- Following his late grandmother's sketches and footsteps, artist, filmmaker, and KEEN resident artist Max Romey travels to the remote beaches of Katmai, Alaska.
Along with marine debris experts, Max learns that there's a lot of people making footprints on Katmai without ever visiting.

What a moving tribute to Max Romey's grandmother and a statement about what we need to do for the future.
We were delighted to attend the "Footprints on Katmai" film screening and the subsequent panel discussion at KEEN last night-an exceptional event.
We extend our thanks to KEEN for bringing attention to the critical issue of ocean plastics, which affect even the most remote areas of the world.
Thank you so much for joining us that night! It was beyond my wildest expectations. One step at a time together we can inspire positive changes to protect our ecosystems from plastics.
This was absolutely beautifully presented. It’s a something that wasn’t even on my radar. Now I need to know more. It literally brought me to tears and broke my heart. Thank you for bringing this awareness to me and for putting this out into the world. May it bring ripples of change.
Thank you for watching and your really kind words, it means so much to me and the team.
Max this film is absolutely wonderful ... well not the sad reality of the plastic waste but, your bringing his horrible reality to light. You did this so beautifully ... it brought me to tears. Thank you for taking the time and effort to care so much and to make this movie/documentary. 🙂
Wow! Thank you so much for these words! It's a big scary topic but we can each take a positive step which gives me a lot of hope!
Excellent! Thank you Max, KEEN & Ocean Plastics Recovery!
Thank you so much for watching!
Beautiful and very poignant. I love the creative blend of your watercolors and the incredible scenery. And also all the big bears.
This means so much to hear, thank you!
amazing film, thanks Max and KEEN!
THANK YOU!
This was incredible! You should all be super proud. Terrific storytelling, I loved the transitions and connections. It's soo hard to be hopeful isn't it, with the sheer weight and immensity of this problem. But I guess it's just one bit at a time.
Oh wow, thank you for these super kind words. It can be very hard, but working with organizations like KEEN, Ocean Plastics Recover Project and Protect Our Winters helps inspire me and the team to seek out the hope and find ways to tell more stories like this one to help OTHERS feel hopefully, too!
Awesome message and video. Impressive sketch + watercolor talent. 20,000 lb plastic waste on one boat is a giant haul, esp. without a compactor. What becomes of the recovered plastic? Is there a MRF that will take it in Kodiak?
This is an amazing film! Well done!
Thank you so much, it means A LOT to read this!
Very admirable work! Quite the eye opener. I find it amazing how much work this group does.
Ocean Plastics Recover Project is 🌟 and we feel so fortunate to support the work they do in this way. If we all take one step in the right direction together we can inspire positive change together!
Wow, so well done! Congrats to you and your team 👏
We really appreciate that! Thank you for watching and your kind words!! 💗
This was amazing. Thank you to that whole crew for your work!
We are so happy you thought it was amazing! Thank you watching!
Great movie 💚🌱
Thank you @kid9869 That means so much to hear!
Great fil, Max!
Interesting that this is sponsored by a foot ware company. Good on Keen, but would love to see them doing more to help create solutions. Awareness is a big part, but would love to see more proactive initiatives. How about a shoe return system, where you send your old shoes back to the manufacturer to be recycled or disposed of responsibly?
Very good
