My grandfather was a pilot in the RAF flying a spitfire during the war. He was in a dogfight in which his plane caught fire but tho v v badly burned over 60 percent of his body he made it home. Thank you granddad .
One of Great Granddads was dad's army as he was a volunteer firefighter and worked a farm the other was storming Normandy the 2 men a looked up to the most after my dad
My great grandfather was RAF too, he was originally an Essex boy and when war was declared he packed up his whole family, including my grandmother who had just been born, and was stationed down south on the beaches to watch out for enemy planes. My other great grandfather was deployed oversee in the middle East and African countries, thankfully both survived the war but I was too unfortunate to meet them before I was born.
theres a lot of negativity from some commentators here about britains demise dont worry we have been around for quite a while now and i think we will be around for quite some time to come keep calm and drink more tea!
My mother spent the war polishing periscope lenses for our submarines. My dad spent 6 years in the Royal Navy escorting merchant ships with war material to Murmansk otherwise the Germans would have reached Vladivostok before the USA entered the war! He was later sunk in the Indian Ocean by the Japanese. Don’t worry, he survived or I wouldn’t have served 12 years in the Paras!😅😂 All that. Is history. People need to be aware of what’s coming. We need to have tremendous courage if we are to keep our Island intact!
My mother worked in a munitions factory, my father was a coal miner so wasnt called up, coal was essential. He managed a team of young lads "Bevan Boys". They were recruited to increase coal production for the war effort. My dad (born 1913), left school at age 13 on a Friday, and went "down the pit" the next day. How life has changed since then.
My dad was born 18.11.40 just outside Glasgow, which was boomed due to the clyde building ports and factories, smack bang in the middle of the blitz. It's a sobering thought to think I may not even be here nor my kid. We owe so much to the people back then from the common man to the army brass , we owe them more than we remember to show ❤
I’m from just along the Clyde from Glasgow and my Granda who was from even further along in Ayr was in reconnaissance in the army during WWII. They weren’t sent over on D-Day itself but were sent across The Channel a couple of weeks later but due to poor weather they had to weigh anchor for a day or two before it was decided to aim for a different landing spot. When the engines were started, they triggered an acoustic mine that had been dropped by the German planes that had been attacking them while they waited for the weather to improve. It ripped the ship that they were on in half (it was called The Derrycunihy and it resulted in the largest single loss of life at sea during the Normandy Landings) My Granda and his men were in a hold in the half that sank (the other half managed to stay afloat) and luckily for him a hatch was blown off and he was able to swim through it. He was then sent home to recuperate due to a perforated ear drum and literally just over nine months later my Dad and his twin brother were born. It’s a strange feeling to be grateful for something so horrific (I read an account by an officer of the incident and they spoke about the water being on fire due to the oil spilt from the tanks and the ship and my Granda was only in that hold because someone had asked to swap, there had been no survivors from the hold my Granda was allocated) for the existence of three generations of your family…as it stands just now.
My Mum was born 1938 in Edinburgh, they were bombed too. My Papa fought and was injured was in the war. The stories my Mum told me are heartbreaking. Some people today really don’t know how good we have it and that is so sad.
The men are on the battlefield every one had to do their part even the kids picking food on the farms have a look at 13 hours to save Britain that one of our proudest moments in our history
and yhoung children were organised to pick rose hips and the WI made vast amounts of Rose hip syrup from them.. as its a good source of Vit C in the absence of citrus fruits getting through the Britain. Everyone pulled together. the usal few of the self serving from what I gather. Britain was ingenious in how it approached everything.. evenon the home front.. from educating housewives on how to cook food with the shortages, fuel shortages and make do and mend. They were all in it together. Iheard about it all from my dear Mother.
Every British school should show this. How the mighty have fallen in just one lifetime, a proud country reduced to self loathing and guilt. The lion being dragged down by packs of cackling hyenas.
Aye, that is exactly what has happened. A stealthy, debilitating, indoctrination of the children has accomplished what could not be done by the might of the Axis.
United, we succeeded. People today might be shocked to learn that their great-great-grandfathers willingly volunteered to fight for the Empire. Indeed, 1.2 million Indians volunteered. The UK declared war on Germany independently; the Empire was neither required nor coerced into joining the fight. Each nation within the Empire declared war against Germany of their own accord.
Sadly, in the present day, people are being taught an ideology, not the real truth, many people just follow blindly and never question anything, ask people what they think of the WEF (world economic forum) and you get a blank response as these are the people behind all the division in society as we are easier to control if they keep us divided.
You’re not as smart as you think you are. You hadn’t heard of the WEF until it hit one of the insane Facebook pages you follow. You say all this but will never realise it’s capitalism that’s the problem, the WEF is a function of capitalism. The left has been saying this shit for 150 years
I know it's not a direct comparison, but @ 16:06 "It was the British that made the Germans realise war could be brought to their soil too".... Ukraine hitting Russia in the nuts this week really springs to mind.....
I was born shortly after the war. I joined the army in 1967 and served 12 years in the cavalry, (tanks). I am ashamed of the politicians we now have as they throw away what we have given for their freedom. Now we are arrested for being honest, a concept alien to politicians.
It's a shame really due to how our government and modern people are they see this as shameful and would rather suppress it and make stuff like this look horrible. Same as our British culture is being suppressed.

