  • Bees and other pollinators are essential for sustaining agriculture and biodiversity worldwide.
FAO headquarters in Rome hosts two ‘bee hotels’ for solitary bees - red mason bees (Osmia bicornis also known as Osmia rufa). These bees are excellent pollinators that are also harmless to humans, and they are buzzing around, helping support the biodiversity of FAO’s rooftop garden.
World Bee Day is focused this year on the importance of involving young people in beekeeping and pollinator conservation efforts, recognizing them as the future stewards of our environment.
