There are a bunch of bigger questions that aren't addressed:
    1) Where is the money coming from to upgrade power transmission across Canada? California is doing this and it is costing them an unbelievable amount of money.
    2) Where are the minerals like cobalt coming from? Right now about 70%/ comes from the DRC. You should go see how the children work in toxic mud for $0.25 per day. If the answer is NA then who is going to pay for the more expensive batteries?
    3) What about people who can't afford $60,000+ for an electric car? If supply is low and purchasing electric is mandated by the government (demand high) it would reason the prices will be even higher by 2035.
    4) What about investment in charging stations? Gas stations will effectively need to be replaced.
    5) Are we actually going to get more money back from our investment or is this just a politics move to get votes? Manufacturing labour in the US is typically significantly cheaper than Canada so if we beat the US on the bid I'm guessing we are giving A LOT.
This seems like a lot of spending that could reasonably plunge our children into massive debts for their entire lives.. all to reduce Canada's green house gas emissions by 4% or the world's by 0.06%.

But does it actually do anything? In the end we’re still using 2-3 tons worth of vehicle to go from place to place. Lots of embodied energy of manufacturing, energy to move 2 tons of vehicle per butt. Makes vehicular emissions easier to tolerate.
Real solution: densify our cities, no parking minimums, mixed-use buildings. Build mid-rise mixed-use so that people can be closer to daily amenities. If you lived a block from the grocery why wouldn’t you just walk? Kids could walk to school if it was just two blocks away.
Mid-rise residential means many more shared walls which cuts down on heating needs.

Their estimated delivery times were 6 months + for the Hybrid. Two years + on the Prime. Difference in cost about $20 K more for the Prime. The combined fuel consumption for both is the same around 6L / 100 km. So my Money is on the Hybrid for several reasons. No extra expenses for the charging system. With our winter temps around - 30 to -40 C the supposed advantage of electric range tends to disappears with the Prime that uses the Lithium Ion batteries. While every company is trying to find alternatives for EV batteries that don't use rare earth metals, the real solution to carbon emissions from ICE engines isn't EVs. EVs are just a part of the solution. The real solution is public transit and rail networks.

Soon the Pickering electric generating plant will be closing. Until now I do not know of anything that is going to make up the shortfall of electricity. Will there be a shortage of electricity once there are more electric vehicles for sale? Will there be enough charging stations? How will electric vehicles stand up to very cold weather? As a senior I do not drive much and so my van sits in the driveway. When that happens it is sometimes hard or impossible to start my van because my battery charge is so low. Will the batteries of electric vehicles lose their charge like that? Let's say the batteries are too discharged. Now you will have to get it towed to some charging station - right? Also, once at the charging station it may take an hour or longer to charge your vehicle if you get there first. What if you have to wait in line? It will take even longer to charge your electric vehicle. Who wants to have to wait in line for so long?
Why isn't the government not promoting hydrogen gas vehicles? Why not give Canadians some choice? Let's wait and see if Trudeau buys an electric vehicle. In the meantime I will be buying a used gas powered vehicle. I think Trudeau is very wrong to only promote electric vehicles.

Coal-fired electricity is still more carbon-efficient than ICE engines I believe the number is that a coal-fired electrical plant produces a third of the CO2 to power an EV than would be produced by a comparable ICE vehicle. I do suspect that driving a small ICE vehicle solves more problems than driving a honking electric SUV does, though. Roads and manufacturing the vehicles also have environmental impacts, and these depend more on vehicle size than on what runs them.

Although 60% efficiency would require a modern cogeneration coal power plant and we don't have cogeneration plants in North America. There has to be an EV that competes with sub compacts to really make them attractive economically as entry level vehicles. IMO. A new base Nissan Micro or Chevy Spark could be had for $10k just a couple of years ago. They're both unfortunately no longer available in Canada. It is still possible to get a Mitsubishi Mirage base model for $14k. I rented one recent. Very cheap on fuel and perfectly acceptable for basic transport.

@@burntearth85Entry level sub compacts start at $14k in Canada. A couple of years ago one could get a base model Chevy Spark or Nissan Micra for $10k. That range of the market is unfortunately unserved by EVs. The average purchase price of new cars crept up over the last few years as interest rates plummeted and people could afford to finance larger more expensive vehicles. That's reversing and, personally, I think we're going to see a renewed demand for cheap sub compacts. Its not clear, today, how EV's will served that end of the market.

Top 10 reasons why you should re-consider purchasing EVs.
EVs is the biggest scam since Huwawii 5G. (1) power grid/lines can’t support energy load, Evs take. (2) powwr companies will continue to burn natural resources, the country will also sell the natural resources to other countries therefore there still being mined in remote area’s, still being mined with fosil fuels. (3) everyone’s homes need to upgrade their power outlets to support EV charging.(4) everyone will need fire protection on their homes= doubling their home insurance.(5) the EV will contain countless amounts of chips and cameras all effecting personal security. (6) if power companies still burn fosil fuels like natural gas or coal, then how green is an EV? (7) the cost of a gasoline or diesel truck is crowding the $100k , an EV truck is estimated $130k Canadian dollars, only just 20 years ago you could still mortgage a house for $130k Canadian. How can you justify the cost to pay off after purchasing? Veicles never increase in value, they always deflate in value. (8) solar power panel farms and wind generating farms all have countless maintenance and life expectancy of 10 years after construction is completed, they both take fosil fuels to produce, ship and deliver and erect and maintain. How green are EVs? (9) when will the mass population wake up, your being scammed, your buying a bomb on wheels, the batteries will erode or explode in extreme Canadian climate negative temperatures =price tag of $10-40k to replace all the batteries as often more then one will have the fluid over them. (10) Evs are 25-50% heavier on the road then gasoline or diesel powered veicles, this extra load on roads increase frequency of road repairs=tar/oil ashfault, along with increase in fatalities in accidents and therefore increase higher liabilities in insurance claims or premiums. I can go on and on. How green are EVs now?
