    Without flux or shielding gas it's not welding. The oxygen in the air is getting to the molten metal and you're just gluing things together with brittle slag.

    • @donaldcampbell7894
      @donaldcampbell7894 3 года назад +6

      Exactly right the same thing happens when I short things out with my extension cord. That's not welding. The very definition is joining two metals as if they were never separated. Spot welding works because no air is between the two weldments.

    • @LionelAchari
      @LionelAchari 3 года назад +5

      @@donaldcampbell7894 I guess in a rare case were you need to spot weld a battery temporally in an emergency in the middle of nowhere then it mite be a good idea.

      SalemikTUBE I up-voted you, but: Actually, upon consideration, there might be some CO2 shielding present due to the hot carbon rod absorbing the free oxygen in the vicinity, albeit the oxygen has to already be there to be absorbed.
      I might have to give him that...
      Also, the carbon rod might cause some surface hardening and brittleness.
      All in all I agree it is not a very good method.

  • @artbyrobot1
    @artbyrobot1 8 месяцев назад

    if you guys want to do this with welding gas for more quality professional results, you need argon gas. Buying a tank is $200+ and this is a budget build so taht is out. I recommend buying wine preservation argon which comes in a spray paint can size at 80psi for around $9 per can if you buy 2 cans. It will buy you about 2 minutes of welding time and you can send it through a tube and blow it onto your weld when you begin welding. you will need to make a finger switch to activate it and get it blowing just when you are about to engage the weld. These cans will enable you to do some decent small welds for a while.

    • @DrAgan_tortojed
      @DrAgan_tortojed 2 года назад +6

      But of course. Only, it has to be powerful - able to deliver constant high current (30 - 50A or more - the more, the better) without a drop of voltage during a long intervals. Practically, it would need to be a stabilized PSU of at least 500 Watt (say, 12 VDC/40 ADC). That being said, traditional PSU would require a transformer with a soft iron core as powerful as 1000VA, massive "graetz" (bridge rectifier) and a lot of "filtration" (capacitors with huge capacity). The more current and more voltage in a battery (or PSU), the tool would be able to weld thicker pieces of metal in less time...

    Nice, but you should use any connecting substance like cooper wire or solding wire or something to stick or what ever technical people called it im not a enganier so cannot say technical words

    Ain’t gonna lie demonstrating the welding of the of the wires made me think there was more wires I didn’t pay attention to. But now I see those were nothing.

    Very risky there is a lot of current flowing through which will lead to explosion of the battery and also not very usefull idea

    I might try this in fire bricks with a few rods ,see if it smelts metal in a crucible sat on the rods

    You need at least 30 volts DC to make a decent welder lol

      12v is enough to burn your car without any petrol involve. U should go to workshop to see how they repair the battery terminal. Then u will see the truth

    I think the battery will not explode, us you can see he uses a black rod in the battery, (I dont know the name of it) . But that rod may break if its too long in using it

      No allowed to be use adoptor for like this project it needs of high amper required ,but if you whish to to do like, transformer with high amperage and ractifier diodes are required to be perform well,
