Very beautiful song in which Jeangu shows that there isn’t a route to happiness and life is not what you expect it to be. In addition, he is spreading awareness about mental health issues, something extremely common within this society. Good job the Netherlands!
After listening to this I have spent 15 minutes just sitting, staring, thinking, contemplating. Utterly speechless. I'm just blown away, First thing that came to mind was 'wow'. So powerful. I definitely wouldn't mind The Netherlands to win again. Bringing back real music and emotions to the song contest.
Imagine a stage performance where you see the singer all the time alone in a spotlight where he sings the slow parts and on the end the light turns up and you see a whole gospel core singing with him. This can be epic!
I don't know if you will ever see this Jeangu, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song. This really helped me through a low point I had mentally during the first lockdown. I love your lyrics and love your voice. Thank you so much.
i'm not gonna lie, at first i didnt care about this song at all. it was really middle of the road for me, until one day the lyric ''the more i learn, the less i know'' got stuck in my head while i was having an awful day... so i took a thorough listen and it's grown massively on me ever since. i began connecting to this song, understanding it in a fully emotional level. thanks for this entry 🇳🇱, it's now in my top 5; along with Switzerland (my personal winner), Malta, Latvia and Australia. best of luck from Spain 💛
This song is far out the best song with the best lyrics according to me. When Jeangu Macrooy starts singing, he sounds like an angel in diguise. I get a so emotional when I listen to it. It doesn't matter if he wins or not, this song is so amazing it gave me goosebumps and sends chills down my spine.