Join the Patriots march on 27 July = this march is to demonstrate that we want our country back. Yes, Tommy Robinson is running it along with others but before anyone attacks TR please listen to his story. I, like many people, jumped on the bandwagon and believed what the mainstream media were saying about him, it was a lie. I listened to his story and I have changed my opinion of him - he is not the person the MSM have portrayed him as = all he is fighting for is for the truth to be told about what our government are not telling us, what the police are lacking in etc etc etc. TR has gone through a lot and called many things but just listen to his story here on utube and you too will change your mind.
Thank you so much for showing and reacting to this film. The greatest generation; that's what they were called. My Father drove a tank in France, the low lands and Germany. Twice wounded in action. He was at the battle of the Bulge, the liberation of Paris, amongst others. He joined the army at 18 years old in 1938, and by God's Grace managed to live through the whole of the horrors. He rarely spoke about the war. Maybe that's just the British way, or maybe the horror was too much to talk about. But he did say that when he went home to his little town in Scotland after the war, all his old school friends had been killed, so he left the country and travelled to the far East. We must never forget what he and his generation sacrificed for the freedom of all people. May he and all his generation now rest in peace.
From Sept 1939 through to 7 Dec 1941 America did not want to be seen as supporting Britain. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbour Britain declared war on Japan the very next day.
@@daddy9267 disingenuous, Churchill was already making preparations for the declaration of war BEFORE the attacks on the british colonies. It was already happening without Singapore and Malaya, that just expidited the process. So if you are going to correct somone, at least spend the time to know the whole story.
I could tell you all that Britain and its people have achieved, that what brought to the world through invention and co-operation, brag about our victories and achievements, but I will not. Though of late Britain has lost some of its luster, our achievements stand for the world, not for us alone.
My nan was in london through it all, my dad was evacuated up north whilst my grandad fought in the navy. Londoners of that era were stoic survivors. My great grandmother on my nans side was in a shelter that got hit by a V2 doodlebug, I've never even seen a photo of her. RIP Lizzy, RIP Nan....together again, rest well.

