I was following this... and then I read a forum post. You can literally just stick a screwdriver in the top middle part of the trunk release to release the latch and never remove the trunk panel. Much easier. 1 minute replacement.
Sure wish I read this before doing all of this. I used a plastic pry tool from a cell phone screen repair kit to avoid scratching. Didn't need too take anything else apart.
Way to much work... unnecessary. You can remove the latch with a screwdriver, unplug the wire. Connect wire to new part and snap in. Takes about 5 minutes!
@@jandevery Don't use a screwdriver as you may mar your paint. You don't need much to release that clip, and as I stated even folded over light weight cardboard should do it. I used a "Great Clips" ad folded once to make two thicknesses. If that scratches your paint, you are doing something very wrong or your paint is in dire condition.
You don't need to pull the liner on the trunk lid. Just gently pry the top of the switch downward with an upholstery tool (or popsicle stick, or whatever), cant the handle downward from the top and ease out the electrical connector. Unplug the connector, toss the old handle, plug the connector into the new handle and insert the bottom end of the handle into the slot, rock it upward and press until the tabs click into place. Easy cheesy, took about 3 minutes.
To re-iterate, and explain a bit more in depth, there is a MUCH easier way to replace this. If you look at the top (as the item will be sitting inside the trunk lid) of your new switch you will see a tiny, bright chrome colored clip. You need a thin object to release this clip. I didn't have a "popsicle stick" or a narrow enough pry tool (my Stack On set was all too thick), so I just took the cardboard from a local store's coupons and doubled it over. Slide this above the top of the lock as the trunk lid is open (in other words, the surface away from the interior, carpeted section. You will eventually get that up far enough to release that clip, but there's no "click", etc. Just use traction on the switch until you feel it come free. Pull it out, remove the plug (simple friction fit), put the plug into the new switch and just press the switch back into the hole. It will snap in in several areas and hold. Tada! People claiming 5 minute fix were exaggerating. Unless you include finding supplies, making your "tool", it's more like a one minute fix.
LOL! The author of this video apparently found some E90 dealer's service manual and just followed the "official" procedure, describing it in "calm and experty" voice to make it look like they know what they're doing. The one and only purpose of the "official" procedure (which apparently involves the removal of the trunk liner) is to artificially inflate the labor cost of the procedure to make the dealer charge the customer more money. That's all. You don't need to do this at home. You don't need to even touch the trunk liner. Just take a plastic spudger, spudge out and disconnect the old handle, connect and snap in the new handle. The whole replacement procedure takes 40-60 seconds.
No need to remove the inner liner of the trunk. A small nitch above the top of the latch is to put a thin screwdriver and release the latch. Should update this video with that option.
The plastic pins are such a pain to take out! After I took all of them out, there was no way for me to reach to the back of the trunk release because mine is E93 convertible which has many wire components around the release... I found it's much easier to stick a flathead screw driver in from the outside and just lever it out. Took me 10 seconds. So much easier to do that way.
Mixed review - your procedure completed the PITA process I started by myself, but my switch is fine and prying it from the outside would have saved me time, if I had known,
Hi. I want to connect the electricity to the trunk handle wires and get to the battery. Wires for trunk handle ... which wire is + and which is -? Please asap because my battery is dead and I can't open the car. Manual open is not possible because manual key is lost.

You are making this WAAAAAY to hard, Zero need to remove the trunk liner. Pry the old boot out with a small screwdriver, disconnect. Connect the new part and snap back in place. 3 minutes tops!
All the comments say top of the switch. WTF is the top of a switch that sits horizontally?? The catches are on the left and right edge where the f*ck is the top.

yep ...now I saw the simple variant ..so ... we all have improvements to do :)
The best thing about this video ARE THE COMMENTS. Commenters seem to know better than the video.
i see :))

you can't , well as I know of , the single method to open the trunk is to get inside it and pull the emergency escape thinghy..
