I hope N.I.N.A will introduce a native mobile app for controlling the software remotely at some point in the future. Maybe even with 2 modes- Basic for easy setup and control and Advanced for more in-depth tuning.
I've been doing this for a bit too, not so much for setup, but for checking in on things or polar aligning. Still, you taught me something "Tap-tap-drag" I've inadvertently done this many times without knowing the sequence that gave that behavior. Thanks!
Hi Cuiv, I just order the Mele computer to finally run NINA. Tonight I will do collimation of my RASA 8 based on your guide. I am printing a tri-bathinov mask for a fellow astronomer and am giving you my my earning from that. Thank you very much for all your hard work!
I'm biased some way, since I got my hands on a Lenovo Yoga laptop for free , which can be used as a windows tablet by folding the keyboard under and it has a touchscreen. Someone wanted to throw it away, because it didn't turn on and cracked at the hinges. But as far as screen size it's 13" (33cm) and such a perfectly sized device. Knowledge is power- such as fixing laptops and have them working fine. 😊
Starting with NINA on IPad made using it occasionally on the IPhone not too bad. It’s nice to check in and do simple stuff and get things started or make changes for sure.

I regularly use RDP on a tablet. It's great, but I find for 3-point polar alignment the laptop is much better just for the bigger screen size and saves a bit of time when there are the inevitable "dramas". And the default image screen is quite busy and I actually like the default.
Thanks Cuiv, I had to do things a little different (with a password), but it works, and no more dragging my laptop outside for 3 point alignment and PHD2 focusing.

To work via Internet, or ANY network, you need a network. You dont need to do any port forwarding or configuring routers, just have the miniPC broadcast a wifi. Cuiv has at least 2 videos on doing so.
I have been doing this for a while now. When I initally polar aligned in the observatory I had to do this. Now have a portable 14inch 4k touch screen which connects to the mini pc via USB C. I leave it disconnected when using remote desktop from in the house, but when out at the rig or in the field I connect the portable screen. Draws the power it needs from the mini pc via the USB C cable. Was $110Au on Amazon
Great that you introduce this way to control NINA. 👍 I use my Android tablet to control my mini PC on the scope which is running NINA via Remote Desktop. On the phone I did not try yet as the smartphone screen is so tiny. In order to be ready to interact with the mini PC I have set up the Remote Desktop to it on my tablet and also paralell in all my notebooks and stationary PCs. Just in case. 😉 So no matter what I do while imaging I can always check what is going on without searching a specific device. Helps me being lazy. 😄 As the online DB for the framing assistant I downloaded the Sky Atlas Repository and the Framing Assistant Cache for NINA. This gives me instant update in the Framing Assistant and the Sky Atlas without any waiting time. From all your videos I have learnt so much about astrophotography and especially about NINA plus running it on a mini PC. Thanks a lot for that! 🙏
@CuivTheLazyGeek definitely your videos have helped very many of us. Maybe you are going to have the mood to make the one or the other N.I.N.A. video. Something around the Advanced Sequencer or so. Some bit more sophisticated topic. I am sure there is for many people room for improvement on this module.
I've been doing this for quite a while now, but I use an iPad instead of a phone. I find that I can zoom in/out if things are a bit small and the screen scrolls around following my cursor movements, so no need to 'fudge' the resolution. I works very well..
I've been advocating for astrophotography applications on Android tablets and phones. The biggest issue is a usb3 input missing in Android parts. I use a surface pro 3 ($50 used) and it works perfectly because it's a hand held pc.
@@CuivTheLazyGeek have you also tried "Chrome Remote Desktop"? with the Google Remote App you can also remotely access a system which is running windows home, so no Pro version needed.
Hi Cuiv. I can control my eagle from my mobile phone via windows remote desktop but hardly use it these days because I find the screen and buttons on my phone to be too small, my eyes aren't what they used to be. If I need to adjust something while standing next to my scope then I will use my phone or tablet, but when imaging I transfer control to my laptop which also connects via remote desktop. Another thing I noticed was my wifi connection would usually drop out if I went back into my house with my phone, which of course doesn't happen with my laptop. Being able to control everything from your phone is obviously great if you are traveling to a dark site to image as you don't need to take a laptop. I still haven't got round to using N.I.N.A. yet, Sharp Cap V.4 does everything I need and is dead easy to use. For quick sessions using my grab and go set up, I just use an ASIAir mini, has to be the easiest way to control everything, so long as you are using ZWO equipment or supported mounts and DSLRs that is. Clear Skies
I basically do the same method for controlling my rig. I use a tablet instead of the phone primarily because of a bigger screen. I do occasionally run into two main issues. The first, RDP every now and then crashes on the tablet or phone. Just reboot the tablet, make sure on same wifi, run RDP and Im back up and running. The second problem I have to be careful. When re-connecting via RDP, like when I walked out of wifi range or the tablet was in sleep mode for too long, I will get a message saying that Im already connected, do I want to end that connection and sign on? DONT. Just reboot and re-run RDP on the device. If you do, it basically reboots the min -iPC and then gotta restart everything including setting up the sequence again.
