John Lennon's death shocked me and I wasn't even born then
I'm gonna assume that you're kidding...
Yes me too hahaha
I am like you, I wasn't born, til after John Lennon's murder, but why didn't anyone stop Mark David Chapman from killing John Lennon, as he stalked him for months, before killing 1 of the world's most famous musicians ?.
@@Lubbylove89 no its true I was the same. Was born in 98' but in like 05 or some time like that when someone told me that this musician I dug was fucking assassinated 25 years ago I was shocked. Like that kind of ahit just doesn't happen to celebs y'know.
He was murdered not assassinated
he was clearly still upset talking about it. sad
........ I was a kid living in the same city (New York City {Manhattan}) where he was killed. I remember thinking how could such a huge icon like that be killed. I remember watching peoples faces in my neighborhood of all races just becoming very humble and did NOT joke around for days after that. If someone was arguing with someone else and the name Lennon was brought up, it was enough to end the argument about something else. It was amazing to watch how deeply sad we New Yorkers were and everyone was wearing the New York City T-Shirt Lennon made famous. When Elvis died it was different because Elvis was really overweight and everyone knew he was on a lot of drugs. So when Elvis died it wasn't a surprise. But, when Lennon died he had just released an album with songs like Women, Just Like Starting Over and The Merry Go Round. So everyone here in New York were getting ready for the announcement of his shows at our famous arena Madison Square Garden to see him perform his new songs. RIP John Lennon.
Paul McCartney lost his best friend, when John Lennon died. People will NEVER forget such a tragic event. Liverpool, and New York didn't lose a legend, the world lost 1, in my humble opinion.
I thought the same, I think there were more interesting questions to ask rather than this one, you can notice it still hurts him.
But I haven’t seen the whole interview, so maybe they had a reason to ask it.
An asshole murdered his friend, of course he is upset.
Yup his voice was so shaky 🥺
John Lennon will never be forgotten
Never say never. Of course he will be. There will also be a time when the Earth doesn't exist.
BayviewFinch thank you captain obvious.
Ricardo Miranda Well, clearly it wasn't that obvious to you.
+BayviewFinch true dat. This guy is getting a little too over dramatic..
John won't be forgotten, but his killer will
I think McCartney has handled this question very well over the years. His song, "Here Today" I think is his real answer. He is a public man and enjoys being with people and singing his hits and new songs. I think people have to remember he lost a friend; really a brother - Murdered in 1980. The man did not tour America again till 1990 - his last was 1976.
Harrison shut off his lovely home from visitors when Lennon was murdered. Till then, anyone could freely tour the gardens, might even run into George as he worked his land. Then up went the fences and wire after John was murdered. Harrison was almost killed in 2000 in a break-in even after all the security issues had been addressed. Harrison's son stated that the attack on his life worsened his ability to recover from his cancer. So, in my mind two Beatles were murdered... A band that always sang about love...
Yes well said
Poor George :( I had no idea
F. Scott Fitzhemingway george got attacked in 1999 not 2000
George...
Да
He almost cried. So sad ;-;
it made me cry
+NightJet (me too)
bullshit
No he didn’t!
I'm a dove, grrr John was his best friend, imagine losing your best friend the man who you formed a band and career with.
They mustve asked him this about 100000000 times already im sure hes sick of talking about it
Paul McCartney is known for a few other thing besides some guy who knew John Lennon
+ogbkballa ....Obviously Sir Paul's agent tells these people what questions he doesn't want to answer.. Funny Sir Paul and Ringo didn't show up for Lennon's 75th charity gig.. Yoko forgot to ask Pete Best and he actually played with john while most of the other superstar performers never even met Lennon
+D. Brown I think you misunderstood what he said.
He wasn't saying that's what Paul was known for. He was saying he is known for more than that. He's saying he isn't just some guy who knew John Lennon.
+JazzKeyboardist1 They probably didn't show up for the very reasons you stated, or the fact that as former Beatles they are very busy.
i WISH only once he just came up with a Lennonism like "Well a man on a flaming pie landed at my door and coughed for 4 hours . As I was ready to go back in , he undressed showing a rather tiny penis and said.
The one John Lennon is no longer.... Now he is Peter Kringle and works at a carnival in New Zealand. He wants YOU to keep all the money , give some to Julian and tell Yoko I (John) shall shit on her grave if the witch ever dies. and with one reverential wave of his cape (Oh he did have a cape) he sang "Hey Dude". and just grabbed a bus.Which I found interesting.
It's important that he keeps retelling it so that we don't forget and we don't forget that moment whether you were aware of the moment or not or not even born yet. I was 6 or 7 when Lennon was shot and the tv stations played the Beatles' Yellow Submarine for months in the Bay Area on channel 2 and that's how I first heard the Beatles and I've loved them ever since.
