I really like the concept of the individual emeralds having unique abilities. They are the “chaos” emeralds so it makes sense for them to have a bunch of weird random powers and it makes them feel less like Mcguffins.
Actually the sonic fandom technically guessed this before sonic superstars was even revealed because people already made concepts of sonic using one of the chaos emeralds like flame sonic, nature sonic, water sonic, and etc.
Even as far back The Adventure of Sonic the Hedgehog, not SATAM the other one, the emeralds were each unique. Heck, even in Sonic X it was slightly implied the emeralds had powers such as the green one making machines temporarily sentient and the red one granting visions.
I agree. It's stated that even individually, Chaos Emeralds possess tremendous power, so it's nice to actually see that concept come to light instead of having to collect them all to finally harness their energy.
FOUND THE TRICK FOR THE GREEN STAGE! You want to go for rings first - Once you have 45-50, then go back down and swing on one or two blue spheres while the emerald is on a downward trajectory. Then boost up before it starts rising again and work on intercepting it as it rises
I like this . most of the ways to get a giant ring requires an ability to be already held, meaning depending on if you are great at that special zone, you might have to return another time and you only technically get one shot due to it recharging with the star post
I think since they gave modern sonic give some unique abilities to him and a unique combat system i think they decided to give classic sonic some updates and his own unique abilities which is good

6:16 this chaos emerald sucks. So I’ve been having so much trouble with getting it and then I was about ready to lose my dang mind by the time I finally got it. At the end of Most of my attempts of getting it, the chaos emerald was going WAY too fast that I couldn’t even catch up to it.
Is it possible to go back to one of a level’s acts after you’ve beaten both of them to get that level’s chaos emerald if you messed up the first time? I think that should be the case! Since they can only let us get one emerald per zone right?

@@mrwizzardknight yeah the giant rings will be there whenever you go back to the level. However if you got an emerald on that zone then the big rings will become blue. So yeah 1 emerald per zone though there are 11 zones
These are actually super cool and I bet I'll have fun playing with them, thank you Sonic Team, but I'm kind of confused about how these powers fit in lore-wise. I don't actually know what's been established about Sonic's abilities in both Classic games, then pretty much not having them in SA1, and then going as far as Frontiers, but I think nearly every one of these can be seen in Modern Super Sonic to date. Like, Avatar is just Giganto's Grand Slam. Ivy is just Cyloop on Wyvern and Knight. Slow is just Sonic's almost innate ability to slow down time for himself. Extra is just Homing Attack. Bullet is probably Boost, if I had to guess. Water and Vision, I don't know, though. It's just like, have they come up with a canonical reason for why they're in Superstars, then not in SA1, then they're in Frontiers yet, or is it a little too early for that?
modern sonics continuity isn't the same as classics. they don't have a handle on modern lore and world yet. so I think they are using classic games now as a way to establish future ideas
Sonic Mania (technically Sonic Generations) created a different timeline for Classic Sonic, which makes sense since after Generations, the classic characters had exposure to adventures they didn't experienced before, and so a butterfly effect has been triggered.
