In Asia, Longines is really respected as a watch brand, epically in China and South Korea. Because it was one of the first watch manufacturers that launched to Asian markets.
Back in the WWII period, a lot of Swiss watches were imported and issued to officials and military officers in Korea, like IWC, Eterna and Enicar, and of course, Longines.
Longines were mostly issued to higher rank officials. That's what I heard, but probably true.
You can still find a lot of old vintage posters of Longines, some of them are pockets watches.
And also from what I heard, the brand was positioned as an alternative to PPs back in the 30s to 50s. Until the Japanese stepped in and......well......

Beautiful piece. My father wore a Longines and so the brand has sentimental value to me.
I have his watch in my watch box and always see it when putting on another watch.
Longines have always had great design language. Great brand with storied history.

Same here, I have my grandfather’s Longines Sports Chief in my watch box and I occasionally wear it as a dress watch, it’s a nice timepiece with a minimalistic silvered dial and no date.

Longines is still underrated. I have 4 of them and they are incredibly accurate, including my 66 year old one, which still runs at +2 seconds a day!!

I believe the reason Longines, does not get a lot of coverage, is that they are a established brand, and those of us who have collected for a while know of Longines, and which models and references we want. So doing videoes on them, is not really needed. Longines is 200 years old. It is kind of like a base 911 Carrera 2. Most of the people who get one, already know what it is.

Hodinkee reviewed this ages ago, together with the non-chrono sector dial version.
Longines is one of the highest selling brands, so I wouldn't call it underrated.
Size is a bit too big for the style of watch.
Worth getting when it gets to $2,000 or under on the 2nd hand market. Overpriced at $3,300.

Stunning watch and nicely presented, Chris. Longines does lack for coverage but they still sell twice as many watches as Rolex :) Makes them a more relevant brand for most people, especially as they cost much less. Another chronograph beauty from them is the Big Eye which I enjoy immensely and wears a bit smaller than this even if it is actually a bit bigger (7750 based). Not sure on the finishing quality comparison with Grand Seiko. My Spring Drive watch is quite a step up from these. That said. for a balance of quality, heritage and price, Longines can't be beat.

    Hey there,
The reason this didn't get a lot of coverage, though there were some articles on places like Hodinkee and ABlogToWatch (if I recall correctly), is because after Longines announced it (along with the non-chronograph Tuxedo Small-Seconds version) it wasn't available for purchase for months. So long in fact, they actually removed it from their website for a period. Even after it became available again, it was still very sparse and all the hype for it had died. Not to mention the price is a little high (3400$ as of writing) compared to some of their own chronographs. i.e. The Big Eye in steel (3000$), the Record Heritage Chrono (which has the same movement, is COSC certified, gold plated applied numerals, and has a display caseback -- 3125$) even if the Tuxedo dial is GORGEOUS.
Source: Wanted one the moment they were announced, and tried to hunt one down for nearly a year without success. Ended up with the Record Heritage Chrono instead.

Nice review on this great looking watch. I think the movement is a modular chrono so the subdial tracking the minutes may not switch over in synch with the chrono seconds hand. Looks great with a tuxedo dial but the lugs seem to be quite long. The profile also shows a tall architecture above the pushers but the modular construction, long lugs, and aesthetic above the pushers are IMHO the only negatives. Pluses are great balance on use of blues, blacks, and cream...I think this is stunning; execution of design that looks to be punching well above its price; and great attention to the dial with different hands for the running seconds and minutes subdials (also see the polished bevels around the sundials, and restrained use of only "Longines" on the dial; love the confidence this imparts). Take a step back and I am seeing thoughtful attention to detail and love that creates balance and timestamps this piece as a 1930s homage from which it came.

I think the Longines brand is very popular just maybe not so much in the US. They have an incredible history and a back catalogue that is truly huge. This model is a prime example of using that heritage but with modern day production and a finish that is arguably above its price point. Although this piece is not for me I do like it and appreciate the design. If I could make a suggestion for another Longines or two to review take a look at the 3 hander Tuxedo and the Sector Dial watches. For an easy to read chronograph I would also suggest the BIgEye (OK it's a tad Picasso but really is super easy to read at a glance, heavily modified Valjoux 7753with a column wheel within). For value for money for the number of complications the Master Collection Annual Calendar L2.673.4.78.3 would be very hard to beat. Many thanks for sharing.

I like Longines, particularly the Dolce Vita & Heritage Chronograph but....saying they have the same or better finishing than Grand Seiko is hard to defend. GS applies a black polish (by hand!) for each case in addition to other polishing techniques for the case flanks and bracelets. Longines offers almost exclusively high polished cases.

I love everything about this watch, except the side profile. The bezel section plus the sapphire is about same thickness as the mid case, which proportionally looks really strange to me.

Just an FYI, Longines is pronounced without the final "S". You can't really know it if you don't speak French or did not inform yourself, but considering how many times you pronounce it, I thought I would let you know :)

I think you should see this in person. I would buy this in a heart beat if I got the money. But they really need to put a nice bracelet with this, most probably the sector bracelet would be perfect for this, otherwise the strap bring the watch down. I guess with such movement (column wheel, vertical clutch, silicon hairspring, 60h power reserve) and also such dial and steel hands that are beveled/blued, they might cheapen out the strap that came with it.
