Smurfs are a cancer but the game is not gonna fix unless Riot start to request the mobile phone number to play competitive.
I Hope they Will improve the anti-smurf, mainly to avoid boosting. All the toxicity its related to unfair game and boosted teammates, so i really think they Will make this game great again
thats not true, the toxicity comes purely from ego, and people not wanting to admit that they made a mistake, every single time someone is toxic in my games, its because they are blaming someone on the team for something, when most often they themselves is the main issue

The smurfing stuff is such a big problem, and arguably a bigger problem than riot is willing to admit.
90% of my comp games recently have been completely 1 sided matches. usually 1-3 people with 25+ kills while other people have less than 10. the way i see it rank does not equal skill level.

Welcome in « near the end of the Act » valorant. It’s always the same every act. It starts completely shitty one sided match for like 2 weeks then it become enjoyable in the middle of it when even loses are nice because matches are close then 2 weeks later it’s the smurfs come back and one sided matches when even if you win you don’t enjoy it because your getting carried in a match you don’t belong in.
i recomend to you to play 5 Stacks. Find people on discord. If you play solo duos or trios regardles of ehat you play THE TIME you play with Randoms you will loose. NPC Bots.
I went 5 stacks with people on discord and we 90% only won. Climbed to Plat in 1 Day. I was like Gold 1 before.
High ping advantage on swings are a very big problem

Update Jan 2023: a new episode came out and everyone got 2 ranks below their real rank as placement. Before this update, every 2 out of 10 games used to be opponent smurfing. Now it is about 8 out of 10 games that opponent is a smurf. Thank you so much RIOT
Can't get out of asc-immo lobby because of boosted people. They should also add boosted people detection :(
Sadly I see it as a "boost for boosters". Smurfs will find it easier to uprank someone else's account. Smurfing is double edged. Play against a smurf and one goes gaga crazy. But playing with a smurf, no complaints.
Me as a casual player at Iron-Bronze knows how problematic are Smurfs. I just play for some fun and they just ruin it.

For me the biggest issue I have is the inability to sort and filter out games more and smurfs.
I am a control main and I rely on information to pop off and when I get into lobbies of 0 mics it infuriates me to no end in ranked. I'd love for a microphone requirement in ranked. I can throw down often getting 20+ kills in a match easy but when you fail to communicate sometimes it will cost rounds. I can smoke default.spots all day long and take site easy but then suddenly in gunfights if I receive no info you died from a flank in the heat of a moment and it gets me killed or makes it so.i cannot figure out who's last alive to clutch we have issues.

We wouldn’t make Smurf accounts if you could just fix the match making in comp. U queue in a ascendant or imm game and either win 13-3 or lose 13-3. Idc what anyone says, ANY GAME where it is 13-3, proves there is a clear skill difference.
I still think the best way to eliminate smurfs is to delete alt accounts all together. Then if someone is not in a rank they aren’t supposed to be in, the rank system will boost them to where they need to be. It’s actually a much simpler fix than we think

As the Algorithm can not always work; be what about the accounts that have been made or played on multiple PCs in Cyber Arenas (game Cafe) prob with your logic yeah "just delete their account"
another angle is those Riot games accounts that are not smurf nor Alts. those have been made for a different region to be able to play on other regions. might not be common on EU or NA but it is for entire Asia to play in either Middle Asia, Middle East or SEA or North Africa servers. yeah "just delete them" too!

Smurfs is the number one problem by far. It’s like 7/10 games in plat there’s an obvious smurf
they should fix the gap between ranks in some ranked bc im radiant and in some games i play some games (few) they are inm 1 or 2 with ascend friends and is annoy to play with them bc the gap skills (my english isnt the best )
Not going to lie. Smurfing is actually not a problem. Idc what anyone says. I was stuck in silver before. Went now to Diamond. And honestly it not the smurfers. It actually people throwing games and getting boosted. It rediculous now. To the point where you can't even tell a silver and diamond apart.