That's pretty cool, I was not aware that Microsoft had a mobile version of the RDP software. I normally use Chrome Remote Desktop on my phone, which I do like because I can zoom in by pinching the screen so I don't have to fuss around with resolution differences, but I will admit that it is quite a bit slower than true RDP. However, I will also say that the wifi signal in my yard is quite poor, so I have the mini PC connected via ethernet and some times I have to just turn the wifi off on my phone and use my cellular connection to interface with the PC, which is one advantage of using Chrome Remote Desktop
Thanks a lot Cuiv, I bought a meele miniPC, I am waiting for the arrive and want to apply this tutorial. I used to use a Raspberry PI with Astroberry, but I tested N.I.N.A and it is amazing. Regards from Chile and clear skys

I use the IOS version of Microsoft Remote Desktop on my iPad. Unfortunately, the floating keyboard is not supported from what I can see. It would be useful when making changes to fields where the keyboard covers that area of NINA. I like chrome Remote Desktop just install it on all the devices you want to use it on and App Store on phone and that was it, don’t have to go into settings and mess with a bunch of things, just log on once and be on your way, the only thing I had to change in settings was to remove the mini pc log on password I had to turn off, so it will go like set up equipment, turn on laptop, turn on mini pc, on laptop go to the chrome remote desktop select the pc I want to control and then that’s it, when everything is done turn off laptop or exit the app and start using it on my phone while I’m at work to keep an eye on everything
Thanks for video. If somehow a Windows update is performed, it is necessary to update the rdpwrap.ini file. Without this, the RDP Wrapper service will not start, and remote desktop connection will not be possible.
I find RDP extremely useful! I am using it on iPad. Each time I connect from iPad I am asked to repeat user name and password. Don’t have to do that when connecting from my Widows 11 PC? How do I configure IPad to do the same? Thanks for your videos. I watch everyone!
I use the thig vnc server, its free and simple. And with that I bypass all windows anoyance. Then for the tablet/cellphone I use the real vnc viewer. Its amazing and really simple.
I'm struggling as a beginner with NINA as all the videos seem to have an older version of NINA that doesn't correspond tro mine. Have you a beginners video on NINA using the current 11/24 version Cuiv? Patrean maybe?
Yes, I just got my Mele Q 4C set up with all the software including NINA 3.0. I'm using a Pegasus Astro Ultimate Power Box V2 and it's supply power to my Mele Q4C. Works pretty well so far. Got the hotspot set up on it as well. Having a small problem with the Dithering failing. PHD2 Note 1 error. Not sure what that is. I'm just going to run the wizard again and see if it doesn't fix the problem. I had to add Hocus Focus back in. Evidently there was a new update that required adding the plugin back in. Just waiting for a clear night. ;o)
I'm still struggling with the 'no wifi router in the middle of nowhere' part. The Mele that's at the telescope- it needs to 'see' a wifi connection to create the hotspot right? Certainly I can't switch on hotspot without wifi coming on too; one wont work without the other. So I'm not clear from the video what connection the telescope PC uses once it's away from the home network. Can I just give it a hotspot from my phone, even if there's no data signal? Otherwise I think I followed everything else; I just haven't been able to cut the ties to my home wifi yet.
i hate that in nina you have to use another app to see the moon or stars. - so i went to the asiair . if u have all zwo equipment its kind of a no brainer but if not nina is fine and easy to learn and use
My setup is 200 feet from the House, when using a router does the router have to be connected to the internet for this type of setup to work? Thank You
Hello, I tried it many times from smartphone and tablet Android, but when I switch from one device to another one, I loose the NINA pop ups ( warnings or error pop ups usually displayed on the bottom right of the window). I have to restart NINA in order to recover these pop ups. It seems to occur when I try to display a NINA Session opened on a device with a given screen resolution (tablet for example) and switch to other device with a different screen resolution ( on a tablet or a smartphone ).