🇿🇦 My grandfather fought in North Africa My grandmother was a major My father was put in an orphanage with his siblings, because his mother had to work and his father was dead. My grandfather used a pen knife to carve all the places he fought, on his wallet. I still have that, his medals. After the war ended my father was conscripted to military service, both my brothers were conscripted In my family, my son is the first not to have been in the military For that I thank all the generations before him. Love your channel 🌸
My great grandfather was a Chelsea pensioner, he fought in the Boar war, the First World War, he was a fire marshal in the Second World War as he was too old to fight My grandfather fought in Africa in the Second World War he was a “dessert rat” he said goodbye to go to war when my mam was three and she did not see him until she was eleven. My mother remembered being in the shelter when bombs were raining down on the outside, she said it was terrifying, she remembered whole families being killed in the bombings. She was evacuated to the country as a child and had mixed experiences. I am so very proud of all my ancestors and of all the generation that lived through these wars . They were certainly a tough and resilient generation
we had one thing the germans didnt have..............Radar. My mother was a docker during the war, loading and unloading ships from Ireland. That was her war effort. God Bless her Soul.
I think the film called something like 'Castles in the Air' is excellent in telling the story of Radar. However, I have heard the Germans had Radar as well except theirs wasn't set up for Defence as was the UK. For some reason the Germans didn't figure out ours despite their spying efforts.
They had radar alright - very good radar actually. What they didn't have initially was an integrated system to use the data supplied by it, at least in the air defence role. However the Kammhuber line soon rectified that shortcoming.
My family comes from the south coast of England which was the front line for 4 years in WW2. My parents, who were teenagers at the time, both had narrow escapes. My Mum was taking newspapers to the girls manning the anti aircraft guns on the seafront when she saw a plane flying along the coast towards her, dropping little lights. As it got closer, she realised it was tracer shells from machineguns so she dived behind a low wall while the shells hit all around her. She lay there crying until her dad came running to find her. My Dad was sitting on a wooden park bench with his younger brother, watching planes fighting way up in the sky. Suddenly the bench shook as a disc of hot metal, about a foot in diameter, hit the bench between them and set it alight. Neither was injured. My beloved mother in law was a few years older and her job was to make repairs to uniforms. The material was supposed to have been cleaned before coming to them, but it never was, so all the woman caught skin diseases, lice and fleas. On one occasion she found two fingers in a jacket pocket. This was every day life for ordinary British people in WW2, there was nowhere safe and no break from the pressures.
Britain 🇬🇧 and Ukraine 🇺🇦 are very similar. Fighting alone against fascists. All my love to you in Ukraine 🇺🇦 from your brothers and sisters in Britain 🇬🇧
@@Iamgone1961 Because in 1938 everyone was saying the same as hitler began invading Czechoslovakia for 'living space', hitler promised to stop there, then carried on assuming the appeasement meant the rest of Europe was weak, and would not fight him. We finally finished paying the USA for our armaments for WW2 in 2006, so when we hear the comment, "We saved your ass" you have no idea how angry we feel. America was the only country which ended the war far richer than when they started. We had rationing until 1954 - 14 years.
Everyone should have the right for peace in their own country if they helped each other instead of attacking each other the world would be a better place

I've recently discovered that my Maternal Great Grandfather died, during the first bombing of the City of Aberdeen, the Second World War. There is a book kept in Westminster Abbey with the names of all Civilians that died as a result of the bombings.
So true as i am unfortunately too old for the draft that is coming, but i will stand and fight should I need too just like my grandfathers and great grandfathers before me.
Good to hear, I was born in London 1950, my family migrated to Australia 1957, my mother endured the blitz, my father a tailgunner RAF 3 years Nth Africa, I was coscripted into Australian Army 1971, I'm glad to see the lion's teeth are coming out to defend the homeland. In Australia the population is slowly waking up but it is not as bad here yet as it is there, too laid back, but when it hits them in their pockets, homes, families, as it has there I know the people will rise. It wasn't only London that was bombed in Britain - most main cities got bombed. My hometown of Southampton, only one shop stood standing in it's main shopping street after bombing
Amazing how, despite the message of comradeship in this film, the US Army treated many of its own soldiers so badly especially black regiments. When such soldiers were stationed in Britain and N.Ireland their commanders tried to enforce racial segregation but the locals wouldn’t have it. Check out “The Battle of Bamber Bridge” to get an idea of how that worked out. As a side note, my dad was very proud of having met the great boxer Joe Louis - the “Brown Bomber” - when he was stationed near Belfast.
We were not one of the United States' allies. After being ALONE for a year, until the Soviet Union became a 'co-belligerent' against the Nazis and we fought on for another year then Japan kicked America's ass and the US became one of OUR allies. Don't make that mistake again.
As a Brit my Grandparents where all Army and navy in both wars and when you say why so much effort '' to fighting Nazi Germany. It would be good for you to look up concentration camps every Britt knew that if we didn't Win the Second World War with help from our Allies then we would all every single one of us Man Woman and child without a doubt be exterminated jn Nazi concentration camps and that would have been the end of all British people for ever full stop . The North Africa conflict was to protect the Suez Canal and to allow the Americans to land and open up the second front, it was also to protect the British oilfields in the Middle East and to prevent the Germans from having land bases close to Malta and Gibraltar.