People don’t play their mains at the end of acts and it’s really annoying. They probably wanna keep their ranks and avoid taking the chance of losing it before the act is done but i don’t really understand it.
Mmr system should be revise too. This should stay wayyy closer to your showing rank. I’m a casual player P2 , most of the time i have 4-5 ascendants in my match mixed with D3 and D2 and that’s when i’m solo queuing, how’s that a thing ? Let me play against Plats or rank me up wtf. And if i make the mistake of playing decent , i’m going against ascendants 3 like chill out riot i just finished work and wanna relax ffs

In Australian servers Wall Hacks an Aim Bot are standard for almost literally all players aside from 1% of real players. Smurfing is an issue on Sydney servers is an issue and decimating between hacker/cheaters is almost impossible to identify as well. Australian servers need a massive ban wave and reset for the game to survive here in Australia in 2023 and beyond.
No. This is riot and they won't do anything about the problems in the game but they will add new skins and take absurd money from it.
That's why I don't play Valorant anymore.
Im talking about a solution since years, but they seem not to come to the same conclusion, either they thought about it and decided its to much effort, or the costs are not profitable enough, which would be a wrong assumption/calculation, because fixing that issues would create more profit in long terms, from a healthier player base.
The issue with smurfs does not only exist in Valorant, and always was a problem in LoL as well.
Their solution does only feel like a bandage on a broken leg. The biggest part of the problem since the beginning is the Elo system.
Elo was created for chess, chess doesnt have different maps, different roles, different character with different abilities and its also not a team game, elo only translates poorly to multiplayer games such as valorant or LoL. To counter all the issues the Elo system brings with it, all they always did, was creating the mmr system to support the elo system and all they do is tinkering around with it. It will never fix the issues and only lead to more frustration among the player base.
Almost every Problem Valorant has, would get better if they just changed the elo system to a statistic based system.
Colloect data from the players, analyze and compare it, for example the positioning a player takes on specific maps with their agent and compare that to the rest of the player base, playing that agent on that map, a pro will always have a different pattern than a silver player, also analyze their hit rate, mouse movement, every thing you can collect data on and just compare it. Sounds way more complicated as it actually is, but all theyve to do is, first finally introduce a system that records all that data but also the entire game, also give you a way to replay it, like a demo in csgo. 2nd create an Ai that takes the data, compares it and decides how many points some one gets from playing the game.
Imagine the Ai figures out in 3 games, when an account is definitely smurfing, the patterns he has are diamond and not bronze/silver, lets push him immediately into platin and see how it goes.
But the system could also detect patterns of griever, afk, cheater, smurfs who fake bad game play, and much better put you into the rank you actually belong in.
Lets say you play a support, and on average you position better, you support better and in comparison your kda is good, but you lose your game even so you did your job pretty well, but your controller and your duelist didnt, and now the system could still give you points even so you lost your games. Of course the downside to that would be, you wont get your points immediately after the game, it would need some time, mainly because people shouldn't know how the system ranks your behavior, just so they cant figure easily out how to abuse it, but any way, mostly just playing better as the average player in your rank would be the trick. Lets say you play 3 to 5 games in a week and 3-5 days later you get so many points, you rank up immediately 4-5 ranks, you wont know which of the games gave you the most points, but in comparison your behavior was rewarded.
Punishment for griever, and toxic people could be detected and properly dealt with. Having a bad day once, fine happens to every one, being permanently toxic, shows definitely a pattern. But also cheater have some really easy to detect patterns, the Ai could ramp up the vanguard system on some ones system and give the data back to the support team, so even when vanguard doesnt detect something, the Ai realizes there is something going on. And the Support team could look into it, especially because the system records the entire game.
Now almost all problems would really get better, you cant fix them entirely, but with that, not only less smurfer would occur, also less toxic people and less cheater and no excuses like elo hell or mmr, people will get less frustrated, the player base could grow, and thus more money will be spend in the game.
I like the idea with teams, was needed, but hopefully they introduce at some point a way for the community to provide more, like custom maps, mods, skins, art, discussion forum and so on. (accessible through the game.). That would help content creators to find better content as, ranking up from iron to immortal in random day number.
Also this would create a growing, better and more active community.

AI would be too complex and it would take years to get a level that would be able to do half of what you are talking about. Not impossible - just takes a lot of time and will have a lot of false pos. The real answer is just limit rank to a single account honestly. Just liek chess - the system wasnt design around different accounts.. its what create elo hell and other issues because the system has ghost players in the system it doesnt know what to do with. So in this case, it will push players with higher ranking mmr to play with lower mmr and higher ranking to play against higher ranking players.
Kaemi's marshal to immo isn't a good comparison, since he made it to immo before yes, but he was doing shotgun only to immo when he got it.
Literally just played 8 games and lost 7 of them, several games the players admitted to smurfing or boosting someone....I'm fucking over it, deleted valorant after a 37 hour Reyna destroyed me this last game.....over it
Won't make a difference, Riot just add SMS protect and be done with it. The people complaining about it in Overwatch are only complaining because it's Overwatch and has no serious player base.
In ranks plat and below smudging is the no. 1 problem

I think if the person is openly smurfing like streaming or posting videos on youtube, they should ban their account.

