- Our "medley" cover of MOKA's "Lilium" (Elfen Lied) and Yoko Kanno's "The Real Folk Blues" (Cowboy Bebop).
Happy Spooktober! We're willing to bet you probably didn't see this mashup of two drastically different anime, did you? Haha, well, we admit that the idea for putting these two together was more of a "what if" than a carefully and deliberately planned out venture, but the themes work so well with each other that we couldn't pass up the coincidence. Also, being that it's Halloween season (at the time of this video upload), I'd say Lucy is a good candidate to set the mood... Regardless, after playing these two songs for nearly 10 years now, here's our first recording of the Elfen Lied opening, "Lilium", and another rendition of the timeless classic, "The Real Folk Blues". We hope you enjoy! Oh, and watch out for stray vectors...

We all know that Pat's incredibly good with the sax, but can we just recognize how good Ben is on the accordion? That takes some skill!

Did not expect this at all. Really loved the jazz rendition, by far my favorite anime soundtrack !!
Ok, a few things:
1) You guys are truly killing it with these duo release. And whoever's idea it was to mix Lilium and Real Folk Blues? Genius.
2) I can't wait for covid to be over so there'd be a chance to hear Real Folk Blues by you guys with drums and a full horn and string section.
3) Big props to you, Pat, for your sultry Sax skills, but Major props to Ben who plays the Accordion with the skill of a seasoned Concert Hall Organ player.
Bonus) As the resident Oldtaku, most definitely 90's anime did it better. There's just something that 90's anime had that today's anime seems to miss; though I can't quite put my finger on it...

Why can I remember Lilium almost perfectly if I haven't watched the anime or listened to it's opening in about 8 years? wow...
Also, The Real Folk Blues and Gotta Knock a Little Harder are my favourite songs from Cowboy Bebop.

Both cover were great man. Lilium is still one of the sadess but power songs ive ever heard in anime and you guys killed it. Plus my god Real Folk just was funky as hell. Keep up the good work.

I'd never heard Lilium before this cover, but god _damn_ does it still send chills down my spine with how amazingly done this cover is. The emotions are portrayed so clearly and played so beautifully that's it's kinda astonishing. I always knew you two were really good, but wow. I love how the transition is done too, and how Real Folk Blues is done so extremely well too. I dream that I can one day get on both of your levels as a fellow musician eventually.

The way you make the sax sing really matches a lot of the intonation from Mai Yamane. The wailing sadness undertone really shines beautifully here! :D
The Lilium cover was very beautiful and gave me instant goosebumps, but I would've swung a *hair* less in one or two places.

I like 90's anime but we have some good content coming out that wouldn't have been as well delivered then; take Mob Psycho 100, Gurren Lagann, Violet Evergarden, every other KyoAni show lol. Though we find ourselves revisiting classics as a testament to their quality, dunno.
