, basically outdoor cooking in a group or family lol. Later when sun goes down, fireworks.
Thank you guys for celebrating with us

GREAT JOB my favorite Swedish Muppet Chef Recky! Your choice of using the standard original sausage grave for the first one was a smart choice for your first time. The next time you can use the other kind of gravy the pepper one for example to compare to the original sausage gravy.. Thanks for festive July 4th celebration! This year has been great for Sweden formally joining NATO! CONGRATULATIONS SWEDEN!!

Usually biscuits are split in half horizontally and then the gravy is poured over top OR you can break the biscuits into bite-size pieces and pour the gravy over the pieces. I would definitely recommend adding the sausage spices that someone else linked in comments. The gravy should have a very peppery taste and then the pork sausage adds a warm spicy and fennel flavor that enhances the gravy. You did a great job though. :)

I enjoy watching you and Carol. If your stores have Italian sausage (mild or hot) can used, just remove the casing before cooking. I like cat head biscuits (that’s what southerners call large biscuits). I prefer splitting the biscuit before adding the gravy. My community decided to celebrate on Sunday instead of the 4th. We just barbecued ribs, chicken and burgers. Went outside to the front of the house at 9pm and watched fireworks (live very close). Our daughter and grandkids decided to go to the beach today (4th) and cookout and watch more fireworks.

Loved this! I used to make my biscuits from scratch but now I use the Pillsbury frozen biscuits because they are every bit as good as home made! I haven't tried the mix, but they look good too! I also don't usually make sausage gravy. I prefer making my gravy from bacon grease. For 4th of July this year we came to Idaho to spend it with our son, the 3rd of July was my 41st wedding anniversary so we celebrated a couple of days in a row. We didn't have to buy fireworks, we just sat outside and watched everyone else's firework displays! They were everywhere. lol

The CRAZIEST thing that happened one year up in the parking lot. The fireworks were up the hill and behind one of the shops up the hill, was all of a sudden a orange GLOW and then a BUNCH went off rapid fire and then the fire trucks went racing up the hill . We figured that they had an issue and it was done so all of that parking lot loaded up and lined up down the hill to exit when the fireworks started again! We along with 3-5 little kids hurried to watch . I never watched because it wasn't my thing. Instead, I was always snapping pictures of the kids faces and my late husband's while watching. That was better than any fireworks for me!

A quick way to form the drop biscuits is an ice cream or cookie scoop or dipper. I have different sizes of then. Good job. We had a cookout. I fixed deviled eggs a cherry pie and a blueberry pie and made an Elvis Presley favorite cake and I took a watermelon. This was held at my youngest daughter's home. Everyone brought food. We had baked beans. mac and cheese, baked potatoes along with hot digs and hamburgers. Other foods too.

It’s total chaos 😂😂

You did a fantastic job! Just a hint - cut the biscuits in half horizontally and put them on the plate and then ladle the gravy on top. It lets the gravy coat the biscuits a little better. I'm a Texan and I know that this recipe is a weird mix but it came out of necessity. If you only have a little flour, a little meat and a tiny bit of spice you can feed a whole table full of people. It came from our settlers who were very far away from any store where you could buy bread. The sausage gravy was a way to use up meat scraps. If you like this, I'd love to see you try chicken fried steak and eggs or waffles with chicken. We're resourceful in the US and we have so many different cuisines! What a great compliment you paid Americans on the 4th of July by celebrating with us. Thank you!

A job well done and the biscuits and gravy look tasty. Americans celebrate our Independence Day in a number of ways. Many churches, veterans cemeteries and other memorial and historic sites have services and programs to mark the occasion. There are parades during the day and many families have cookouts/barbecues and daytime fireworks. There are also concerts with patriotic music and fireworks displays at night.

