    I am still catching up (on lesson 96) but I watched this and was able to follow about 90% of it. (There was a bit of vocabulary and two more verb forms I haven't seen, but on the other hand I already knew ahav/ohev/ohevet from elsewhere, and I've studied the Joseph story and read scholarly articles on the possible translations of k'tonet passim, so I went in ready for those words).

    It has been a long journey to here. I am very impressed with the goals, the efforts, your knowledge, talents and fluency. Thank you so much for making this available as you have. I love the different approach to the classic, grammar, vocab style and appreciate the repetition. I had one thought and you may have already considered the musical side of this as I percieve you do not lack in that area either. Overnight I listened to psalm 98 then thought perhaps reviewing a psalm, as a song and chasing it through as a future lesson.

    Hi Beth (or anyone else who knows!), please may I ask - I am not quite sure why "Long live the king" and "Let there be light" and "Stand David before me" have a special verb tense יַקְטֵל and don't just use the normal commanding verb tense צִוּוּי ? At first I thought יַקְטֵל was reserved just for negative commands. I can't work out why the 3 examples here are different from normal positive commands and why they don't use צִוּוּי. Thank you so much!!! Loving the videos, and my elderly Mum still loves to watch little Naomi!

    • @AlephwithBeth
      @AlephwithBeth  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Caroline! These יַקְטֵל forms are called "jussive" in English and they have a meaning like "may it be" or "let it be." It's softer than a straight command צִוּוּי form, and often is used to declare a desire for something to happen when you may not have the power to actually command it (of course God saying let there be light is an exception there). So a literal translation of those examples you give might be "may the king live forever!" "let there be light," "let David stand before me"

    Hola buena tarde, tengo una duda con respecto con una serie de palabras, y quisiera saber si me pueden ayudar para entender como se leen y como funciona esa regla gramatical. las palabrs son las siguientes:
    1- א"כ
    2- משא"כ
    3- ז"ל
    4- הקב"ה
    5- א"נ
    6- הני
    7- דהא
    Como se puede ver la mayoria tienen en comun esas tipo "comillas" y no se como se deben de leer esas palabras, la ultima palabra דהא esta dentro del contexto de "בראשית דהא התורה לא נתנה לישראל". De anteman les agradezco el tiempo que se tomen para contestarme. Saludos!
