Willis and Arnold were adopted by the rich white man. They love each other very much. And the woman is their housekeeper, who is basically part of the family.
Ahhhhh! Now it all makes sense. Thanks!!!
@@brittreacts And she (Mrs. Garrett) had a spin-off show called The Facts of Life!!
@@brittreacts The theme song tells all :)
Also, Willis and Arnold's mother was the previous housekeeper. She died shortly before the first episode aired.
@@brittreacts You should consider watching an important episode of Diff'rent Strokes called the bicycle man with your daughter. I won't write what it's about because my comment will probably disappear.
Arnold & Willis mother was the older gentleman's (Mr. Drummond) housekeeper, Lucy Jackson( real life mother of Willis actor, Todd Bridges). Her deathbed wish was that Mr. Drummond would take care of her sons & he ended up adopting them
Also FYI Mrs. Garrett went onto another big 70's show The Facts of Life with Tootie ( Kim Fields) and Nancy Mckeon about life growing up in girl school If I remember correctly
"Arnold" was actually 10 yrs old when he started that show. His kidney condition made him look younger and the networks loved it.
The actress who played Mrs. garrett the maid went on to star in the spin off series Facts of Life. Where she worked at an elite all girl school
If you grew up in the 70's and 80's then you knew Gary Coleman. He was a superstar and an icon. He even had his own cartoon. Great child actor who had a lot of issues as he got older.
Knowing what we know now with all that is going on with child actors and Hollywood, it wouldn't surprise me if he was handled inappropriately.
@@sxm76 Todd Bridges was and has talked about it publicly. Don't think Gary did but who knows.
Fun trivia: This show was so popular, Gary Coleman guest starred in a couple of episodes of Buck Rogers to help boost the ratings.
This is interesting. The 2 boys were from harlem and were taken in by mr drummond. Their mom worked for him and she died so he took them in. Mr drummond is a widower who has a daughter kimbrely , she becomes the boys sister of sorts. Mrs garret was only for a season or so as the drummonds firsr housekeeer, she left the show to make mrs garrett the star of the spin off called The Facts Of Life, a popular show you may have heard of
Gary Coleman was an actor of small stature. He could play a little kid well into his late teens and early 20's. He was 10 years old when he was cast in this sitcom. Todd Bridges, who played his older brother Willis, was a child actor of the 70's and unfortunately had a rough life later on as far as drugs and legal problems that sent him to jail. Dana Plato, who played their sister Kimberly, was another victim of the child actor syndrome. later in life she became addicted to drugs, committed armed robbery and dabbled in the adult film world. Positive sidenote......later in the series Janet Jackson played Charlene who is Willis' girlfriend
I remember watching this as a child brings back so many memories
Nice!
Arnold (Gary Coleman) also played on an episode of Good Times; it was season 6 episode 5 "Florida gets a job" check it out Gary Colman is hilarious in that episode. On the latter episodes of Different Strokes, Janet Jackson played Willis's girlfriend.
If I recall, they lived in a penthouse on Park Avenue.
They were the previous housekeeper's kids and when their Mom died their boss adopted them. They also have a white sister. They live in a New York penthouse. The woman is their live-in housekeeper.
Mr. D is Mr. Drummond. They don't call him Dad until later seasons they loved each other
This show ran from 1978 to 1986. It is set in New York in a Park Avenue penthouse. Willis and Arnold are originally from Harlem but moved to Park Avenue after they are adopted by gazillionaire Phillip Drummond. During the first couple of seasons the boys keep their friends from their old neighborhood while they get adjusted to their new home and have them over from time to time.
They're on Park Ave in the upper east side $$. 8th ave is on the west side and there are many different characters populating that area.
YOU ARE IN FOR A JOURNEY.
First of all, the premise of this show is bananas.
It’s set in the 80’s
Robin Thicke’s dad, Alan Thicke, wrote the theme song.
Mrs Garrett is the housekeeper
It’s the same Mrs. Garrett in The Facts Of Life, which is a spin-off of Dif’rent Strokes
Check out the pilot episode if you can find it as well Arnold wetting the bed & the episodes with Janet Jackson.
I'm 51 years old and I still say "Whatcha talkin about Willis?!"
Do you do the face when you say it?
@@Ilikeryche Absolutely! 😂
@@pumpkinhead34 Lol, me too.
