Lakers have a unique opportunity to realize this team isn’t a contender and jumpstart a rebuild while their players have max value. AD won’t stay healthy forever, next year is Reaves last cheap year on his deal before he gets paid and isn’t a huge bargain anymore, and Steph could probably convince the Warriors to trade for LeBron, give a couple assets directly and then flip Wiggins for more assets later if he continues to play well. We can either be a team whose ceiling is round two with limited assets going forward or we can call it now and have an extra 6-8 1st round picks to rebuild with.
Nothing is going to save the Lakers. No amount of trades is going to give Lebron another ring, sure maybe play off material but no way a championship contender. They still have potential, they just have a bad GM. They need to start DFS over Rui, they need more defense with LeBron in the lineup, besides Rui would get more touches when he's playing of the bench and he can create his own shot which has been their problem with their depth. They need to get a better 2 than Max, although he has been good recently, it's still not enough to compete with other teams' depth. They should also replace Gabe with a play-making guard like Dennis or CP3. Lastly, they need to swap Knecht with Kesler. Knecht has great potential but Kesler would have a better impact with the team currently. They are basically the same age so it's not even a waste of potential.

If they get borderline star 3pt shooting wing and a decent bench center, they can make it to WCF. Wings are the most wanted players on the market so trading one 1st round pick is ok if they bring in some good valuable player who can later be resigned and converted into one or two picks when LeBron finishes. So it should be someone in his late 20s or younger: Cam Johnson, Deandre Hunter, Zach Lavine. Trading both available 1st picks will be suicide for them. And a decent low wage bench center can be bought for a pack of 2nd rounders: Valanciunas, Rob Williams, Daeron Sharp.

I think the Lakers should probably still consider trading for a big like Valanciunas, Poeltl, or Capela just to ease the burden off of AD but otherwise, they should try to keep as many assets as possible. If this team crumbles again, there’s a decent chance LeBron does his retirement tour in Cleveland since he’ll have a better shot at a chip. No point in going all in anymore, especially when there isn’t a player on the market like Donovan Mitchell or Lamelo Ball who can turn this team into a true contender.