I've heard Paul McCartney get called everything under the sun saying how he's so arrogant & so full of himself. I've never really got that & this interview shows (along with many others) show that he's a genuine guy.
For what he has accomplished in his life, he's not arrogant at all.
He "was" that kind of guy
Even if he is, he’s Paul McCartney. He’s done everything. It would be hard not to be
His voice trembles when he got to Linda... what he has gone through is just cruel... I'm so glad he's happy and healthy!
I lost my best friend when we were 27. Hearing Paul talk about John breaks my heart. It’s hard to describe that pain to others.
I know how it feels to lose someone you love.
man, i bet Paul and Ringo are tired of getting asked the exact same question every time someone interviews them.
YEAH !😣
I think John's death came as a shock them all, including George, before he died, as he was stabbed in his own home. Ringo, and Paul will never forget the legacy that John, and George had left behind.
Agree. So hard and stupid.
@@michaelasquith9791 George said he was hoping that the gunshots were wounds that he’d recover from as said he missed hanging out with him and said that they’d see each other again down the line.
I think they're used to it. Now in their late 70s, with grown children and nothing to prove, it looks like they actually want to talk about their past and legacy at this point in time.
Always the same questions to Paul, hes been answering for the last 35 years. If only I could exchange some words with him. I would ask much more interesting questions
+464528 And when you asked him far more interesting questions, you will still ask about John Lennon.
+464528 Well, I'm sure he totally understands it. That was his best friend and songwriting partner, when it comes to Beatles history or music history in general, you can't have one without the other. If the same thing had happened to Paul instead, then John was going to be the one answering that question for the rest of his life.
I wonder if the best songwriter of almost all time every thought about having his agent tell these interviewers which questions he is tired of talking about?.... Heather Mills says my point hasn't a leg to stand on
464528 what would you ask?
Kevin Shaughnessy he has no interesting question to ask 😂😂😂😂
Aw, Paul and Martin sitting next to each other makes my heart so happy.
Same :)
May i ask y?
ellie anderson Well, I'm a fan of them both. And Martin is a Beatles fan of course. He actually was at an event that Paul was at, once, and he mentioned how he would love to meet him. So it's really cool that he finally got to :)
And it's all thanks to Ricky Gervais!
The pain is still so sharp and you can see it in his eyes. I would never want him to relive that moment in his mind for the sake of an interview
The guy was a "jerk" for asking Paul that question AGAIN.
+PaulGreen11 Yeah man. The same depressing question for 35 years!
Obviously Sir Paul's agent could have told the interviewer before every show that he wants questions about Dead Beatles to Live and Let die
JazzKeyboardist1 Or something like that.
+BeatleTales I don't agree. Paul has given so much to us Beatles Fans, how much do we have a right to ask of him. He lost alot more than we lost with John, let him have some memories of John for himself. We dont deserve it all.
+BeatleTales Well there's a reason why he keeps saying that. He clearly doesn't want the entire world to share his private and intimate feelings. I'd really like to know that too about how he felt, what he said, if he cried a lot or not, but being such a delicate part of his life, I totally comprehend him. What a great man, he will never stop being my reference point in life.
he seems like he's about to cry aww :'-(
+Poop McStuffins Awesome name you got there..
+Poop McStuffins I'm probably wrong but I'm really curious - Is that John in your profile pic?
I think Paul McCartney was scared of getting shot, himself. The day after John Lennon had died, Paul McCartney went to work, as normal, and there was a massive police presence, and the journalists wanted their input. When he was asked about John's death, he said, "It's a drag". I think he was still in shock, as it was an early morning telephone call, that woke him up. The comment about John's death being a drag was Paul's way of saying "It's a shock", in my humble opinion.
Jerk Of All Jerks
Martin Freeman and Paul McCartney, my two favorite people in one couch. Fantastic.
RIP John Lennon 😭
Its hard to think about it. John Lennon was Pauls close friend more than anything. Thats stronger than being a bandmate. They had an incredible success story together and sharing that amazing journey as friends must have been magic. I wasnt even born when John died. And still I cry. Imagine how hard it must be for Paul. I feel for him. Good man.
He was gonna cry ....I feel so bad
I'll NEVER forget that day. I still cry. Paul's voice sort of changed for a moment.
I'm not crying, my eyes are just sweating :(
When I heard about John's death...I cried.....Its so sad...Knowing How people can be so crazy to kill Other people
Paul hates talking about John's death
Alana H I would too
Can you honestly blame him? I mean, he lost one of his best and closest friends in one of the most horrific and unncessary ways possible. You can see how painful it is for paul to talk about this subject.
