So I got waaaaay behind on my March TBR (as a teacher and mom, this was a busy month) so I'm going to get to The Ninth Rain, the Bone Shard Daughter, and the Secret Project among other things in April. If you start Empire of Exiles, let us know, I have it and would totally do a buddy read! Also, my favorite part of your videos is saying "byeeeeee" with you 😁 Hope you have a great day!
Hahaha so relateable. Not me like 3 books behind what I had planned 💀🤣 ooooh yaaaas The Ninth Rain is great I hope you love it! And I’ve heard fantastic things about Bone Shard Daughter but haven’t gotten to it yet. For sure, will do! What’s your favorite social med for need to hit you up on?
Needy little fuzzy hookers the both of them. Jujubee has entered her era of copying whatever Katya does that gets her attention 🤣🤣 and yes indeed that’s what In the Lives of Puppets is it’s a dystopian Pinocchio retelling with androids if the reviews I’ve heard are accurate 🤷🏻♂️
YES SECRET PROJECT! I am pretty excited to read it too! And In the Lives of Puppets is another one I am also hyped for. I haven't had a bad time with Klune yet. House in the Cerulean Sea is the best, I liked Under the Whispering Door a lot but not AS much
Yaaaaas I’ll be checking my email at 11pm to start it tonight. And Alex works tomorrow so I can sit around and read ALL DAYYYYY. 🙌🏻 that’s fair I just didn’t vibe with the theming around what comes next after life. I tend to prefer not dwelling on that too much 🤣 but the characters were just as sweet and whatnot.
Jujubee is in a phase where she copies Katya, so today was the first time she’s ever cried while I was filming. Me giving them attention is probably setting a dangerous precedent but they’re so damn cute I can’t resist.
Great video Roger! I enjoyed Guns of the Dawn quite a bit, very atmospheric and a good story. I know you are busy finishing your phd (best of luck btw) but if you ever have the time I would really enjoy long form discussions and chats on your channel with other people. I know everyone and their mother seems to have a live discussion type series now, but I think you would be brilliant at it. I liked your chat with Theo a lot. No pressure but just throwing the idea out there. Have a great weekend!
Thank you!! Good to know I love me some good atmosphere in a book that gives me hope I might like GotD!! I do enjoy doing long form discussions and could definitely invite people on. Thanks for the feedback I’ll definitely try it out maybe after the PhD is over in a couple months and see how it goes!
Lol I love how demanding your cats are. Ooh, I am super excited to hear what you think of Empire of Exiles, I own that but haven't gotten to it yet. Hope your April reading goes well! I think I'm most excited for continuing the Green Bone Saga since I started that a few days ago and am loving it.
OmG so needy. I grab one to have the other scream, so then I ended up with both 🤣 here’s hoping empire of exiles is great! Oooh I still need to try Jade City I keep forgetting I have it 🤣
Sounds like an exciting TBR!! Hope these books will bring you joy while you suffer through the final stages of your PhD work, haha. Good luck!! 💕 Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Deadhouse Gates, I've heard such great things, so I am very curious! And I hope you enjoy Dreams of the Dying, I personally want to re-read that one because I totally read it at the wrong time in my life. It's pretty dark, but in the best way possible. Kris will hype you up for sure hahah. Happy reading friend 🥰
That’s the goal!! Trying to really focus only on things I’m excited for since these next two months are all leading into finalizing my thesis and doing my defense and finding a job…the stress is building so I really need escapist reads STAT. I hope I fall in the camp that LOVES dead house gates because I feel like many people have that as among their tops of the whole series. Yeah…I have heard DotD is crazy dark…we’ll see if that works for my head space. If not I’ll just put it down for now and pick it up in a few months when my stress levels are down. What’s your top read for April you’re excited for?
