Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Oscar® winner Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
Academy Award® nominee Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.
Oppenheimer also stars Oscar® winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar® nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.
The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography.
Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

Zimmer doing another Dune
Göransson emulates Zimmer's style really well, or maybe that's what Nolan wanted. Göransson was great in his Star Wars Disney+ show themes, so I'm excited for what his future holds. Cinema will need more young composers like him to replace the legendary aging ones like John Williams who just retired, and even Hans Zimmer eventually.
This is the type of movie that comes once in a century. Just 5 minutes of it gives me goosebumps, imagine what a 3 hour movie could do.

I have a feeling the film will start with flash-foward to the hearing/trials in the 50's discrediting Oppenheimer. Jumping back to his research at Los Alamos in early 40's. Back and forth as Nolan sees fit to tell the story in the most poignant way.
The way Cillian conveys emotion through different eye gestures is suffice enough to win an Oscar.

I think the sound at the end is from the beginning of “Ground Zero.” You can hear a bit of it soon after 0:00 as well.
That shift in scale by Ludwig at 4:06, how the rhythm begins to climb, the melody changing and ascending, the instrumentation then speeding up until it reaches a triumphant climax at 4:46…this music is exquisite, emotionally powerful, and exhilarating…and fits with all the breathtaking imagery. The score is going to be something special. Wow!
Absolutely! If you listen at 2:07 mark, you can hear air raid siren embedded through the music that will enough to chill you to the bone! Man i can't wait for this film and the soundtrack!

@@Blaineisawarlock Even though Hans Zimmer didn't do the score of this film, You gotta give credit to Ludwig's expertise capturing the raw emotions and epicness of his work of the films he had scored. All in all, his dedication & devotion he put his heart and soul to his musical abilities pays off and hopefully that he will win the Oscars of his extraordinary work!
I really like the way Robert Downey portrays Strauss here. He's not just a hawkish bureaucrat. He seems like a man who's genuinely concerned about the security of his nation.

You are absolutely wrong. Although the performance Robert Downy Jr. will be epic, he's taking on the role of the greatest villain since Thanos. A right-wing Republican with personal vendetta to destroy Oppenheimer's career, character, and legacy. Strauss and his lawyers will lead the era of anti-intellectualism witch hunt of liberals on the political left. This clash of Republicans and Democrats and the ensuing hearings and trials are written in history, as per the infamous red scare of McCarthyism under GOP Senator McCarthy.
You do know Strauss was a piece of shit chasing Oppenheimer because he thought he was a Communist (or at least he thought had connections with Communist cells). A bureaucrat full in psychological complexes supported by a portion of the Military-Industrial Complex.
People are not black and white but somehow this black and white footage shows them in more shades of grey than color ever could.
From the score alone, you know this movie is going to be a masterpiece

4:22 onwards just doesn't stop giving me actual shivers in my spine. The score, the framing, the color grading, the depth of field skill, the transitioning editing skill, the practical effects.
This is going to be one hell of a film.
Love the last 15 seconds with Edward Teller (Safdie) asking if the Japanese would surrender if they knew the bomb was coming, followed by a close-up shot of “Little Boy” being transported out of Los Alamos for the bombing of Hiroshima. So simple, yet so powerful.
they were warned repeatedly before but they didnt surrender (even after the 1st one was dropped they didnt surrenderd)..only after the 2nd one they surrendered
The best part about this movie is casting,every actor has their own level of giving best,and as always Nolan never disappoint us.

This bone chilling intro set the movie up for greatness. It helped explain Oppenheimers reasoning for both condemning and the construction of the bomb. On one hand it would end the 2nd world war and force the entire planet into submission from war yet risk the destruction of mankind upon his soul.

@@dosomestuff1949 I can see how that is one perspective. Oppenheimer, like any man, had an ego and desired greatness. But I feel the fear of the Nazis developing nuclear weapons before Americans was the greatest driving force. Oppenheimer was a strident anti fascist, for obvious reasons. Historical context informs us that at the beginning of WW2 that German scientists were farther along in the area of quantum physics. The Americans could not have known that the Germans would not seriously pursue the development of an atomic bomb. That decision was probably mostly driven by the happy circumstance that the Germans did not have aces to enough fissionable material to construct a bomb. Had that not been the case, Oppenheimer may not have been the first to develop the A-bomb.
Regardless, history records his efforts to prevent the development of the H-bomb and place all nuclear technology under international control. Hardly the work of an egomaniac.

