Curt Flood belongs in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown just based on what he contributed to the history of the game. And he was a great defensive centerfielder and a two time world champion.
Well now here we are in May 2023 and both of these Cardinal legends are gone. Listening to them both announcing the play by play of the Cardinal games just seems like yesterday. My how short and precious the gift of life truly is. These two fellas will be dearly missed. RIP Mike and Tim and thanks for the memories.
In his day, Curt flood was the best center fielder in baseball. Great speed, good hitter, supreme outfielder and a man who stood by his word. A very eloquent and humble man. RIP Mr. Flood
The Father of Free Agency! Curt took the heat and lost his career for fairness for all in the game. Damn shame that a lot of these players know nothing of him. Nobody stands up now. It is all about the paycheck. Well Colin Kapernick is an exception.
And just where were all of his teammates and colleagues when they needed to stand up. Nowhere to be found, save for some retirees. That is why his career ended too soon.
Eh…Baseball back then was not the same as today….in today’s game, some “scrub” earns $1 million a year and is set for life… Back then, players often held TWO JOBS just to pay their mortgage and other bills…look what happened to Kap…he attacked the NFL and got himself banned…(of course, he was a lousy quarterback on top of it)…Flood never blamed the players..he understood about “food on the table”

Neither one of these guys had the guts to speak out on his behalf when he was challenging the reserve clause.

As a kid growing up in NYC I was a Yankee fan. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Brock (#20) Flood (#21) Cardinals stick it to the Mets at Shea!