Voyager has had the ability to control the system from any web browser for years. No need to install anything. Just turn on the web server. I do not use it as I prefer to access my NUC with my laptop using a VNC connection.
I think it's another great tool in our belt for astrophotography. However, smartphone screens are a bit too small for these old eyes..😂 also, big hands and fat fingers don't help either. 😅 Great video, as always.
What find weird, even in 2024 are: 1) Why components don’t use only usb-c (power & data) 2) why laptop why arduino, if you have a powerful computer in your phone or pad

Love the hacker-ethic approach to passwords :)
Cuiv, you're a developer right? Have you read the book Hackers by Steven Levy?
Thanks man! I'm not a developer per se - I'll check out Hackers!
Thanks Cuiv.
hi aus nordgermany, schreibe dir in deutscht da mein englisch echt mist ist , danke für dein tollen videos, sind immer sehr informativ und sehr aufschlussreich, mach bitte weiter so,bis dahin clear sky
Thank you!
Chrome Remote Desktop is excellent! But I find it less responsive in difficult network conditions!
Thanks for video. If somehow a Windows update is performed, it is necessary to update the rdpwrap.ini file. Without this, the RDP Wrapper service will not start, and remote desktop connection will not be possible.
Oh no... Windows can be really annoying...
I find RDP extremely useful! I am using it on iPad. Each time I connect from iPad I am asked to repeat user name and password. Don’t have to do that when connecting from my Widows 11 PC? How do I configure IPad to do the same? Thanks for your videos. I watch everyone!
I'm not sure about iPad as I've never owned one!
Cuiv, can you recommend a 2" rack and pinion newtonian focuser for my GSO 6" F/4 telescope? The Crayford focuser is too weak
Unfortunately no, I'm not an expert in that domain! I will soon have a video about a new focuser for the Quattro 150P
This version is fairly recent though - shouldn't be too many changes. Otherwise one of my imaging live stream recordings could be interesting for you!
Just waiting for a clear night. ;o)
Fingers crossed everything works for your next session!
I use Nina via an old (2013) IPAD via remote desktop. Perfect size and convenience.
Have you tried astroberry? With Kstars on laptop/desktop
I have! Also Stellarmate
toujours aussi en pleine forme!
Toujours :)
When I read the headline I thought it might be a special 1 april like the one "LockPickingLawyer" made haha 😀
I thought you were going to say 'All that helps me broaden the scope of my.....scope' . Which may also be true 😁
😅
Windows 11 home will not allow Remote Desktop , at least in US. You will be directed to upgrade to Pro for $99.
Even with RDPWrapper?
@@CuivTheLazyGeek No soap on trying a work around. Perhaps there is something to do to make it work.
When I click to log-in, I get an error that a time of day restricition is preventing me from logging on. What is that??
Check this! www.anyviewer.com/how-to/time-of-day-restriction-remote-desktop-2578.html
@@CuivTheLazyGeek thanks! I thought I had disabled the no password function but it was on my main PC not the Mele. Fixed!
I think it's another great tool in our belt for astrophotography. However, smartphone screens are a bit too small for these old eyes..😂 also, big hands and fat fingers don't help either. 😅 Great video, as always.
Yep, i think tablets are a good alternative
AnyDesk works flawlesly.
What find weird, even in 2024 are:
1) Why components don’t use only usb-c (power & data)
2) why laptop why arduino, if you have a powerful computer in your phone or pad
Yeah, very true! At least the Quieter 4C is decently powerful
I've been using NINA this way for a couple years now with Team Viewer. 😂 😂
Windows is a hard nope for me here. Big points for Stellarmate for using Linux.
I use remote desktop on my firestick too so I have a big screen to check progress while in bed.
Checking progress in bed is excellent :)
@@CuivTheLazyGeek doesn't get any more lazy than that. You can pair a mouse with the fire stick to make it easier to control.
👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
A cheap tablet would work well too.
That doesn’t look like Texas!
I'm now in Oklahoma, but I scheduled videos for you guys :)
you make life complicated
Nah :)
Ich mag Deine Videos, aber es zu anstrengend, die Funktionen mit dem Smartphone auszuwählen. Das ist (für mich) nicht neu und kein Fortschritt. Sorry.
Sure it's not new, is that a problem?
dude go for a tablet!
That's too easy! Lol
