for 2k$ , i dunno what to say. Waiting for Atomos to make one for 500$ to do the same thing.
Would be cool if you had a shot looking through the EVF, kind of bummed out there wasn't one.
Is this compatible with Blackmagic Camera 6k?
Great review.. Thank you.
I have one of these too. The power arrangement has bothered me since day one. Couldn't they have just put a power switch on the EVF instead of having to buy a proprietary cable? I have tried other cables and none of them really work that well and are very inconsistent in terms of which ones will work. Not sure why Lemo is the thing either. They're just bulky and hard to compress the rig into a tiny footprint. Otherwise a nice EVF and I will say that their customer service is top notch. They bend over backwards to help resolve any issues you might have.
$1950 , 1 year limited warranty ....bit rich....Zacutto in general are overpriced ....but since there are not alot of EVFs to choose from ...they get away with it. If blackmagic made it , the price would be $500.
Blackmagic did make an EVF and it's not as good plus its $1500
@@CaptainReview We should design our own....Call it the "Visual Captain EVF"....now with waveforms and only $499
2k for an viewfinder? I’ll pass.
$2k EVF on a $14k RED isn't out of line at all. Plus, you would/should be making money with projects to justify and write off this kind of expense.

Thanks Tom! Nice review like expected 👍
Great. Thanks for this video. Anything for around150-250$ though? Keep it up! Great job as always.
not for an evf... there's some great monitors in that range
Ikan has a 3.5 inch monitor with a loupe so it can function like an evf. Around that price I think
@@aaronragasa6173 It actually looks like it can be used as an EVF. Thanks!
Hey tom, have you seen any other EVF mounts that work like that one? $350-ish is a tone for a mount, but it does look like it is really flexible and will work in just about any scenario.
I have one from lanparte but is close but not as good. Mainly because the lanparte one and every other one I tried that has the arri mount can only adjust the angles if you loosen the screws. In the zacuto arm i like that you can adjust the tension and then leave it and whenever you want to adjust the angles you just do it. You dont need to loosen anything or unlock anything to adjust the angles.
@@TomAntos Yeah, that is a pain. I did get some quick trigger adjustment rosette adapters from Wooden Camera the other day that are amazing as far as that goes. You really need to check those out. You never have to lose the rosettes again. A simple push of a button and you can rotate them immediately.

so sad that Zacuto is still trying to rip you of. The viewfinder looks really perfect but the price is huge. Special Zacuto pricing for the mount for 332,- (!) and the cable 152,- is nuts. I guess there will be a solution from other companies soon for a much better price. Otherwise I would test it and I guess this is the first viewfinder with flexible inputs and OLED. I guess it is a micro oled from Sony
Visible shutter effect in 25P?
Hi Tom, I got my Zacuto Kameleon Pro Viewfinder today. I connected the viewfinder to the Sony FX3 via HDMI and found out, that in 25P/50Hz there is a slightly visible shutter effect while paning the camera. If I switch the camera to NTSC 30P/60Hz the shutter effect is less. Ok, 30P is more "time" information than 25P, but may be the EFV is more optimized for 30P/60Hz, that this is the native frequency?
I think the shutter effect in 25P is more visible than in a ARRI Amira or Mini camera at 25P. But I have to do further test with the Zacuto with an other camera with SDI output and compare it to a ARRI Camera. What do you think?
I wish one could actually afford one...
Tom, thanks for the great review. Enjoyed your program. I can't seem to get the 4 function buttons to save beyond when you power the Kameleon Pro off it resets back to the way they were. Is their a secret that I'm missing?
Made one of these out of a Canon viewfinder for display, and a 1080p 5 inch monitor, and a wireless follow focus, and it works great. No SDI connection, but don’t have any equipment that uses SDI. Grand total 550 dollars.
Great video Tom! I prefer shooting with an EVF over a monitor in most situations. Is there any lag/delay when using HDMI vs. SDI? I have an older Zacuto Z Finder EVF Pro that I really love but there is a slight delay in the signal. I don't know if that is just the downside to using HDMI or if the Z Finder Pro is the culprit due to its older technology. (I knew about the lag before I purchased it so I knew what I was getting into). Thanks Tom!
The only thing that prevents me from getting a Kameleon is the lack of a proximity sensor to shut down the evf. How long before you get burn in on the oled?
How does this compare to the gratical eye in terms of screen lag and image quality? Are they basically the same, or is it a big upgrade?
Thanks for the review Tom. I have been considering an EVF for my Z Cam E2 but haven't bit the bullet yet. Zacuto is so very expensive and then you still need to buy the cable on top of it. Curious as to if you have tried the PortKeys EVF? Seems much more reasonably priced and has waveforms, etc. I am leaning that way instead of the pricey Zacuto EVFs.
Thanks for the comment Alan. Im actually in the process of testing the PortKeys EVF. Join me on my website newsletter if you want to be the first to hear news about it.
I like the functionality of it. I just wish it could be more streamlined. It's a bit bulky for me. 👍🏾
I'm baffled why we have access to sooooo many great sub $500-1000 monitors with all the features we need, but a proper EVF costs $2K. It's probably due to the niche market, but I think it's an opportunity for the monitor manufacturers to jump on.
I totally agree. I feel there is a strong market for a quality $500 EVF. I'm hoping Feelworld steps up to the plate. They've been doing a great job with affordable monitors.
Expenisve but excellent!
Man, I don't care about that EVF. I just like to watch your videos.
Thanks Steven! Not sure why it's entertaining by Im glad it is.
How's the fan noise ?
Nobody talks about the PortKeys OEYE-3G EVF?
I did. On my website and my social media posts. Been using it for 5 months and will be doing a review on RUclips soon
how's the fan noise ?
Would you tell me if this works on the Lumix GH5 & GH5s
Yes it works.
@@PeterSchurte Many Thanks.
You keep saying Zacuto has no Evf with sdi when the very first (and best) gratical has had sdi and hdmi for YEARS.
You misunderstood what I said. I reviewed an EVF from a few companies before and the one I tested from Zacuto only had SDI no HDMI. Please watch that video and you will see what I am talking about. I never said they have no EVF with HDMI and SDI in it.
I would love to try one out to see how it compares to my Gratical HD. But even if the quality is better, the fact that it doesn't have outputs to allow cross conversion is a deal breaker for my workflow. And having the overlays instead of outside the image space is terrible. Bleh. I'm sure the image quality is very good though.