We say it all the time too!
Funny Story, my sister got hit on by Arnold (Gary Coleman) back in the 90's, at Speed Zone in City of Industry. And I saw Gary Coleman a different time, at a model train store in Brea CA. R.I.P. Gary Coleman.
Oh wow!
Mr. D also has a biological daughter named Kimberly who is around Willis age. Willis is the older boy. Arnold is the youngest.
This was a great series. Everyone loved it in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The show was so successful that it produced two spin-off series, "The Facts of Life" and "Hello, Larry" that were were also pretty good, well, at least one of them was.
Mr Drummond the adopted dad
Ms.Garrett the Maid
Kimberly adopted sister and real daughter of Mr Drummond
Willis and Arnold’s mother died and was Mr Drummond former maid and promised her to take care of them when she died. This show officially debuted in 1978
Back in the day, we watched Gary Coleman, Emmanuel Lewis in Webster, and Little Rodney Allen Rippy.
Later on in the show, Janet Jackson played a character/part that became Willis's (Todd Bridges) girlfriend.😊
Yes, Gary Colman was really cute. At the time Arnold the character was 7 Gary Colman the kid actor was 11 years old. He was small for his size because when he was 5 years old he got a new Kidney. Durning the run of the show he would need another one.
Arnold played by Gary Coleman had kidney disease. The medicine used to treat it stunted his growth at 4’8”.
Gary Coleman who had various health issues young that even though he was older gave him a child like appearance. Todd Bridges (Willis) can be seen today on the show "World's Dumbest...."
Yes, the characters are adopted by Mr, Drummond, who also has a teenage daughter. Mrs, Garrett was tree housekeeper. And, her character even got a spinoff show in the 80s called "Facts of Life"
Arnold's catch phrase was "Whatcha talk'in bout Willis"
And yes this was a 70s show. Also, in the 70s & 80s Gary Coleman was the highest paid child actor on TV
Sad note Todd Bridges is the only living cast member
@@mellycook I know. Fortunately for Conrad Bain (Mr Drummond) & Charlotte Rae (Mrs Garrett) both lived long lives. Him 89 & her 92. But we lost Gary Coleman at 42 & Dana Plato (Kimberly Drummond) at 34. Gary from a brain hemorrhage, & Dana from her own demons.
@@TruckerMike_FL ya it was really sad.
The other character who was not in this scene is their white older sister Kimberly Drummond, Mr. D’s daughter.
You should definitely watch the first episode or two of this show in their entirety just to get the full premise of the show clear. It was fairly ambitious for its time to address class differences.
Diff'rent strokes and Facts of Life (the maid got her own show).
Gary Coleman died 28 May 2010 age 42
Dana Plato died 9 May 1999 age 34.
Oh that's a show I remember. Childhood memories there....
Its crazy how this was almost 50 years ago and although the plots have definitely dated . A lot of the jokes especially arnolds are still hilarious in 2024
Wills and Arnold sons of Mr. Drummond late maid. She asks him to take care of boys. The boys father had died a few years early. Mr. Drummond first acted as their foster father and then he adopted them. He also has a daughter, and the woman is the new maid.
I loved this show once a week after school … happy days ❤
You’re pretty good at this. If you’ve never seen an episode wow you got a lot. Mr Drummond adopted the two boys they were his late housekeepers children. Mrs.Garret was the domestic (played beautifully by veteran character actress Charlotte Rae). There was a sister (Drummond own daughter) played by Dana Plato who had a very tragic story as a child actress. Very cute very funny show that did on occasion touch some pretty deep topics. You hit the timeframe pretty square the show ran from 1978-1985.
“Whatchu talkin’’bout, Willis!?!”
Mrs. Garrett is the maid. Mr. Drummond is a widower.
This was always one of my favorite shows & Fat Albert, The Jeffersons.
I grew with people thinking I looked like ARNOLD or Webster. I genuinely have a smile on my face every time I see them.