@@RodgersReads Sending you all the positive vibessss, you got this. The end is in sight!!! ❤ And I will keep my fingers crossed for you for Deadhouse Gates and DotD! I started my month off with the ARC for Seeds of War by João Silva, which I was suuuuper looking forward to (and it's been great so far!). Also have an ARC for The Book That Wouldn't Burn by Mark Lawrence which I am super pumped about. And I am going to be re-reading my favourite book of last year, Legacy of the Brightwash by Krystle Matar, because book 2 comes out on April 25 (one day after my bday!!), so I that's what I am most looking forward to. Oh and I hope to listen to book 4 and maybe also 5 in A Chorus of Dragons, because book 3 ended on a brutal cliffhanger and I am obsessed with this series now!! 🤩🤩
I love this channel! Literally juggling cats now. LOL! My wife says you've never been more relatable. hahahaha 🐉I tried reading TJ Klune but...not for me! I think someone said Brandon Sanderson's secret project 1 has spoilers if you haven't read the first three Mistborn books so I'm doing that first. I'm about to start The Hero of Ages and I am looooving the series! I think he might be a new favorite author.
Aww that’s so kind it makes me so happy to hear you like my channel so much. Haha yes, Jujubee has started mimicking Katya and screams while I film I guess 💀🤣 that’s fair TJ Klune definitely writes a particular kind of story with a particular kind of characters for sure. I think I might have said that in my spoiler-free review too. Although, it’s only a spoiler if you know the characters so you could have been safe without reading Mistborn but mistborn is so good!!! So happy to hear you’re loving it
Finished DHG this month and really enjoyed it! It’s definitely still pretty confusing, but hoping it works for you better than GOTM! I’m really excited for the new Klune book as well. ❤
Yeah I feel like that’s just Erikson’s style, it’s not so much foreshadowing as intentionally vague for a more dramatic reveal. Which is fine, but definitely not my favorite storytelling style. But I am looking for more gods meddling and truly epic displays of magic. And fingers crossed this Klune clicks for me like HitCS!!
Great video Rodger! I think you are going to LOVE Deadhouse Gates, fingers crossed for you! I truly enjoyed it more than Gardens of the Moon, although funny enough I look back with more fondness at GOTM now, appreciating it more as the series progresses! Happy reading!
@@RodgersReads I barely made it to the end of DHG, and then I temporarily DNFd Memories of Ice. I’ll go back to it, but I was just burned out by then. It took me three months to read DHG.
@@BookishChas ok good to know that it may be more of a long haul book. So don’t try to read it in like 3-4 days like I did with Gardens of the Moon, duly noted 🤣
Liked but didn’t love Gardens of the Moon is not a bad start as far as that book goes! I’m an outlier for really loving that one. Book 2 gets intensely dark at times, just FYI. I enjoyed Guns of the Dawn and am very curious what you’ll think of that one. Sending you all the postive vibes with the dissertation writing! 🐉
GotM was so much more D and D than I ever realized it would be. It wasn’t until after I said that to someone while reading that I realized that it started as a campaign. Intensely dark, duly noted. Thanks for the heads up!! Thank you for the positive vibes, at least the most stressful part of the initial write is over and now it’s edits which I find far less intense.
Deadhouse Gates is one of my favorites of the whole series. I'm excited to hear what you think of it. Every month that I read a Malazan book, I only get about 5 other books read. It takes forever to read a Malazan book. I'm looking forward to secret project # 2 in April and continuing with The Expanse. I'm obsessed with the Expanse right now. I don't even know what else I'll be reading, but I always figure it out. Good luck with your thesis stuff!
That’s fair. I always hear that but GotM read so fast I finished it in a few days. Sounds like I should not plan on that being the case with every Malazan book 🤣 the expanse eh? I’ve never read it but I saw parts of the first season of the show. Are the books better? 🤔
@Rodger's Reads The Malazan books get longer as they go. I think by the end, they're like 1300 pages. I can read a normal book in 2 days but Malazan took 2 or 3 weeks. I don't think everyone likes the Expanse like I do. But of course the books are better! 😄 The show is a pretty faithful adaptation tho.
@@akellerhouse83 oh lovely. 💀 do they warrant that length or are their chunks you think could easily be cut? 🤣 Huh good to know. I haven’t heard many people talking about the expanse book series in over a year I feel like it’s largely fallen out of favor in the bookish circles I run in these days 🤣
@Rodger's Reads um...I guess I wouldn't cut anything out of the Malazan books. It's hard to say. They are just dense reading and you have to give 100% attention to them.
