    Such an awesome vehicle, I test drove one recently and was amazed how well it was designed. Mitsubishi really missed the mark with their marketing in the US.

      I think Mitsubishi dropped the ball on the underpowered engine options. The Montero was a beautiful snail. I still think ill buy one in the near future because no one needs speed in a blizzard.

      @@nevanmoses7208 - They really dropped the ball (2003-2006) by removing the LSD and not offering a rear locker. Electronic traction control is not enough for off-road.

      I am planning to buy a Montero Sport 2003 now in 2020. Is it safe to buy such an old vehicle now? How is reliability? In my country land cruisers are damn expensive and the only choices for me are RAV4 2002 and Montero Sport 2003. I love the RAV4 but Montero Sport has the better ground clearance and 7 seats. I have no doubts about the RAV4's reliability. But I am unaware of Montero Sports. Please help me with your opinion.

      On this trail we used 4H all they way. I was messing around a lot just to test new tires. Fun trail especially after a little rain. Definitely try it out. Thx for watching

      @Slash1066 6 лет назад +1

      Wow, i really thought you would have needed 4HLC at least on those parts where the front wheel lifted off to keep the power going to the back wheels. Impressive it can carry on like it did with no Locked Diffs at all. I have the same car, mines a 2006 Shogun (as they are named here in the UK) with the 3.2 diesel engine, love it.

    AWESOME! Love my 2003 Limited 25th Anniversary. I've gone more places with this SUV than I could have imagine. The best part of it all is some of my friends have 25-35,000$ Jeeps and 4 Runners and my $5,500 Montero can do it all just as well with more room to boot! The car is a little gem and I hope to have it for some time to come.
    EDIT: Question, what drive mode were you in for most of your driving? I've been on some moderate trails and where I am usually in 4 Low Lock I find that just 4H or 4H with center lock is all you really need. The only time I need low range and the extra grunt is when I'm in some really messy stuff and up steep terrain and it helps.

    • @zippycar2020
      @zippycar2020  7 лет назад +2

      Yeah you're right. Montero is definitely a great alternative to $30K+ Jeeps and 4Runners. It is beautifully engineered and I perform most of work on it myself. This is Mitsubishi's one of the last greatest creations before they had major financial crisis in early 2000s so they put a lot of money and effort into Montero. Most of my offloading I do in 4H. 2WD when I want to have some fun mudding (unfortunately computer kicks in a lot even when traction and stability is off) 4H C/D Lock when don't want to get stuck and 4L C/D Lock when go steep uphill. Thanks for watching!

      Agree. I bought my 06 for 5300, and have driven it from Florida to New Jersey, the Carolinas, and Arkansas, for the smooth on road ride and off road capability, and price, it cannot be beat.

    I have a 2004 Limited with BFG's A/T's and I take it off road (light to medium difficulty) every weekend, it's an awesome machine!
    You said that yours have Old Man Emu suspension?
    How good is it?
    I ask because i found the Montero has a tendency to vibrate quite a lot with irregularities on the road (on and off road)
    Someone told me that upgrading to Old Man Emu will make it worst (meaning more vibration), and others tell me the opposite, that will became softer...
    What do you think, should I upgrade the suspension or not?

    • @zippycar2020
      @zippycar2020  6 лет назад +1

      OME is amazing!!! Not only it gives your 2" lift, but also replaces old, soggy original shocks/struts firms and improves ride quality on and off road. You gonna probably have to order the kit from Australia and wait for about a month before it gets to you, but this is exactly what we did. Good luck finding it in US. Price is great too. Shocks, struts and springs all under a grand. You can opt for softer springs when ordering the kit, they have several options. We chose the hardest ones, because would like to upgrade for heavier bumpers and extra equipment later down the road, softer springs will give softer ride, but they are not designed for heavy upgrades. But even with heady duty springs traveling on highways is pleasant. Off road though don't forget to bleed your tires according to the terrain for better comfort and performance, that's it. If you have time and money go for it, no doubt, especially if you enjoy going off road. Thanks for watching!