They should have allowed the same contestants and their songs from last year to participate in this year's competition. I keep coming back to listen the songs that didn't had the opportunity to shine.
If I remember correctly it was mentioned somewhere that this year they will do something to honor the songs of 2020 that were supposed to be used for the cancelled contest, but I can't remember where I heard or read this anymore. In any case, this is the first time a Eurovision contest was cancelled of course, and I actually think it's really interesting that the majority of the 2020 artists will participate this year again with a new song.
Okayyy. Just when I was thinking about this year to be weak, this comes out? Never been a fan of Dutch songs on ESC and here we are. Two years in a row, two of my personal winners for sure. Best of luck from Poland, you have my vote!😍😍😍
Is it bad to want the same country to win twice in a row? Love this even more than last year's Dutch entry. I'm a Brit so we don't have a chance of winning anyways 😂 The ending minute or so gives me goosebumps every time
It isn't unique, it happened before. Well may the best song and performance win. I don't understand why the UK, of all places, can't deliver the right song. All the talent in the world! This year isn't really bad, but it's not huge either unfortunately. I would love to see eurovision back in the UK.
When all the other participants go for lotsa instrumentals and showy videos, The Netherlands go for quality and subtleness everytime. Nice. Maybe two wins in a row? High expectations. Really good song.
Netherlands you are not playing! This song is deep, so relatable to many people, it touches me like no other ... a true quality product. I am supporting Victoria, but still well done to you!
Really beautiful and meaningful. You can understand the lyrics if you struggle with depression. Thank you Netherlands for this jewel . Greetings from Italy! 😢😍🙋💪👍👊👏✌❤💙🔝🎼🎶🎵🎤🎻🎹
When the video unveiled he was talking in a therapy group I felt the message even more. This is a great song, not your typical low tempo Eurovision song, but another proof of why The Netherlands is getting such good results in recent years. Good job, I can't wait to watch this live with the crowd cheering.
Thank you! Maybe you want to see the live performance you can type dwdd jeangu on youtube because then you will end up at his live performance, I think it is even better live!
The Netherlands has two years in a row: a beautiful, emotional, touching & powerful song! 😌❤️ Honestly I cried when I first heard Grow. All the emotions of my past memories just came out with tears. And I just couldn't stop crying... 😌 Now I'm listening to this song, for who knows, how umpteenth time this is, with a huge smile on my face! ☺️ Dutch people: You have such a lovely song! Be proud of this! 💕 I wish all the best for The Netherlands again this year! Much love from 🇫🇮 to 🇳🇱! ❤️ EDIT: OMG! 🥰 Just heard the live version of Grow & it's pure gold, too! A tip for you; listen to the song with headphones! 😤💕 EDIT 2: Well, due to overwhelming ESC cancellation - I didn't have chance to vote for The Netherlands this year, but Grow & Jeangu has special place in my heart. I will remember this entry! One of my like extremely, absolute favorites alongside with 🇨🇭🇮🇹 this year! 💕 Times are dark, but stay strong people! 💪✨
This song makes me want to cry ??? The emotions are so raw and it translates so well what a lot of us are feeling growing up and becoming adult. I'm speechless, the Netherlands doesn't know how to send a bad song it's crazy
I wasn't impressed with the first minute or so, but by the end I was loving it. The song grows and grows and bits of it are genuinely odd and 'not Eurovision' which helps to make it better. I love the Dutch for taking the contest seriously over the past few years, and I think it's a path the UK has followed with our entry this year. Dank u wel for another great entry!
It's a very personal and sensitive song, it touched me when i heard it, you either feel it, or you don't.. We can be proud tho...cause it is pure quality again ⚘🇳🇱
3 Years ago when i was 12 (i'm 15 now) the song came out, and it still hits the same. Each day i'm getting closer to being an adult, and this song makes me want to stay young. But that's just how life is you know...
Sometimes a song is almost too good for Eurovision… I love this… Very deep and it connects with the 'open up'-theme so well! I really want to see more of these personal songs instead of the 'regular love & peace-songs'.(and ofcourse there a lot of nice songs with that subject) I hope that this will be the new Eurovision-direction for next years. You go Jeangu!
"it's almost impossible to win two times in a row, and ofcourse i want to win, but it's just really really hard. I just hope i can give people something they can relate to, a song that comforts them. That would be a victory to me."
I'm hoping this song doesn't get cursed because of being the host's song. This is amazing! One of my favourites this year 12 points to The Netherlands 🇳🇱 Love from Portugal ❤🇵🇹
Profound song. The last minute has me in tears every time I listen to it. My personal favorite for Eurovision 2020. Thank you Jeangu for this wonderful entry!😚
It looks like a monotonous report from me. Because at this place last year I was already enthusiastic about Duncan Laurence and praised him to heaven. This year it is Jeangu Macrooy's turn and again it is Bingo. What a beautiful combination of gospel and ... I don't know so quickly. The song takes you completely in a kind of trance for three minutes. Jeangu's voice is warm, lyrics are recognizable, the background choir that comes in is exactly in place and the composition is magical. Need I say more?
I was 13 years old when I first heard this song. And I immediately realized that this was the embodiment of something beautiful and calm. It’s a shame that Eurovision 2020 was cancelled, it would have been the best competition in recent years.
This song could be the song of the night. It's very touching because it's so honest, so naive, so simple and just so cute. I honestly shed a tear. He needs to be lucky in the allocation draw and get a position at the end of the second half. And he needs that Salvador Sobral staging. Just give him a mike and that sort of a tiny stage which enables him to create intimacy with the audience, and he'll make it to the top spot!
I just heard the song at "de wereld draait door" (this is a Dutch talk show) and I got a lot goosebumps. This song is really different of the other songs, but I love it. This is a masterpiece
I think this song will grow when you hear it more often. The text is personal but it is so true for every person in his or her personal life. The building up musically is fitting with the text. I heard some other ESC songs. But this one is not comparable with the others. And yes, I am Dutch, but independent.
@Robbie Nl Goedemorgen.

