I feel like she's talking about God in this poem.
You know how she says "If I could see you in a year."
She's basically thinking about when she will die.
    Plus she says:
"If certain, when this life was out---
That yours and mine, should be
I'd toss it yonder, like a Rind,
    And take Eternity---"
Which makes it a lot more likely.

@@adrianfortmoviereviewsbook9821 so sorry for the delayed response. Been working like crazy. I would say it's pretty high up there. I just love the flow of it. Poetry for me, is like listening to music. It's a feeling it gives you.

I really appreciate this commentary on one of my favorites.
But, don’t you think that you’re assuming that the person she is referring to doesn’t have a genuine connection with her as well? That he doesn’t feel the same?
Maybe in her days it would be pragmatic to move on. But the idea of this kind of love and romance is what she is conveying.
It’s not applicable to contemporary history.
I enjoyed the reading and certainly not trying to spark controversy. Just wanted to comment.

Poetry. It is a pity that nowadays hardly any young human can read with understanding..
