I think it's very close. I think that little darker sound of the T. rex can be great depending on YOUR rig. In regard to comments below it's all down to that. If you have a bright guitar like a tele, that darker sound rolling some of the highs off may balance out where as if your guitar is not as bright, that extra bit of top end sparkle is what you need. It's all so subjective.
To my ears; in this particular video-; the Fulltone has more happening on the high end. The T-Rex cuts the highs and thereby "ducks" under your sound, making it not as pronounced and could possibly sit in the mix a bit better. But as an A vs B? Fulltone wins. More useful in context? T-Rex wins. Personal opinion.
I think the progressive darkening on the real tape is making a big difference. In a performance or mix this would allow you to apply more effect (a good thing :-) ) without overloading your mix.
That TRex pedal sounds warm and smooth
I think it's very close.

Hearing a pedal by itself just like an amp is the WORST way to judge too.
More of these pedal comparisons should be in a mix.
The Replica is great. I don't have room for a suitcase.

Size matters

Comparison between Virtual and the real thing.