The fireworks are really getting out of hand in some places. In my city in Michigan the rocket ones used to be illegal for private use, but now there are booms and bangs and explosions almost all day and night for a week surrounding the holiday. Pets, wildlife, and people with PTSD are terrified. It sounds like a warzone, plus there are injuries every year. It's awful.
On another note, I lived in a house with a tiny kitchen similar to yours for 20+ years, so I COMPLETEY understand that particular frustration! And of course cats, as much as we love them, always want to walk through when you're cooking. Lol

Good job Recky. The trick with the Gravy is it will thicken as it cools down, so you didn't need to add more heat. It didn't hurt anything that you did, but just an FYI. The Biscuits looked good. There are a couple of types of Biscuits. Those you made are called Drop Biscuits as you basically just Drop the batter on to the baking tray. The layered biscuits are a lot more labor intensive, but have a lot lighter, more buttery, and flaky texture. Both are good, and correct. My Grandma would do Drop Biscuits during the week as they were quick, but Sunday Dinner she always made the Layered Biscuits. Sunday Dinner was always a big family meal, so everyone would go over to Grandma, and Grandpa's house. The women would all help Grandma in the Kitchen, and all of the Men would be watching Football, and discussing things like Politics. I miss those days!

Your biscuits will rise more if you put them in rows of 4 all just about touching all the biscuits around them in a tight grid pattern so when they rise they will help each other rise by touching. Going in they should look like this on the tray....
    OOOO
    OOOO
    OOOO
    OOOO
There's a song young children sing at 4th of july called Yankee Doodle. The first verse lyrics are as follows...
Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his cap and called macaroni
    Yankee Doodle! keep it up
    Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step

    Ingredients
    1 tablespoon brown sugar
    2 teaspoons dried sage
    2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    ¼ teaspoon dried marjoram

Much appreciation for your honoring our 4th of July. Quiet day here in CA but this area is notorious for locals setting off fireworks late into the night and for many hours. Some are so loud and concussive they shake the bldg, set off car alarms, etc. What will tonight bring? Decades back, my ex...who was a Vietnam veteran...would head to the basement with our cats. The noise dredged up bad memories of his time in conflict.
Never had biscuits and gravy growing up in MN but have indulged similar combinations. Might have an idea as to your 'plan' which involves all the US states. Will have to see if I'm right when the time comes. Bit concerned for the welfare of Recky and your fur babies when Carol hightails it out of town. :jk:

You don't actually need to add any sausage with those gravy mixes. I mean it's all right I guess, but we tend to have them with sausage patties or strips of bacon as a side to the biscuits and gravy. Love the kitties! I'm listening to fireworks tonight whether I want to or not, you get used to it unless you are a pet in which case they get upset every year. I just finished my main tradition which was to watch the movie, "Spirit of '76" (which you can see on RUclips). It's a comedy time travel movie from 1990 in which people from 2176 try to travel back to 1776 to get info on the birth of the nation but end up in 1976 instead. It's hilarious, especially if you were like me, and are old enough to remember 1976.

If you ever make this again try cutting the biscuits in half and buttering them, then pour the gravy right over the top of the buttered biscuits.

In my part of America sometimes instead of pork we use squirrel. Glad you got to try a southern biscuit. They look great. Thank you for joining us for Independence Day.

I mowed my yard , went to subway and got a foot long pickelball sub sandwich. Came home and watch you all. Happy 4th thanks all. One time I went to a July 4th party out at the gate in Nevada that was wild...

Biscuits & gravy are delicious, as always. Glad you enjoyed!
Typically we'd probably slice/tear the biscuits horizontally and then scopp sausage gravy on top, so it sit on top or soaks into the biscuits a bit. But, however you do it, it's still delicious.
As to biscuits vs. scones. They're in the same family, but out biscuits basically just use butter and salt, and baking powder/soda or whatever, and leave out sugar/eggs. So, whereas the sugar/eggs make scones slightly thicker/heavier, biscuits are slightly lighter/fluffier and a bit buttery/savory. So, yeah, really just missing the sugar/eggs, but otherwise basically the same. Same family of small savor bread rolls or whatnot.

I watched the Tour de France at 530am this morning and need to take a nap right now. As a kid we would go into town and watch the wonderful 4th of July parade, go home and have a picnic lunch and then after dark, we would go to the roof of the house and watch fireworks from all the surrounding towns. Thank you for loving the USA! Love you right back!!!!