In my opinion this is that kind of song you need to listen 2 or 3 times cause you don't know what to think about it but after a few times you are absolutely in love with it! Well done Netherlands!😁🤩
A powerful message with a wonderful voice! This is a masterpiece...so charming, so emotional, so strong and vulnerable at the same time! By far my favorite song this year and probably one of my favorite songs ever! Lots of love from Portugal ❤
This moved me to tears My cousin and I are huge fans of Eurovision and always watch it together. Last year she couldn't come to my place because she wasn't feeling well - it turned out she has leukemia. Until a few weeks ago she was doing really well but then she got infected with corona in the hospital and now she's in an artificial coma and all we can do is hope... I'm so scared and I miss her a lot, especially tonight!
OMG I 'm not sure why but this suddenly got me in tears and then i just couldn't stop. People complain about too many ballads. Whoever just counts this as yet an other ballad is nowhere close to understand it. This is not a ballad. It's barely even a song. This is a whisper. A screaming whisper. It is almost ignoring any established structure, any effort to amuse or impress, it seeks no authority , no prestige, it cares about no competition. It just rises from the most unexpected depths of a soul, unfolds a velvet pair of wings, flies to the skies, whispers straight into the ears of the gods and smoothly comes back to caress the bleeding chin of a lost innocence, feeding it back to itself so it can grow. And it grows. God, it grows. I think I 'm in love. I definitely found my winner.
I think this will end high with The jury’s, but i’m afraid how the televoters think about The song. I really like “grow” it’s written straight from his heart, he is a good singer songwriter! 👌🏼
@@Firefly9433 I don't think you're right here, do you remember Sweden 2018? Imo Germany 2020 is almost the same as Sweden 2018 and do you remember how that went with the televoting? That was horrible, 21 points. And I think it will happen with this song too
It is really a powerful song! But you have to listen to it more often at the beginning I thought it was boring but now I really like it! He also has such a beautiful voice you can just hear that it came straight from his heart. The first time I got goosebumps because of his voice so beautiful! So I give you all a tip and listen to this song more often because it will naturally become fun! I hope that the Netherlands does well on stage because if they do they can certainly get very high! And it is a very quiet song and I think that is beautiful because usually there is the ESC quite fast songs but the Netherlands does a quiet song almost every year! Put it on Jeangu !! greetings from poland! I give you 12 points
Het maakt mij echt niet uit hoe hoog dit nummer eindigt in de rankings: het is gewoon een RETE goed nummer, echt een kunstwerk. Thanks Jeangu for amazing, real and soulful songwriting
I can feel this song. Life is not what we hope it would be as children, we get dissappointed, sad, melancholy and yet we hope, adjust, dream and try to move along.
So much better than the shtty song of Iceland, I don't understand the hype behind it, it sounds like a amateur college band dong a concert for a school party. There's so much qualty in the NL song, too bad that this song will be underrated liike Israel last year.
My winner. This song touches your soul and heart in 3 minutes of amazing jurney. Absolutely masterpiece. It sounds like a soundtrack from a movie that won a Oscar so this song should win an Oscar. 12 points from Poland.
Thank you for your support Em Mlov. The First place is for Croatia this year. Divlji Vjetre from Damir Kedzo is the best entry! The Netherlands ❤ Croatia
I remember my boyfriend and I were watching the entries together in 2020, just like we did in 2018 and 2019. I told him then how much I loved this one and then recited the lyrics to him, they resonated with us. Now 3 years later I'm listening to it, alone, in the dark. I was "unreasonable" for too long and far too much. Ruined things and lost him. But I don't have any hopes or dreams, only memories that make me come back to songs like this one, that are parts of those memories, and hurt more from how much more meaningful they are now
Duncan Laurence spoke about Jeangu Macrooy's "Grow" song. "I see it being really suppressed at the right moments, and it stays true to its own story, it really tells a story. I hope to see it here with an award in the next year."
A strong one. I like it more and more. I start to personally think that this is the best entry. The message is deeply relatable. Yay, I have something to root for this year.
Jeangu was one of my favourite artists way before he was chosen to represent the Netherlands in Eurovision, he still is, but I'm really excited for his song
I think we should all stop the negativity. This is such a good entry. I feel that there's going to be a big moment on stage with this one. Well done 🇳🇱 you never disappoint.
@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536 ooh thank you. We portuguese people never ever expected to win an Eurovision show. We believe we were blessed that year. Pope Francisco was in Portugal the day we won.
here after 'birth of a new age' is released. gotta say - i love both songs. but i love them differently. grow is a song i genuinely still listen to every once in a while. i emotionally connect with it. "too good" for eurovision. birth of a new age is a song i VIBE with. maybe in that regard it's more eurovision: celebrating. being proud. both are good.
I don't even watch Eurovision but I ran into this and it is one of the most beautiful songs that I've heard in my life!!! amazing!! and what a voice!! I want to hear more from this man!! ❤❤❤