Paul does hate people asking that same question for nearly 38 years. You can tell how much Paul misses John, his singing, and songwriting partner, the 2 of them, together, Lennon, and McCartney wrote some of music's greatest, and best loved songs. Not only that, it was a partnership that would change music forever. Their partnership in music terms, was simply magical. They inspired kids of the 1960s, 1970s, and beyond, to pick up guitars, and write songs. They influenced Queen, Oasis, and Blur, to name, but a few bands, in my humble opinion.
@@michaelasquith9791 I love Queen And Beatles...
Who would like?..
I remember growing up listening to Beatle songs as a kid and not even knowing John had died 12 years before I was born. This was back when George was still with us, and then when he died, I was genuinely so upset and somehow during that time I come to learn about John's death too. It was like half of The Beatles had died at the same time which is a weird thing for a 9 year old to digest... and to then learn how John had died, I was utterly crushed.
Hues eyes are glazed with tears, they were best friends, brothers
So sad
oh boy, i just love him so much
so sad to see him still getting upset :( also the production team probably asked Paul before hand if Jonathan could ask that question. You can't really ask something like that out of the blue, which would air on TV. That's my opinion anyway.
I was 15 when John was taken .. it still hurts to this day 😢💔
Heartfelt answer to a very difficult question.
Lennon-McCartney,arguably the best songwriting team in the history of music. I can't fathom how monumentally crushing that was for Paul to go through. I'm sure Ringo and George were no less gutted but Paul and John were birds of a feather.
Why is this making me cry I wasn’t even as close to john as paul was, god I wasn’t even thought of being born when he died.
just that first line that Jonathan says,,, you can hear the hesitation and the moment he says it my heart dropped
I remember the morning. Just before school, on the radio. No breakfast tv in those days. Never forget how I felt. We lived not far from Mendips at the time.
I notice Ross is doing the multiple guests on a chair thing like Norton, certainly much better, gets some interaction going.
Ross did the mutiple guests 20 years ago. So no not like Norton.
Yes it is
This show though just looks like Rossy just directly copied an American talk show studio and he's a really poor interviewer because he just likes to hear his own voice too much.
***** This is typical of British chat shows
+Michael Parker He did. His former "Late night with Jonathan Ross" was a direct copy of David Letterman's format. He's aped it ever since. Ross lacks Letterman's easy charm though. He's too keen on controversy and exploiting easy targets. I once watched him interview a guest who didn't actually get to complete a full sentence. He's not unintelligent, but he is a dick. I can't get on with his personality at all. I find him endlessly irritating.
Paul and john ❤were my fav among the beatles
i wasnt born when john died but god i miss him i wish he had got the chance to release some more music for this world
Same...😔💔
A wee lump in Pauls voice there.
I think he probably bottled up johns death for years.
You can tell in all his interview he holds it in
Ulysses M.
a1974h
who wouldnt i mean Paul and John were bestriends until 1970 when the beatles broke up, in 1974 they made an album together in 1976 he was at johns place and watched football with him and the next four years until 1980 they only talked on the phone.
I think Paul misses John for inspiration, and guidance, in my humble opinion. Paul referred to the other 3 Beatles, as his "brothers", John, as his "middle brother", Ringo, as his "big brother", and George, as his "little brother".
@@UlyssesM especially in the 1982 interview where his lip quivered listening to Beautiful Boy
Duro momento para Paul y para todos los que amábamos a The Beatles. Saludos desde Chile.
I was 19 and I remember it felt weird like the world was different after John’s death, we had already lost Bon Scott and John Bonham and I was gutted particularly about Bon, but I was too young to be a Beatles fan during the 60’s but my older sister and brother were devastated, when John died it felt like the end of an era.
When I found out that John died I cried hard 😭😭😭 rip John Lennon
i love paul he deserves the world and deserves to be healthy
the beatles wont be forgotten ever!
Paul i love you :) amazing all the music you have created and you never stopped more than 50 years now, your grandchildren must be so proud of you
My son got a chance to see John McCartney at an event and he was nice enough to say hello and talk about the weather. He is very sweet and genuine.
You know it's so sad for me to see 104 thumbs down on this video. It breaks my heart.
You can tell that remembering this still hits him hard. :(
I love watching the other 3 just sitting there like "oh my god I'm sitting next to sir paul McCartney"
Keep Rockin Sir Paul music God 🎸.
Love you Paul, and love you John and George and Ringo.
Love The Beatles ❤
Has anyone ever noticed how no one ever harasses Julian? It's ALWAYS Paul and Ringo who are asked about John
beatle fan forever....
the beatles song writing, playing instrumnts singing especially the harmonies set the bar for every musician after them......
they are still the whole package band ever..
Enormous respect for Sir Macca. Genuine genius and one of a kind.
Love this interview.
Paul should finish Now and then. Love all the Beatles.....