For the last few years, Jimmy Kimmel and Producer/creator Norman Lear showed live episodes of shows like Different Strokes, All in the Family, The Jeffersons and The Facts of Life using modern actors. It was titled "Live in Front of a Studio Audience" and this one took place in 2021 with Kevin Hart as Arnold and Damon Wayans as Willis. Snoop Dog was the friend and John Lithgow was Mr. Drummond. It was a bit trippy but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Kevin Hart playing Arnold is what made it really funny imo
They live in a penthouse on park Avenue Mrs Garrett was like House keeper and Kimberly the adopted sister daughter of Mr Drummond
I think it's explained in the first episode that Mr. Drummond's former housekeeper was a single mother who passed away unexpectedly (due to illness, I think) and she asked him to please make sure her sons were taken care of. He promised, and later adopted her sons to keep his promise. His current housekeeper is Mrs. Garrett, who later leaves the show to work at an all-girls school, spawning the spin-off show The Facts of Life (which I loved as a kid!). :)
Gary Coleman, who played Arnold, was 10 when the show started, but I think Arnold's supposed to be 7 or somewhere around that age. He suffered from a congenital kidney disease that halted his growth, so he remained small into adulthood. Sadly, he passed away in 2010 at the age of 42.
What's not to love about this show? Watch any / all of the episodes! Probably an easy clip to find on RUclips is the one of Kimberly (Mr. Drummond's daughter) going to a school dance and what goes wrong (don't want to spoil it). Oh, Mr. Drummond ran a transportation company in NYC, I think. CEO or something along those lines. Very rich guy. X)
Another show Janet Jackson was on, she was Willis's girlfriend in season 4 or 5 i believe. Mr. Drummond adopted Arnold and Willis, Mrs. Garrett is the housekeeper
Girl, lol. How is it that you have not heard anything about this show. You didn’t even have to watch any episodes back then to just know about it, especially Gary Coleman. And you haven’t never heard or known about Facts of Life that Ms Garret was on? I’m so glad I was a child of the 80’s. It was just the greatest decade ever with TV shows, songs, movies, etc.
Mr. Drummond is an older single rich man who adopted the two brothers. The woman is their housekeeper. The actor for Arnold is Gary Coleman who, due to a kidney disease, which means he looked really young even when he was an adult. He was 10 when Diff'rent Strokes started and it ran for 8 years. Mr. Drummond is a wealthy Park Avenue businessman, so definitely loaded.
They live in a penthouse on park Avenue
might wanna think about this when this first came on I think we had 3 channels to choose from and episodes came out weekly, everything on demand now is a whole nother world
just here enjoung the memberberries : there is an entire world that us at 45 have experienced that its crazy people born even as late as 88 do not know it used to be 65 and 20 wasa huge gap now its down to 40 and 20 the world is moving so fast.
I think her name was Mrs. Garrett and his is Phil Drumred! The boys parents died tragically! And he adopted them. And Mrs. Garrett was his house keeper and maid. And now she's the nanny. Willis is Todd Bridges and I can't remember Arnold's real name. He had some kind of condition, that makes him look younger than he actually is! And it's early 80's. I used to watch this regularly!
By the time this program aired I was in my 20's and did not catch up until the 80 when kids came into my life. Still I like everyone knew Arnold/Gray Coleman.
Janet Jackson was in this show for a while too
What?!
Andrew Dice Clay was a character on the show.
My favorite episode of this is when Mohammed Ali was a guest star.
You need to watch or react to the first episode, the pilot, so you can see how it all started
Watch the intro to the show, it explains so much
More Diff'rent Strokes - - and then, of course - - The Facts of Life!!
You haven't been introduced to Mr. D's biological daughter Kimberley yet.
I’ll stay tuned!
Arnold (Gary Coleman) was a short statured man. There was also a show called Webster, with another adopted, short statured, adorable black child. Now that I think about it, it was an odd trend back in the day. 😂
Don't forget Rodney Allen Rippy. Emmanuel Lewis played Webster
Arnold used to pull the funniest faces 😂
The kids on the show really had some real-life issues. However, this was must-see stuff back in the early 80s
Yeah the bicycle man is a very dark episode from this show.
Great show
Do a video on The Bicycle Man. It's as important today as it ever was
Definitely check out some Facts of Life!
"Watch you talkin about Willis"
Should have watched the intro ruclips.net/video/kK1MhqugRYg/видео.html. 60s and 70s shows usually had intros/Theme songs that told you what the show was about. Which was really nice. We didn't have the internet to look up what a show was about. Todd Bridges was great in two episodes on two shows back then that were almost the same. One in "Little House on the Prairie", and one on "The Waltons". In both he was a little boy traveling by himself, and ends up being taken care of by the family until they find out where he belongs. Both such good episodes. Todd was great in both.
