Played this at my high school, I did snare/ride. The way Percussion was, we had people from percussion ensemble help but they were never with the full band to do a rehearsal. So when the concert comes around, it’s a simple concert and then we get to this peice. At around 7:49 I look to the percussionist playing marimba and they have tears running down their face. There’s nothing in the world that beats the experience of knowing that you and your peers are just in the music and feeling it 100%. Omar Thomas, thank you
This piece is destined to be a staple piece of the wind ensemble for the same reason that Elegy for Young American has. They are both significant pieces of work and they were written for homage to great wrongs.
That's so true, I played American elegy for my concert MPA this year! And I just played this piece for all county band and we put it together thankfully! I loved this piece.
Vicente and Mr. Rivera - thank you for the compliment! I’m Roy Allen and normally I play tenor sax in the group and was filling in on principal alto sax on this concert.
Listening to the TMEA region 30 6A symphonic band perform this piece last Saturday was astonishing... Now the state symphony orchestra is going to play the orchestral arrangement??? Good lord!!!!

This piece is so emotionally charged, I can’t help but tear up

Been in love with the oboe solo ever since I heard one of my closest friends play it with the 2021-2022 Region 2 Wind Ensemble
Great performance! Also great saxophone soloist!!!
This is among my favorite new works we've played in TDW!
And the horns just rock the house!

I'm playing this in school with others in band. What a wonderful piece. My favorite part is when the low brass played very loud in the beginning
Sorry I missed this piece live. A stunning tribute to the original melody & beautifully presented by our DWS! Many thanks!~
Absolutely ripping horn line at 4:35
Some of that sound is also trombone 1 growling and plunger-d
@@GracyJaneTomek yeah you're right! It would've been awesome if the horns flared their bells too, what do you think?
@@vic727 sick idea
@@vic727 I do that when I play it ;) both trumpet 3 and trombone 1 are using plungers so it feels very fitting.
speechless
Very well done. Superb work, Jerry and musicians. Wonderful composition Mr. Thomas.
Who’s the saxophone soloist? He sounds great!
Roy Allen Jr