Not sure Germany had 'voting' as we might understand it. I had a German lady on my team and she told me how bad it was for her 'ordinary' family. They used to listen to BBC when in their basement. As children were expected to go to see a Overseer every Sunday, the family were petrified the children would let their secret slip. On one occasion, as a child, she was asked by the 'friendly' overseer 'And how do you like your Uncle Adolf?' She innocently replied 'I don't have an Uncle Adolf'. This lady never told me how they managed to avoid a problem from that. She also told me that when the Concentration camps were being emptied, the prisoners were frog-marched to the river where they were put on rafts in the river then shot. At that time a prisoner stopped at her family house and asked for water. He was immediately caught by his German captor and beaten across the head while telling the mother who'd also come to the door said something like 'and you'll be next if you don't get back indoors!' If you can find on RUclips one of the very interesting videos showing German Prisoners of War held in Britain and how they were treated and how much they learned about voting.
one of the good things is when we were fighting the Nazis we did have the empire so we were not entirely alone. we also had people from other European country's who had been invaded and who still wanted to keep fighting

Here in jolly old, freedom of speech is gone, cricket is boring as f*ck thank god we have football, our right to bare arms is gone, our common laws are gone, our rights are constantly being taken away, makes me think what the f*ck my grandfather's and all my countrymen fought and died for, let's face it most think we are racist or hate us even though we abolished slavery and give the rest of the world technology and freedom, it's always nice to see someone showing some appreciation to what Britain has done.
What on earth are you talking about?! Load of rubbish! Your freedom to be racist and cruel is gone sure, that's a good thing. They won a war - but the UK in 1940 was not a kind or easy place to live or love if you were born poor or gay or black. The UK today is wealthier, happier, and more free than it was then. Why can't you understand that getting to the stage where you need to fight a huge world war is actually a reflection of the disgusting failure of politics in the 1920s and 1930s to stop the war from happening - it was all far too late to start trying in 1938. Politicians who presided over allowing ww1 and WW2 to happen have enormous amounts of blood on their hands. Yes, Hitler was evil, and needed to be destroyed, and it's good he was, but the UK had the biggest empire in the world between 1800 and 1948 - these horrible wars happened on the UKs watch, and when they had the power to stop them!
People slam britain for its history. Yet it was them that stepped up to Ru as thwy entered Ukraine. Forst to send missiles, first to semd tanks. Why do you think a country the size of Ru is cautious about Britain and does not follow through with any threats made to them.
My mum used to have a friend whose mother was german and alive during WW2. This old woman loved the Nazis for one simple reason. she got free coal every week.
As did Russia too. So if the reason for war was due to the invasion of Poland then why didn't we declare war on Russia too ?? The real reason for WW2 was because of the harsh conditions imposed on Germany after WW1. Poland was given parts of Germany which then the Germans took back, so not really an invasion. However don't get me wrong I am not defending Germany but the War was due to Germany being on her knees due to the sanctions imposed on them after WW2. The invasion of Poland is just a smoke screen
grow up mate, stop reading posts by racists on twitter. Brtiain is doing just fine, there is only 600 deaths due to homicide per year in the uk, this is less than the city of chicago alone in the usa which has 800 muders per year. In the usa total there are over 25,000 murders per year.

Don’t worry, he survived or I wouldn’t have served 12 years in the Paras!😅😂
All that. Is history. People need to be aware of what’s coming. We need to have tremendous courage if we are to keep our Island intact!
I totally agree with you. We are under threat.. most definitely.. in a BIG WAY from foreign rouge states.. one or two in particular.
Better to fight than to let your country live under tyranny. something we will have to visit again...Every generation must fight for freedom.
The baby boomer generation never really had to fight for anything, not like the greatest generation did
New law means we can't even speak truth on social media, if we even see a riot we can be arrested, were nor allowed to swear in the street wtf 😤
Ever hear of Ireland?
We Irish fought for 800 years.
It ripped the ship that they were on in half (it was called The Derrycunihy and it resulted in the largest single loss of life at sea during the Normandy Landings)
My Granda and his men were in a hold in the half that sank (the other half managed to stay afloat) and luckily for him a hatch was blown off and he was able to swim through it.