I mean the real answer is just have people link their accounts to a phone number. That way tehy can still make alt accounts for any reason - but their accounts would be link to a number thus all their ranking/skill can follow with it. Sure there will be some people that can get around it - but they will be far between what most would have access too. Problem is rank shouldnt have your alt account in the ranking system. It either forces other players out of that ranking level or creates a hole for the higher ranking games. Ranking is design to only be setup for one person in chess - not the same guy many times. So every time you play on an alt and rank up - you are pushing others out of that rank to make room for that alt now. This create a hole where players that should be higher are now lower and higher ranks playing against lower ranks. Over all its a BIG problem. While I dont think bans should be handed out for say, but they for sure limit how an alt account can be played. Either locking them to numbers or in some worst case - do make it punishable action for smurfing and messing up the ranking system.
This is not gonna fix anything, when you can buy ranked ready acc for 5 bucks
A bigger problem I have is cheaters. Especially since platforms like tiktok has people promoting cheats. Smurfing isn’t as big but there are people paying for boosts, which is still a problem.

The account boosters can rank up on accounts faster than before, thus increasing their profit. Plus it makes it easier to get into the boosting market for people who just didn't want to put in the effort into boosting accounts before...
So yeah... I think that smurfing will be a problem no matter what.
I think having a few matches ruined on the high elo because boosted players derank very quickly is a fair trade for having a smurf in every other match in the mid elo (gold-dia)

Smurfing is the worst thing in valorant 100%. Not only do you have to face off against an immortal/radiant 1 in every 3 games, but if you get them on your team it’s also unenjoyable. Whenever I have a Smurf on my team I just watch as they frag out the site we plant and all I’m doing is throwing down support utility. When we stomp a team 13-2 and people in my team are obviously skirting, I just get off. I enjoy the competitive side of valorant I don’t only care about MMR, so when you vs a Smurf or have a Smurf on your team, it’s destroying any sense of competitive fun in the game. And then you get boosted players who obviously don’t belong in your rank and are just bricks that lead you to get dominated. Toxicity already improved a whole lot since the update, if smurfing follows, then valorant has a bright future. Also with the updates, I don’t know how it’s stale, the chamber update made it feel like a new game since I’ve never went against this many cyphers and KJs plus 2 maps are getting rotated out and another sentinel coming out next. I think people in the higher ranks think the game is stale but for lower ranks everyone seems to be having a fun time

Not at all - the problem is when you see that game after game and you look them up and for sure see them go from Iron to Raid in less than a week. Not only is rank not design for different accounts like that - it hurts everyone else pushing them down in ranks because only soo many people can be at a rank level.

The amount of games I play and see a reynas one taps everyone each round is ridiculous, especially in the Silver-Gold lobbies, it's just mind blowing, Competitive is all about being Fair, not a single match is allowed to be wasted, the system of placing smrufs into their correct MMR in 4- to 10 Matches?????! imagine you gonna ruine 10 matches per smurf and calling that an improvement?! smurfs literally derank their accounts and play again so yeah this doesn't affect anything, I'm just so so sick of these Reynas who ruines every single game, I swear if they lock reyna for 1 month, the smurf percentage will drop to 0%.

I like how their trying to fix it but things aren't always so perfect. What if a person is new to valorant but their mechanical skill is just good? Shoudn't they run through the ranks properly instead of already getting boosted to high ranks without having knowledge or complete understanding about the game? What their doing is good but they should also see the potential problems in their patches.

I don't know why they don't simply limit normal ranked to solo/duo, and have a separate ladder for duo/tri/5-stack. League already solved the 5-man boosting problem, no idea why Valorant can't just use that knowledge. It sounds like the new system is more like Clash in League, which is awesome to see coming, but it doesn't address any smurfing or boosting issues.

They need to re do the math for the balancing of 5 stack matches. All my mates are high plat low diamond I was stuck in gold 3 for the longest time due to this. As soon as we did a 5 stack riot goes: huh? A gold 3, 3 plays and, diamond 1? Better pair them with 3 plats, 1 silver and 1 freaking inmortal.
In what world having a silver makes up for an inmortal in a plat lobby? Sure they have a dude that can’t even shoot right but they’re inmortal Chamber is mopping the floor with our asses by himself (not to mention half the time the silver is not really a silver)

tbh smurfing is the last thing i care about. they need to just fix the game. 0 reason why anyone with any type of gun should be able to hold and spam A and D while spraying. phantom and specter is even worse
True as an immo 3 player . I get killed by lowrank botfrags when i play with friends. The game is literLly perfectly noob friendly
