    the mavs wasn't even favored to come out this series, meanwhile over in the east the Miami heat was favorite to win the championship. I hate how people didn't give Dallas the credit they deserved for smacking LA and MIAMI that year. I'm not a Dallas fan but I respect great runs and underrated teams, who would of thought at the beginning of the season the mavs would have won it all????? especially with all the lebron, wade and bosh talk and this laker team who won the championship the previous two seasons. I take my hat off to the 10\11 mavs to this day and they proved the Miami heat was over hyped by the world

      I'm a diehard Mavs fan and you couldn't have stated that better. I was real happy for the 3 LEGENDS on the Mavs that year that won their first ring. (Dirk, Kidd, Stojakovic)

    • @whetherMANE
      @whetherMANE 7 лет назад +7

      is that what's good in the streets? I was happy for them to! I'll add Jason terry and Shawn Marion to that mixed also...you and your fellow mavs fans deserved it, your mavs made a special kinda respectable impact upon me. All I could do is brag upon the team and congratulate them. I have never appreciated a great run so much as I did the mavericks, which brought my love for NBA basketball stronger. I'm a city of Chicago fan but I respect other teams that are under dawgs! The mavs showed their ass off through that historic run and I couldn't be more happy for y'all!

    You could kinda see a blowout like this happening because for the first three games, LA was so focused on just making Dirk beat them and he WAS, haha! Phil Jackson finally just said, "hey, let's force him to pass the ball out and make the rest of the team beat us," so they did, BIG time!

    This Dallas team pioneered this spread offense- shooting nba style that we see every team doing today. Ball movement, defense, rebounding, and having pure marksman spread out. The 2011 Mavericks were one of the best teams off all time, no other team in history was as versatile on both ends of the court all the while maintaining a level of excellence that was unprecedented. I was a Lakers fan all my life and even I couldn’t help but respect and admire what Dallas did that year. When every other team was busy forming super juggernaut teams, Dallas stuck to fundamentals and hitting shots. No selfish superstars, who ever was open was going to get the look, that simple.

      I have to say this. This Mavs team was not as good on paper as the 06-07 team. They got toasted because instead of playing MavsBall, Avery chose to play Nelson'sBall. But teams that win championships are not necessarily that good on paper. This team exemplifies that. See also: '88 Dodgers and '07 NY Giants among others.

    The game that the media refuses to talk about to save Kobe’s legacy

    • @calamorta
      @calamorta 2 года назад +1

      Kobe had multiple bad series individually and much of his career is overhyped by a large fanbase. Even his winning peak wasn't as great as other greats. And while I do think he's at a top 10 player ever level, I can easily see him out of the top 10.
      Wilt, Bill, MJ, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem and Duncan all had more impressive resumes imo (and there's no particular order).
      Wilt: a basketball God who managed to win rings during the Celtics' era etc;
      Russell: greatest winner and the man who managed to win more MVPs than someone like Wilt (which shows the massive amount of respect his peers had for him) etc;
      MJ: MJ;
      LeBron: LeBron;
      Bird: ROY against Magic, 3 MVPs in a row during Magic's era, same amount of finals MVPs, ~10 healthy seasons and 10 all-NBA, 3 rings during the greatest Lakers dinasty ever etc;
      Magic: 5 rings, 3 FMVPs, 3 MVPs etc during Bird's era etc;
      Kareem: Kareem. Honestly, super underrated. One of the greatest peaks ever, won FMVPs as a young player and then as a veteran, underrated defensively (some people talk about him as an one trick pony) etc;
      Shaq: only dude who eliminated MJ in the 90s, 3 FMVPs in a row, deservedly made the top 50 players ever list as a young player (shows how scary he was) etc;
      Hakeem: only dude to win DPOY, MVP and FMVP in the same season (next to MJ), worst team to ever win a ring was his Rockets (6th seed iirc), 2 DPOY and one of the greatest defenders ever, 2 FMVP, *ARGUABLY* the greatest big of a generation full of great bigs (Ewing, Robinson, Shaq) etc. Honestly ridiculous how little praise he gets;
      Duncan: all-star in his first season, same 5 rings as Kobe but with 3 FMVPs and 2 MVPs (so more FMVPs and more MVPs), championship level for nearly 20 seasons, all-NBA from his early 20s to his late 30s, an insane peak that's overshadowed by the slow era and lack of flashy moves, face of one of the greatest dynasties ever, his best team mates were never as praised as Kobe's (Kawhi wasn't 2019 Kawhi back in 2019) etc. Duncan HAS a case as the best of his generation, but most people completely ignore it because of Kobe's flashy moves and the LA spotlight...
      Duncan and Hakeem are often ignored by people when they're making a top 10 list and I just think it's unfair with them. Of course Kobe has merits and he deserves to be up there with the absolute best to ever play, but his legacy is far from making him a top 5 player, let alone a GOAT conversation (his fanbase usually puts him there)...
      And in 10 or so years, I can see this top 10 changing but not because of my views on Kobe, but because of Giannis and maybe Curry and Luka. Giannis is on pace of becoming the greatest PF ever (Malone and Dirk are very underrated, not to mention Barkley, KG and obviously TD) and he's already one of the most accomplished players ever before becoming 27; Curry has changed the game like no player in decades and his legscy might give him a case as the greatest PG ever; and Luka is a *basketball* HOF even before playing a single game, has multiple playoffs moments while carrying a bad team against much better ones, shi ton of TDs and all-time great scoring numbers in the playoffs.

