pressing flowers + my herbarium journal (mindfulness practice) ♡

- I've been trying to practice more mindfulness lately and I have found flower pressing to be a great way to bring ease into my life and focus on what's around me. Plus, dried flowers are incredibly aesthetic and cottagecore which always makes me extra happy. I feel like Emily Dickinson.
I've always had an interest in botany / herbology (I am a hufflepuff after all!!). I am in no way an expert (though I am a biologist, I did not graduate in botany), so these are just my own techniques and tips I've learned.
I hope you enjoy the video and please consider subscribing! It really means a lot to me and is so helpful!

For for an identification app, I highly recommend iNaturalist! There are AI suggestions, but all of the IDs come from real people
Yes!! It's a great one!
quick question!! do you need a herbarium journal?? and as well what is the difference between it and more regular journals.
Oh! Great question:
Absolutely no need for a specific ‘herbarium’ journal. Putting dried flowers IN a journal (any journal) and writing about them is what makes it a herbarium journal! There are some journals on the market that are more specific to this, eg. Has a space to write species, may have a sheet of tissue-like paper in between pages to protect plants, but they aren’t needed!!
The journal I used is 100% a normal journal :) just has a cute plant picture on the front!
Amazing video 🌸
Aww I appreciate you
Beautiful videos. Very well done.
Thank you very much! ♥
I love your videos so much!
SxnnyCloud thank you so much 🥺🤍
Your voice is really soothing!
Also, I tend to use this one app called PlantNet. It's really helpful when it comes to recognizing flowers, so far it's helped me a lot :)
So helpful!! Thank you! and youre so kind ✨
i love your videos so much ♡
Oh my gosh thank you Morgan! ♥
I'm in love with this video and completely agree with everything you said. I just had one question, I've been using parchment paper and books for a few years and recently I've come to know that it may not be that good for pressing flowers. Do you have an opinion on this or think I should switch to another substance for pressing?
I’ve never heard that it can be bad for pressing flowers! from what I know it does absorb some liquid, which is good when pressing flowers! Also it protects your books etc. I’ve never had a problem using that or wax paper! ☺️
Would parchment paper work? I sadly do not have any wax paper
Parchment paper will do just fine but wax paper is best because it keeps it from sticking the most :)
@@AnnaShishmanov Okay! Tysm! Also sorry for the super late comment lol
Hi!! I really loved your video and it gave me the motivation for the herbarium assignment in school 🥺✨ I would like to ask what app do you use if ever you are not familiar with a plant you've found before pulling it out?
I used the app "Seek" to help ID plants or I will google search "(my area) + wildflowers"
I'm so glad you liked it! ♥
ur video is so aesthetic 💖also how long do I need to press the flowers? Is three days fine?
Awwww thank you!!! It really depends on the flower and how thick it is! I would say more like a week for a standard wildflower 🤎

Can i use normal paper instead of wax paper?
Btw ty for this video
Normal paper will do okay, It might stick a bit easier though!
@@AnnaShishmanov ohkay thxx
Hi can I use bondpaper instead of wax paper?
Of course, but it may not come off as easily! Wax or parchment paper will help it not stick to the paper :)
Do they ever mold????
No! Not if they’re a thin enough flower! (If it’s a thick flower you can hang it to dry instead and that won’t mold either!) :)
I save my orchid flowers and do this, flowers don’t grow naturally where I live :(
Well that is such a great start! I'm sure you could do it with some leaves too if that is more accessible!
I have dried a few flower using pressed book method.. all of them have dried but why when I put it on resin it turn yellow and green? Someone please help me 😭😭😭
Oh no!!! I've never done this so I don't have this problem! My only guess could be the type of resin you're using?! Good luck!!!
Awesome video!!
d'awwww thank you so very much!!!
Can I use baking paper because that's all I have?
Yes! It might stick a little more but just be gentle and it should be fine ✨
@@AnnaShishmanov Thank you so much!