It should also be remembered that Britain had not fully recovered from the first world war either.

"No part of Britain is more than 100 miles from the sea"
Actually, no part of Britain is even *70* miles from the sea.

My grandmother was a major
My father was put in an orphanage with his siblings, because his mother had to work and his father was dead.
My grandfather used a pen knife to carve all the places he fought, on his wallet. I still have that, his medals.
After the war ended my father was conscripted to military service, both my brothers were conscripted
In my family, my son is the first not to have been in the military
For that I thank all the generations before him.

My great grandfather was a Chelsea pensioner, he fought in the Boar war, the First World War, he was a fire marshal in the Second World War as he was too old to fight
My grandfather fought in Africa in the Second World War he was a “dessert rat” he said goodbye to go to war when my mam was three and she did not see him until she was eleven.
That and tea 😊
Germans apparently did have radar and it was far superior to ours. Problem was they didn't know how to use it effectively.

He was immediately caught by his German captor and beaten across the head while telling the mother who'd also come to the door said something like 'and you'll be next if you don't get back indoors!'
If you can find on RUclips one of the very interesting videos showing German Prisoners of War held in Britain and how they were treated and how much they learned about voting.

It won't, check Russia's history of battle, it couldn't even defeat Finland
Generally we dont fuss life is too short
one of the good things is when we were fighting the Nazis we did have the empire so we were not entirely alone. we also had people from other European country's who had been invaded and who still wanted to keep fighting
You really should look at a video about Malta 🇲🇹 an how that tiny country wax the most bombed country in the war, it couldn't of happened without these brave people they very nearly starved during the 2nd WW. the Germans neatly wipped out the tiny country an all they got for it was a bloody cross on their flag these poor people suffered more than any. ❤❤❤
Britain was not alone members of the commonwealth fought with us. They were not invading Africa they were fighting the Germans who had invaded those countries to free them
It only takes 1 madman..
Bless you 🙏 ♥️ 🙌 new subscriber from the UK I've never felt proud to be British we were brought up being told we were bad racist controlling so I felt white guilt,
My grandad fought in ww1 and 2 he lied about his age to get in so think was 15
Then in second ww he was captured in Germany, he escaped and made it all the way back
Actually, mind-blowing if you think about it, I wish I asked more ,
I no he slept on a wooden board as he was so used to sleeping on the floor, he was also a boxer ,
Thank you for sharing and helping us all learn and hopefully come together with love x
Good one.
It was also known that US soldiers tried to force men from the Gurkhas to leave bars they were in or to act as servants
loved your breakdown of wwll
My mum used to have a friend whose mother was german and alive during WW2. This old woman loved the Nazis for one simple reason. she got free coal every week.
when you poke the lion you get the very definition of "fukk around and find out"
👍👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
So why did the US wait till Pearl Harbor to join the conflict! " Just Saying? "
Brition is still great , all it requires is a strong government of realmem and women again. 👏
This is true
You should watch the TV series the world at war.
The whole reason why we declared war on Germany in the first place was because they invaded Poland.
Come here now. 2024 My local senior school in Basildon Essex has probably 60% Nigerian student's.
And now look at this little island.. so many towns and cities unrecognizable, my culture is being replaced
That’s humanity for you, progress whether good or bad is inevitable.
grow up mate, stop reading posts by racists on twitter. Brtiain is doing just fine, there is only 600 deaths due to homicide per year in the uk, this is less than the city of chicago alone in the usa which has 800 muders per year. In the usa total there are over 25,000 murders per year.
@mrjsgart is that your white only culture as promoted by Britain First
@@Westcountrynordic Dont be stupid. I've lived in other countries and I respect their culture!! I would never do what the immigrants do here
Stop talking shite.