    • @calamorta
      @calamorta 2 года назад +2

      In my opinion, there's a clear top 4:
      1- MJ
      2- LeBron
      3- Kareem
      4- Magic
      After that, things get a bit blurry. Wilt, Bird, Bill, Hakeem, Shaq and TD all have great cases and some absurd peaks, but with some weaknesses. Either longevity, multiple all-time great post season moments, both offense and defense at all-time great level and/or overwhelming accolades.
      After these 6, I can think of Kobe, Curry and Giannis as borderline top 10 players (if Giannis can keep playing at this level for ~7-10 seasons and getting more accolades).

      @@calamorta it isn't just fans that put him top ten, I'd say ESPN , TNT etc have him top 10. But please say kobes stats, he also has a lot of all stars, and had a 81 point game. He played against the "super teams"!? Of Spurs / Celtics having 3 all star caliber players. 5 rings, MVPs/ fmvps ( don't remember how much) but I can't persuade you. I feel like people forget that the west was very competitive as you don't know whose in the playoffs until it starts. ( I didn't watch much east) but Houston had Yao / mcgrady, you see dirk / Kidd,. Etc Kobe would carry the Lakers to the playoffs without Shaq / gasol. I'm his fan cause he stayed 20 years with the Lakers. A feature very few can / will do.

    One thing I've paid attention to since 2008, if the lakers lost to another team in the playoffs, then that team ended up either making the finals or winning the championship and it's happened in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2021. The Mavs won it all in 2011, the Thunder made it to the finals in 2012, same with the Spurs in 2013, and the Suns in 2021.

By this time I had left my primary job and was now working for both the AAC arena and the Texas Rangers baseball club. The Rangers had a game this day and they paid more. I opted to work for them. There would be more playoff games to work. GUH! As I would walk past the bars that had the game on, I couldn't believe what I was seeing (and I couldn't stop that much to watch). It was dubbed the Mother's Day Massacre. I HATED this game. I have no IDEA why I'm watching this. On the other hand I got to see the Mavs got to the finals and see 3 of those games in person.

    (20) 3 pointer massacre on the Lakers. When the Lakers get eliminated in the playoff, its always a massacre of somehow in the elimination games. Examples: Pistons dismantle them in 2004. Spurs crushed them 2003. Suns blew them out two straight years by at least 20 pionts. Celtics beat them by almost 40 points in 2008. Thunders knocked them out by about 15 points. Lakers are great winners. BUT when the Lakers go out, they always go out not fighting but always in humiliation.

      The difference between a Kobe and a Jordan lead team. Jordan lost one game 7 by a blowout because of Pippens migraine...and that shit never happened again. The Bulls never quit...biggest examples when they were down 0-2 vs the Knicks and when they came back against Portland in game 6. If those were Kobe teams they lose those games and the series. But Jordan kept fighting.

    You know, people give GSW all the credit for changing the game but I think the game was already starting to change here. These Mavs showed that 3 pt shooting was important. I've watched the NBA since 2007 and I used to always hear "you can't win a championship with jumpshots" and the 2011 Mavs proved that wrong. Then came Miami but shortly after Miami came the Spurs (amazing 3pt shooting team) and then the Warriors of course.