I agree. Lithuania is an awesome song
Well, don't throw Iceland away. Thhink about things is also people's favourite... :)
This is not a song that Eurovision deserves but a song that Eurovision needs.
Jeangu Macrooy is a Surinamer that used Sranantongo (Surinamese) in his Eurovision song that represented the Netherlands.
This song is far out the best song with the best lyrics according to me.
When Jeangu Macrooy starts singing, he sounds like an angel in diguise.
I get a so emotional when I listen to it. It doesn't matter if he wins or not,

Lots of love from Portugal ❤
This moved me to tears
My cousin and I are huge fans of Eurovision and always watch it together. Last year she couldn't come to my place because she wasn't feeling well - it turned out she has leukemia.
Until a few weeks ago she was doing really well but then she got infected with corona in the hospital and now she's in an artificial coma and all we can do is hope...
I'm so scared and I miss her a lot, especially tonight!
have you gotten an update? hopefully she is okay.
@@bean9881 she passed away a week ago. She was only 21
MsBlulucky sorry to hear.
MsBlulucky that’s heartbreaking, so sorry to hear 😢 sending you and your family love
@@MsBlulucky 😢
Wow that was brilliant.. Like poetry thank you ❤️
Wow... just wow!!! ❤️
You are a poet!
I think this will end high with The jury’s, but i’m afraid how the televoters think about The song.
I really like “grow” it’s written straight from his heart, he is a good singer songwriter! 👌🏼
ok
xNesrin25 i Think thats true but for Germany its ok for Jury and High with Televoting
Booo.. bad pun
@@lemmymaster this is such a bad song
@@Firefly9433 I don't think you're right here, do you remember Sweden 2018? Imo Germany 2020 is almost the same as Sweden 2018 and do you remember how that went with the televoting? That was horrible, 21 points. And I think it will happen with this song too
This song goes straight through your heart! Jeangu you deserve a high position in the Final. Well done 👍👍👍
This is a winner. From the very first pause you can feel it. If it wasn't canceled and The Netherlands wasn't the host country.
12 points from Germany. So beautiful
His voice is pure soul. Wow. Love to listen it🧡
It is really a powerful song!
Wonderful song...for me your are the winner.
Good luck for Holland.
From France
Too bad 😷😑
Thank you sm! We wish you guys all the luck too
this came in the news yesterday in the morning! SUPPORT FROM SURINAME JEANGU 🇸🇷💕🇸🇷
ESC Marlin ❤️
The warmth of his voice... he sucks me into the song.. mesmerising!
This is such an anthem for those who already stepped on adulthood and its hardships.
FACTS! ❤️
The accuracyyyyyyyyy
That hurts Cuz its true

Beautifully fragile. The 'ending' is deep. The finding of peace of mind. Also symbolic for infinite growth potential? Love to you all.
Het maakt mij echt niet uit hoe hoog dit nummer eindigt in de rankings: het is gewoon een RETE goed nummer, echt een kunstwerk. Thanks Jeangu for amazing, real and soulful songwriting

Goosebumps what a song. The Netherlands did it again💓👏
This is amazing, my new #1 - good luck from England 🏴 🇳🇱

