    In Canada, a third party entered the market that takes ANY soda-stream compatible tanks in exchange for their "purple label" tank (indigo is the brand). Instead of $20 CAD exchange rate for sodastream or ninja, the price is $12.50 CAD. A bit of a savings. In the past, there were third party shops that would refill your tanks for $10 CAD (but you either had to wait or return later for them refilled). The Indigo brand basically killed all the third party shops (the ones I had used in the past no longer both due to difficulty competing with the $12.50 price).

    I just recently bought my Thirsty, and I love all your tips. I Googled CO2 near me, and a brewery supply place (within walking distance :) refills tanks. (One fellow commented that he has a larger tank that he refills, then takes it home to refill the smaller canisters that fit inside… not sure how complicated that is, but it would solve the aesthetic issue ;)

      Yes I've thought about doing that! It would solve the aesthetic problem! If I end up doing it I will make a video! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    This maybe coming from someone that does welding occasionally, but it might not be a bad idea to buy gauge that attaches to your tank and you can see exactly how much you have and you can adjust the pressure to your liking and you will also know when your tank is about to go empty just by looking at the gauge. If you know your about close to empty you will have more time to do a trip when its convenient to fill up the tank again.
    I am looking into these machines and plan to do the same sort of thing and hide the Co2 tank behind some stuff to keep it out of sight. This is a huge plus on how to do it the right way and boy this is going to pay off real quick! Those little canisters are pretty pricy. I guess you could always get an adapter and take a couple of them with you and have the gas company fills those back up for you too. Seem like nice little canisters if you wanted to just build up 2 or 3 of them and than just take them to the gas company and get them refilled and save a bunch of money without having a line sticking out of your machine all the time.
    Enjoyed your video.

      Thanks for this information! I am still on my first 5 lb CO2 tank so it hasn’t ran out yet. I believe my local AirGas only exchanges canisters (does not refill). It's way better than exchanging the small canisters at Target like I was doing previously! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    Hello, again. I realized when I watched your video I accidentally ordered the wrong Co2 Connector and just ordered the correct one. I should get my new machine and my 20 LB tank this coming Monday!
    Thank you for putting out this video.

    That's a brilliant idea! It'll totally be worth it in the long run. Also, I bet you could dremel a little notch at the bottom of the door for hose to feed through and allow you to close the door. Thanks for the video! Super awesome idea!

    Thanks for the video! I want to purchase the Ninja Thirsti but wasn’t sure I could adapt it to use a large tank. Now I know I can so I’ll be buying it. I’d drill a hole in the cover and feed the tubing through so you can close it. That’s what I plan to do.

    Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been wanting a soda maker for ages but the cost of little tanks seems unreasonable. You told us everything we needed to know and I ordered my Thirsti! I almost pulled the trigger on a tank, but I wonder if I should buy my tank and adapter at Airgas? Shipping on the tanks is kinda slow unless you buy the $90 brand. Wish I could find online pricing for a local/Airgas tank. Says Airgas opens tomorrow at 7:30am.
    My next “upgrade” is splitting the water output from my fridge so it will fill my ever empty Ninja coffee pot water receptacle.
    Thanks again!

      After reading other comments, it sounds like Airgas does not sell tanks, so I have ordered a tank from your Amazon links. Thank you, again!

      Hi! I'm so glad I could help you! I have only exchanged my tank once since making this video, so the 5lbs lasts a long time! Thank you so much for watching and enjoy your Thirsti! 😃

    Thanks for this frugal tip! I’m ready to click your amazon link but am undecided with the co2 canister size.
    My family drinks about 5 24oz drinks each day. If you were in my situation, would you recommend the 5# or a larger canister, now that you’ve had this trick for ~month now ?

    • @kstorrer
      @kstorrer  2 месяца назад

      I haven't used all of my 5 lb one yet, so I'm not sure how long it will last? A larger canister will be larger in size so you would just need to make sure it would fit wherever you plan to keep it. Also, you might check with where you plan to exchange your canister and make sure they exchange the size you are planning on buying. I hope that helps a bit with your decision! I'm really happy with mine! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    I know i suggested you this hack but i went a different route instead of using co2 tank with ninja thirsti i use it with the sodastream terra its a quick connect hose i needed for terra,but the connections on terra are in the back i can leave back panel off and have tank connected and terra is slimmer than thirsti so little more space without the door on thirsti!Also with the terra you could drill hole in back panel and run hose through it but i have not done that!Also you get 1 liter from bottles for sodastream ninja is little smaller size but i have to have bottles in fridge ready to carbonize!

    • @michaelb4512
      @michaelb4512 2 месяца назад

      Also my terra is not electric!

      @kstorrer  2 месяца назад +1

      Very cool! It sounds like it works really well with the Sodastream Terra! I am going to drill a hole in the canister door and run the connector tube through it so the door will close. That should help a bit! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    Is there any difference in the CO2 you get from a place like AirGas Welding Supply? ie is there a 'food grade' CO2 vs welding gas? Do we know if the canisters bought off of Amazon are clean inside? I've seen a few that were marketed for Kegs/Beer Making. Sorry for all of the questions but I would love to install one of these on my Thirsti.

    • @jasoa
      @jasoa 3 месяца назад +2

      Replying to my own question. After searching and reading a bit from homebrew beer makers, there is a beverage grade CO2 and welding grade. Some of the info has said that AirGas carries the beverage grade CO2. So I guess I'll make sure to ask whenever I get a tank refilled.

    • @kstorrer
      @kstorrer  3 месяца назад +4

      The CO2 I got from AirGas is food grade. It is marked Food Grade on the canister. I know people refill at paint ball places and I don't believe those canisters are considered Food grade? I am new to this! The canister I bought on Amazon (See link in description) was brand new and very clean. You will have to trade in your shiny new canister at AirGas and they will exchange it for a used one that has been refilled. But it will have been cleaned and marked Food Grade. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!

    Does yours blow a bunch of air out of the back right after it gets the after? Before it actually fizzes and starts dispensing the carbonated drink? If you put your hand back there do you feel it?

    • @kstorrer
      @kstorrer  2 месяца назад

      No, mine doesn't do that. Is it coming from the Ninja or the tank?

    Consider filling your CO2 at your local welding supply shop

      I refill at AirGas because it's food grade CO2. Not sure if you can get food grade CO2 at a welding supplier? Thanks so much for watching! 🙂

      @@kstorrer I found out my AirGas location only does exchanges. I called a rep at the company and for a 10 or 20 LB tank it's around $30 to $40 dollars. I figured I might as well get the larger one. Looking forward to setting my new system up!
      Thank you for the kind reply! I hope it goes the distance for you.

      I think you just need to add a 1 way flow valve and probably use a pressure gauge so you know when the other tank is full.