It's the ones that make you stir up at night, the ones that are thought provoking on a grand scale, the ones that make you feel something visceral and chilling, those are ones worth seeing.
I know it was an important moment but Dude's filmography is such that he can make any event feel so grand

Oppenheimer looks so good. It's been forever since I've been excited for a new movie. From Napoleon to Oppenheimer, the fact historical movies are returning in a movie market flooded with Superheroes and legacy media is a good sign.
Holy christ Ludwig is firing at 100% . So powerful and emotionally heavy. People say Avatar is immersive. The combo of practical effects, 70mm imax and a nolan score is a recipe for the most immersive theater experience for me.

Wow, at 0:16 that crisp wide shot in the full 70mm black and white IMAX, literally gave me chills.
Probably one of the most beautiful pieces of cinematography ive seen in a long time.
There's something about ultra High resolution black and white that brings out incredible sharpness and detail like nothing else.
Nolan's really outdone himself with this one, Oppenhemimer is certainly going to go down as one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of our time.
This film is getting a lot of controversy over the fact that it can be quite slow and boring at parts, but I'm 15 years old and I've seen it twice already, and am going again in 70MM imax next week, and I can say for a fact this is a masterpiece that is not to be missed

I was studying/working at UC Berkeley when the Oppenheimer crew was on campus filming. The only thing we knew is that all of the filming trucks were there for a Christopher Nolan film on Oppenheimer. I’ve been waiting ever since. It looks like it will be a cinematic event that could define an era of filmmaking.

My dad loaded bombs for the Pacific theatre. He described a "civilian" at the base on the day his "special operations team" loaded a single large bomb onto a Merchant Marine ship rather than a military ship as the norm. Port Chicago was the hub of munitions being sent from southern California to defeat the Japanese Empire. He was sworn to secrecy and only disclosed this to me in his last few months of life. He described Oppenheimer as a small frail man, that smoked a pipe , wore a suit, and leather "pork pie" hat. It was the only time in his 4 years of service and loading munitions that a "civilian" was ever on the docks, and overlooked the loading of classified munitions. Dad didn't know if he loaded the atomic bomb, but he knew that 2 weeks later Hiroshima was dust. He also knew that the naval convoy was a deliberate decoy since the Japanese had numerous submarines off the coast of California.

The actor Cillian Murphy deserves an award for his portrayal of Oppenheimer. This is a great movie and needs to be watched on a BIG screen in a theater.

This will go down as one of the remarkable feat in the history of Cinema. I was completely blown away by the screenplay, dialogues, music and especially the acting performances of all the characters. Robert Downey Jr just proved why he is regarded as the OG.
the music honestly isn't my favourite i've heard in a nolan film, byt i've never not only in a nolan film but in general ever seen a entire cast give brilliant performances NO ONE let nolan down in acting-wise

Saw it first day, first show. This is a masterpiece. The kind of serious cinema that we need more of.
This film looks absolutely incredible. What really moves me though is that there is a real life story being told here. That is truly terrifying and awe inspiring. I can’t wait to see it told in this fashion.
This is something that will change the film industry forever. The way this movie is portrayed in such a thrilling way in these previews and trailers is itself so amazing.

Just watched Oppenheimer in theaters and I need to watch it again. It was incredible, bravo Nolan!
The film introduction, the bomb test climax, the post-atomic bomb rally, the last 20 minutes of Oppenheimer's trial and most of all, the ending. That ending is so captivating and it demonstrates real horror to the audience, something that the horror genre of filming fails to deliver nowadays.
Yup exactly I’m seeing it again this Saturday in IMAX but not in 70mm IMAX like I did for my first showing they sold out quick but happy I saw it firstly the way Nolan intended Truly the best movie theater experience I’ve ever had. 😊

Stellar cast, incredible cinematography by Hoyte Van Hoytema, yet another masterclass thriller music composed in a Nolan film, mind-boggling editing and sound design, breathtaking photography, but most importantly in my opinion, the practical effects showcasing the true power of an atomic bomb, and these... are all I need to make sure that Christopher Nolan has once again proven to be one of the greatest film directors of all time for probably the 8th time in his magnificent career.
As a movie, this looks eerie, surreal, incredible, gripping, thrilling, haunting, powerful, and altogether gripping to the mind, body, and soul from start to finish as a viewer. Bewildering. To think that this happened 78 years ago, and amidst the nuclear conversation of today, makes it all the more scary.
Yes the scary thing is the themes and danger and tension that were present during the manhattan project back then can even to an extent be found in the modern day, but with a new potentially even more destructive thing: AI

The first movie I've strongly anticipated the release of in a VERY long time! I only pray "Oppenheimer," along with Ridley Scott's forthcoming "Napoleon," will reignite popular interest in the historical epic and hail a revival of that long-dormant film genre!
This movie is almost out and this 5 min. clip alone along with Ludwig's exceptional score are in my head all the time. Talk about what ART can be when executed perfectly. Nolan is yet again going to outdo himself ! The world...is not ready.