Yes!!!! Have I told you that you are awesome? Used to watch this as a kid! "Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis?" Janet Jackson plays Willis's girlfriend. Also recommend the spinoff, The Facts Of Life. Charlotte Rae, the first maid from Different Strokes, left that show to start the spinoff, where she was in charge at an all girls school
Charlotte Rae plays Mrs. Garrett, they live in a penthouse & Mr. Drummond has a biological daughter named Kimberly (who isn't in this episode)
The show ran from 1978 to 1986
Arnold is the little one
I used to fancy their step sister Kimberly 😂
Willis & Arnold hairstyle . Afro' s. The 70s.
You think about getting your PI's license?
Mr. Drummond
Unfortunately, Coleman (Arnold), Bridges (Willis) and Plato (Kimberly) became the most cited examples of how fame, drugs and money destroys the real lives of child actors.
They sold the house to the Cosbys 😂
Not getting notifications from your channel when I should be...
I think Gary Coleman was actually 12 or 13 years old here.
The two white folks in the clip are his adopted dad and his dad's housekeeper Mrs. Garrett.
80’s
Sadly. Dana Plato, who played the sister had a difficult time in life. We lost her at a young age. The entertainment business has screwed up a lot of young lives. Gary Coleman had a tough time in life the show ended.
@BrittReacts Hi Britt I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!! (You finished your hair again awesome! Either way you have your hair and personality and everything makes beyond measurements together! I am six minutes 44 seconds into the video and you asked two questions so I’m gonna try to answer. A few were here we are in the kitchen Now just cooking and more mature for his age she had six or eight. GARY COLEMAN IS A DWARF MEANING THAT HE WILL NOT GROW MUCH TALLER THAN YOU RIGHT THERE. HE WILL BE NOTICE. WE TOLD HIM NOT MUCH TIME PASSED AWAY A FEW YEARS AGO. HE FELL DOWN SOME STAIRS IN HIS HOME.) NOW YES, THEY ARE IN A VERY NICE HOME. IT IS A PENTHOUSE IN NEW YORK. THEY ARE ADOPTED BY MR. PHILIP DRUMMOND BECAUSE WHEN THEIR MOTHER WHO USED TO BE MR. DRUMMOND’S MAID AND VERY GOOD FRIEND KEYWORD MADE AND VERY GOOD FRIEND PASSED AWAY HE PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF THEM TO THE VERY BEST OF HIS ABILITY, AND SHE DIDN’T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO HAVE THEM? WILLIS IS THE OLDER BROTHER. They also have al sister who is the biological daughter of MR NOBODY Philip Drummond. MRS. EDNA GARRETT IS THEIR HOUSE MAID CARETAKER, AND FRIEND! LATER IN THE SERIES, SHE MOVES ON THE FACTS OF LIFE AND BECOME THE MOTHER TO LISA WELCH AS BLAIR NANCY MCKEON AS JO POLNAH-CHECK KIM FIELDS AS TOOTIE ETC., IN THE FACTS OF LIFE TV SERIES) but I’m going way ahead of myself. Sorry about that. AND FOR GOING ON SO LONG JUST LIT UP A LOT OF MEMORIES FOR ME. THE VERY FIRST EPISODE WAS FILMED IN 1977. IT WAS ON THE AIR AND 78 AND IT WENT TO 1985 PICKED UP SOMEONE AGAIN BACK IN 86 FOR THE LAST TOO LONG. ARNOLD GREW UP AND OTHER THINGS CHANGE. DANA PLATO, THE ACTORS WHO PLAYED SISTER KIMBERLY, WHO IS THE BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER OF MR. PHILLIP DRUMMOND, SHE OVERDOSED SOME YEARS AGO AFTER THE SHOW ENDED BRIDGES WHO PLAYED WILLIS. HE GOT INTO SOME FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY AND DIFFICULTY WITH THE POLICE GARY COLEMAN ARNOLD ALL THE MONEY HE MADE FROM THE SERIES HIS PARENTS MESSED UP FOR HIM. THEY WORKED FOR HIM. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR HIM AND THEY DIDN’T SO HE SUED THEM, but never saw any $13 million over the years.
Ready for you🍀🍀🐧❤️
