I got a kindle basic this summer after vacation. I saw an elderly lady who was reading on a ebook-reader on the plane and I couldnt read because I had no pysical book with me. And when I arrived home I got sick and spent two weeks at home. So my kindle was my gift to myself to feel better during illness. Currently I am reading Cornelia Funke‘s Ink Heart Trilogy
For me the lower eye strain is so important. Even if we don't notice eye strain, risking long term eyesight is a non negotiable. But yeah, beyond that for most of us a basic e-reader is all we need. I cannot justify replacing my old Sony reader even though it must be more than a decade old. It displays words. I read em.
You’re so right! I couldn’t feel the strain at all but did notice my eyesight worsening. Not something to be taken lightly. Love that your old Sony reader is still serving you after so many years!!
Jess, you need to set up a Libby account that links to your library and allows you to access books on your kindle! I have never read so much as I have since getting my kindle and Libby. Not having to physically go to the library to pick up and return books is so convenient. So glad you are loving it so much💕
I upgraded from my 2021 paper white to a 2024 kindle basic and I love it! I like you have small hands and it’s so much faster and lighter than my older one!!!
i love this video so much for showing the kindle up close, calmly talking about your experience with the kindle! it feels very relaxing and informative at the same time. the kindle basic is sooo cute and underrated! my only complaint about it is the lack of warm lighting, i don't like reading on it in the dark, even in dark mode. i also have a ppw with warm light and use it instead. except for that, the kindle basic is very portable, nice to hold, lightweight, cute and works perfectly fine!
I have been reading on my phone (s23 ultra) with sepia color and really enjoy it. I don't notice eyestrain much, but I feel like my far vision has gotten blurrier when I put my glasses back on. Also with loss of electricity from two hurricanes, my phone battery struggling to survive even with battery packs was glaring obvious. With these things in mind, I'll be getting a kindle, leaning toward the basic model since it's similar to my phone's size. You're the first person I've seen talk about moving from phone to kindle, and everything you mentioned was very relatable ❤

Such a fun video! I really love your personality! I was given the 3rd generation keyboard kindle as a gift over 10 years ago and I haven't looked back. I love the compact size, the ease of holding, and the adjustable font size. I currently have a 11th gen basic and I agree with all your points. I love it! I'm reading the second book in the stormlight archives by Brandon Sanderson. It's an epic high fantasy. I fully recommend it if you like high fantasy!

A kindle is a great investment for readers because the battery life is so long. It also allows you to read without distractions, helps you sleep better at night because of the display and it makes reading so fun

I replaced my kindle touch for kindle basic, had it since 2019 and its ever lasting love. Its compact and easily slip in my side pocket to read anywhere. Hold it with one hand with ease, nothing can be better imo
So, I almost got the basic yesterday because they were out of the paper white. I can’t decide which one I want, but I think my promax is too small. So I wanted to know if this was at least a little bigger than the phone. I know it measured at a wider six inches. I’m reading Stephen King Under the Dome and I’m not hooked, but I’m devoted to finishing the thousand pages.
I have a 13 pro max and that was one of my main concerns too! So it’s a bit shorter than my phone but wider. It feels like reading on a small paperback so quite a lovely size in my opinion!
@@plannedbyjysla yeah, I think that’s what I’ve gathered. Basic is like a paperback and paper white is like a hardback. My current plan is to get a paper white on Black Friday or cyber Monday.

I'll buy it! I was very torn between Basic and Paperwhite, then I decided I wanted the basic, give a chance to small size. Then I was like omg, should I get the new matcha color? I was going nuts because I saw on reddit this trend that people with the matcha were buying a pink cover and it looked SO cute! But tbh, this video made me realize, I'm really more into black and pink than many colors at once, so, I'm getting the basic in black and a pink cover!! Also, totally feel you when you say that it is obvious that you are reading when holding the kindle, unlike holding the cellphone. I get the exactly same feeling, and it's annoying! Vane, may be, but it makes me uncomfortable!

I always read on my phone on warm light and the warm light is REALLY more comfortable for me Does the kindle basic make up for the warm light on phone? I hate dark mode too And my budget is really limited since I'm still a student So it's either the new basic or the 11th ppw and I'm really scared not to like lacking the warm light😭
Ahh that’s hard to say. For me, I feel like the dark mode makes up for the lack of warm light. The lighting is not super blue or bright so it helps a lot, but it depends how sensitive you are 🥺 Definitely try to test in person if you can! I think there are some videos showing the screen at night also
What are your font and page settings? I really like how you have yours set up and would love to copy it when my own Basic comes in the mail tomorrow! Things like font, size, margins, alignment, yada yada... If you don't mind, of course!

There is some ghosting but I don’t mind it too much! There is a feature in reading options called ‘page refresh’ that clears the screen with every page turn - that might solve it for you! ☺️

I have a basic too and it’s all I need. Don’t need any bells and whistles, it is for reading. Mine allows me to listen to audible too. I can get ebooks on Libby to my Kindle also.
I have an old basic kindle without being backlit & find it’s easier to read on than the paper white or an iPad. I don’t like reading anything long than an email on a phone. Anyway, I always have several library books on the kindle while traveling 🧳

I might be wrong but it looks like Caecilia at size 4, with margins at lowest & spacing at highest. Biased but this is my personal setup 😅