I get that these hosts have to ask interesting questions, but there's already so many interviews of Paul talking about what he experienced on that terrible night. He probably gets sick of having to tell that story so damn much.
There is a "Imagine" memorial in new york city. In tribute to John Lennons Song "Imagine". He wont ever be forgotton until the world ends. John lennons legacy and his name will live on for many centuries to come! 😊
Paul has a cool mullet! :)
MY HEART
My father told me about how John Lennon died today and I was so upset I really love the Beatles and I’m 12 but wow they are incredible 😭
I don't even remember how I found out, feels as if I always have.
Thanks for sharing
Hopefully might see him. In heaven, imagine that.
Omg I get to see this man in 2 weeks
Paul è sempre sincero 😊
I love his speaking voice.
If you look closely, you can see that Paul had tears in his eyes while talking about John's death.
My brothers, and I took the day off from school. My oldest brother was just torn up about it. He couldn’t stop crying, and so neither could me, or my other brother. It was a very sad day. We found out from “Good Morning America” before we were suppose to leave for school. It was winter, so we wanted to know if it was going to be a snow day. Otherwise, we would have totally missed this.
Understatement of all understatements.
A jerk? I've been called that for bringing home the wrong tampons.
DolleHengst oh you too? 😂
Haha. Brilliant!
BAHAHAHAHAHA
I'm still upset about it and I wasn't even alive back then.
Friendship ❤
All across the universe There has Been only 4 Beatles , RIP John and George .
I still miss John Lennon.
That had to be hard for Paul.
I was born 4 years later after john was shot. It wasn't until I was 8 years old I was playing old Beatles tapes my dad gave me, that I asked about who sang one of my favorite songs on the tape, John- Paul-or George-? I used to love to guess which on was lead and which were harmonizing. When I was told it was John, and he was the only dead beatle at the time, I was shocked!!!! Even finding out 12 years later still was a shock because he had a way of capturing your imagination thru music.
A genius reminisces about another genius who were two friends who created great art...
Can they stop asking paul this question... jeez
If I kept getting asked about my murdered best friend, I'd get so annoyed and I would cry everytime... poor paul
R.i.p john and george
I love this man.
I was in Grade 12 and the next day,Tuesday morning, at school was very quiet.
imagine getting a phone call from someone telling you one of your bestest friends was shot dead
I appreciate that Paul would probably prefer to keep some of his thoughts about his friendship with John and his feelings about John's death to himself. It is perhaps to some degree a British way of dealing with tragedy, but lots of people, including myself, would prefer to keep some things private. We the public don't need to know everything. I suspect he thinks of John and George now and then, maybe he's in his car and a Beatle song comes on, and he thinks about something funny that happened in the studio that day. He's not obligated to be inconsolable for the rest of his life. Ask him how his kids are doing, or what new music he's working on.
The man!!! Sir Paul McCartney.
It's good to know McCartney wears timbs
Rest In Peace.
Im so saad😞😞😞😞
He almost cried, im sorry.
john lennon a legend forever💔
Im sad we don't have John and George with us anymore, but hey we still have Paul and Ringo 😊
love you paul!!!!!!!
God bless them all beatles ❤️
Being from and living in Massachusetts I was watching the Patriots vs. Dolphins play on Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell delivered the sad news. I was in my Senior Year at High School during that time so obviously it had me and the whole world dumbfounded. It was only fitting that Howard Cosell delivered the sad news as he and John Lennon were good friends at that time. I remember the general public's perception of this tragedy was, "Now the Beatles will never get back together." Really?? Seemed like that's all they cared about those 1st few days. Only the 1st few days though. Total tragedy.
I never thought I'd see Paul McCartney sitting next to Bilbo Baggins
Paul’s so old now. I remember comparing him and John.
This shit is making me cry!
You can tell it still hurts Paul to talk about it
Imagine having to constantly be reminded of one of your best friend’s death
I'm glad Sir Paul answers questions that no doubt is asked of him a Billion times! Others are, Why did the Beatles break up?, Was a reunion in sight?, can I get a selfie with you? The list goes on....
Kings of music ever:🎸🎹🎼r:
1)Elvis Presley
2)Michael Jackson
3)Paul McCartney
I would stick Freddie Mercury in that slot.
@@jopisano67yes absolutely
For me, Paul #1
How many times can he answer the same questions? Paul is patient.
I think water is coming out of my eyes.
How on earth PM tolerates and handles the repetition of questions he gets is to be admired.
My poor baby :[
They way paul said the killer is a Jerk gives me the impression that he wants to punch that killer or anybody for that matter. Make no mistakes, Paul may show a happy side of him, but inside he is full of sorrows and regrets. Regrets about not patching up with John earlier, regrets about making songs that diss john a bit.
So those people who insinuate that Paul is dead may be right in the way that Paul is dead inside.
miss the band