Luv this its so mellow & cool, on repeat! 12points to the Netherlands with luv from Armeniaaa :)
I can feel this song. Life is not what we hope it would be as children, we get dissappointed, sad, melancholy and yet we hope, adjust, dream and try to move along.
Beautiful comment!
I love this country 🇳🇱 Greetings from Georgia! 🇬🇪
Thank you😀Georgia is one of my big favorites❤
♥️♥️
Good luck, Georgia!! ❤ I love 'Take me as I am'

Den Den да ладно тебе, люди то хорошие, главное, чтоб не писали в вино
I get that people want up tempo songs and all that but you can hear that this is quality
Sara yes, I prefer a up tempo song but this is still a good song
So much better than the shtty song of Iceland, I don't understand the hype behind it, it sounds like a amateur college band dong a concert for a school party. There's so much qualty in the NL song, too bad that this song will be underrated liike Israel last year.
Love agreed!
@P. Marley ok zoomer.
Agreed✌🏻
My winner. This song touches your soul and heart in 3 minutes of amazing jurney. Absolutely masterpiece. It sounds like a soundtrack from a movie that won a Oscar so this song should win an Oscar. 12 points from Poland.
This is not typical Eurovision song and that's why I like it, it is song for the World. 🌎 Greetings from Croatia 🇭🇷
Em Mlov 🙏🏾

Thank you for your support Em Mlov. The First place is for Croatia this year. Divlji Vjetre from Damir Kedzo is the best entry! The Netherlands ❤ Croatia
@@gdemooij738 💜
Dear Netherlandas, you did it again!
Wow, never thought someone would succeed in blending Synthwave and Gospel! This is brilliant!
Zo ontzettend zonde dat lied het niet meer is geworden....hij had hier zeker veel hoger mee geëindigd!
Very open minded and smooth song literally. Best of luck Netherlands for the hosting!❤️🤍💙
Hopefully virus free:)

@Tocwa You To With You’re land
Its the first time after years that I hear a song stimulating so dynamic emotions. I hope it wins.
I think we should all stop the negativity. This is such a good entry. I feel that there's going to be a big moment on stage with this one. Well done 🇳🇱 you never disappoint.
So not liking a songs means being negative? Its a boring entry....
yeapoi Its boring im literally almost falling asleep.
I really like it, that's a quality song.
yeapoi I think you could be right. I didnt like Israel’s ‘Home’ last year but Kobi truely provided a ‘moment’ on stage at the final 😀👍
sorry but its just not my cup of tea. thats opinion, not negativity
In its simplicity,it manages to sell a lot. Once again The Netherlands send an amazing entry! Good luck Jeangu!
Am I the only one who actually thinks that this year Eurovision has the most beautiful songs and performances ever? Love from Portugal
I agree
No I completely agree! There's some beautiful slower songs this year and I am LIVING FOR IT.
Remember Salvador played a huge part in this quality uprising. We have to thank him for that 👌❤️
This is the strongest year, I remember. And I watch it since 2009
@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536 ooh thank you. We portuguese people never ever expected to win an Eurovision show. We believe we were blessed that year. Pope Francisco was in Portugal the day we won.
I like it!
Not very typical Eurovision but i like it😍
Love from Israel🇮🇱
Israel’s song is so much good and your girl smiles just like a sun 😍😍 with love from Russia 🇷🇺 ❤️🇮🇱

I can already see the whole audience in the stadium with lights in their hands! Just amazing feeling❤️
here after 'birth of a new age' is released.
gotta say - i love both songs. but i love them differently.
grow is a song i genuinely still listen to every once in a while. i emotionally connect with it. "too good" for eurovision.
birth of a new age is a song i VIBE with.
maybe in that regard it's more eurovision: celebrating. being proud.
both are good.
I love how vulnerable he is in this song and if the staging is good the Netherlands will definitely be on the left side of the score board again😍😍❤️
Ok
