- Our live cover of "Guile's Theme" from Street Fighter II, featuring special guest Carlos Eiene (insaneintherainmusic)! Originally composed by Yoko Shimomura, and this arrangement by Patrick Bartley. Recorded live at Black Cat LES in New York, NY on December 1, 2019.
SONIC BOOM! Whenever you hear this theme, you know exactly what time it is - time for old memes to resurface. No, but actually, this song has become the quintessential fighting game anthem, and everyone who's played any fighting game - even some of those who haven't - recognizes this classic from Street Fighter 2. To make things better, when Carlos messaged us saying he'd be coming down to NY asking if the session was happening that weekend, of course we said, "You wanna sit in?", and we decided that this tune would be perfect to showcase him. We're super happy and grateful for Carlos offering his time to come jam with us (and come over to play some video games, too). The whole band is pumping on this one, and considering we barely had time to rehearse it, we're pretty impressed with how it came out. We hope Carlos can join us for another video in the future! What's your favorite Street Fighter, and who's your favorite character?

This would be the theme song if Guile hosted a late night talk show.
I was about to say this and had to check if (and I assumed) someone had already said this. Spot on!
epic! 🤣
Flashkick Tonite with William Guile
And NOW WELCOME TO THE STAGE!!!!......GUILE!!!!
Who would be his sidekick? I can't see Nash or Abel being his hypemen, LOL.
This makes me want to go home and be a family man.
😂
Even chun li has no choice but to be a family man, guile is just to AWESOME

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance....tho.

Yo @insaneintherainmusic I'm such a huge fan of your covers and seeing u murder this track with @J-music ensemble is like seeing a baby dragon in 2020 😁👍
Just checked out the 8 bit big band with you as a guest. Wish you would have played this Guile cover there!
The tone on your sax is beyond gorgeous. No one has ever played that clean oml
You smashed it, bro!
The guy on the drums is ready for an anime marathon.
"I'm just getting warmed up!"
*smoke clears to reveal The Drummer sitting behind his drum kit defiantly*
LOL
@@thankyou329 Ba...bakana!
pure enjoyment in his face
Guile, now in retirement, 20 years removed from his days as a fighter listened to this rendition of his theme song. It is rumored that he wen't into his back yard and executed a picture perfect Flash Kick.
His hair was perfect too.
His tank top still as green.
His military comb beamed an immaculate flash of light similar to a sonic boom, as he groomed his hair in the most American Victory Stance ever witnessed in the country's history....
::sonic BOOM::
thumbing his profile grinning
Shout out to Yoko Shimomura for writing most of the music for SFII, she is a legend!
Seriously. I kept hearing about the lack of women in the gaming industry and find out some of my favorite franchises are composed by women. Michiru Yamane is the lead composer of Castlevania too. From that perspective, its a damn shame there aren't more. They've shaped our lives.
Just found out women also compose the music for the original Legend of Zelda Links Awakening ruclips.net/video/pfvk6CJ3v34/видео.html ~~~
Shout out to you for pointing that out. I would of never known.
@@Krystalmyth There's never been a lack of women in the industry, they've simply been occupying the positions that women generally appreciate the most. Dev is not one of those positions, music and drawing, storytelling, on the other hand... we just have to do a little research.
I was a man that did it. You're Just a lunatic.
To me, the bass has always been the unsung hero in why this is one of the best SF songs there is. Most covers don't get the bass line right. This cover had the bass and so much more, so dope!
I agree! A sound clear, deep and surround!
Bass is killin it!
so true
I want to see the covers you talkin about bc the ones i look are decent or very good...Don't forget it's Street Fighter 2's theme in which the bass is very very percussive bc a lot of slap and ghost notes. Here i feel more like the theme from Street Fighter 1 which has no slap in it. Certainly due to upright bass, sound is more round etc...
Anyway they nailed it and its eargasm ^^
Correction: Actually i was talkin about the Super Street Fighter 2 theme from 93...It's a bit hard to find out because there are a lot of different versions according to which game it is and it can be different according to the platform too.
Sorry if i sounded a bit wrong ^^
The drummer's skill is over 9000!
He's got godlike skills, especially on the Jazzy NYC '99 cover
Indeed!
indeed, ive got pure enjoyment watching him
Wrong franchise... 😜😜😜 On the real though, why haven't we heard of a Street Fighter vs. DBZ game as yet?
dont hate on the sax man
*_YOU WIN!_*
*_...PERFECT!_*
Deep State represent!
Guile's Theme is simultaneously the happiest and saddest song at the same time.
Gotta love that drummer, Norman Edwards (@normanedwardsdrums)
His beat, his shirt, his enthusiasm!
He is great
Hell yea
Makes me proud to be American ... and I'm English.
Yea you get it!
Joe Baron LMFAOOOO
When I first heard this cover I cried a single tear while saluting the American flag.
Lmao
same here! And I'm brazilian btw...
When you're turtle crouching but need to groove before the flash kick.
Come on youtube algorithm, do the thing.
Personal Green it did the thing
As a tenor saxophonist, I just wanna say I'm most impressed by the drummer. Dude sat in the pocket the whole time. Nothing flashy, no odd-timed fills--he just grooved the whole way. You can tell by his presence dude's a giving musician. Absolute rock and the rhythm section tightness in general is probably overshadowed by the horns. Shouldn't be, tho!
everybody was so good but for me, the bassist got it all. he's the backbone of this song
Just like the original tbh, one of the best basslines there ever was
For real, I just wish I could make out the base a little bit more clearly
You are correct

Can we all just give one up for the bassman at the back real quick? I see you bruh.
Oh and guitar guy, I see you too. Thanks for adding extra meat to this fine arrangement.
Do I even need to say it's fire? Do I even need to say how much this slaps? I think it speaks for itself lol

The part @2:00 where Carlos plays a lick and gestures to Patrick as if to say "how do you like them apples?" is pure joy 😹
Not many tunes can make happiness rise so quickly, with such tones. Thank you guys for deep diving my memory bank, again. Brings tears of joy.
This is so fly. Brian get me back to my youth.

Whatever the drummer's salary is, is too little
You guys are true beauties. Thank you for this fantastic gift ❤️
Awesome, one of my favorite videogame songs, i love how you guys pl@y , you guys rock , congratulation
Street Fighter has the best score of all the fighting games. Absolutely beautiful.
Can I just say that I really appreciate whoever mixed this? The guitar often gets lost in jazz bands with this arrangement whenever they're not soloing, but Joe is doing some really interesting stuff in his comping and I'm really glad that comes through on the recording.
Spectacular; jazzy covers are great!...
great job guys superb
Jazz goes with everything!
This song is literally goes with everything
AWESOME!!
Jesus, there need to be a studio version of this!
Agreed. Needs more BASS ❤️
