I get to see him fairly regularly at a cool local jazz venue called the Dakota. Great player with diverse chops....not only smooth jazz but also can play straight ahead jazz.

yes he has a wonderful tenor sax sound. I personally use a metal Berg Larson mouthpiece with vandoren blue box (classical cut) reeds to soften it up just enough for a similar sound. The tenor sax should always have a big full sound and Steve has that.
To say one Sax Player would do a better better job on this song is BS. It's different. Each musician has his/her own style and tone. If Richard Elliot, Dave Koz, Boney James, etc. you would probably get different styles of this song.
I agree with you on the matter. To say one saxophonist is better than the other is incorrect. Every saxophonist has his own style of playing. But, everybody has their own opinion of who they think sounds better. Personally I like Boney James style of playing, but that doesn't mean he is the best. It just happens to be what I like....

He sounds like a very accomplished player but I don't like that style of playing at all. And David Sanborn would have done it much better.
