I wasn't sure about reading the sequel of cerulean sea because I loved the book so much and cried like a baby... But you convinced me to read it :))
You’re in for a treat when you get to it!!! The new child David is so cute and I just love seeing how Arthur and Linus support eachother and protect their little found family
I think a Sorceress comes to Call will be my favourite book of 2024:)
Valid, it is fantastic!! I haven’t even started thinking about favorites of the year by Empire of the Damned is probably up there and Somewhere Beyond the Sea…I always hate making those lists it’s so hard to choose sometimes xD
I read What the River Knows earlier this year, and really enjoyed it. I loved the setting, and just the feel of the book. I picked up the sequel, and am hoping to get to it soon! Great wrap-up!
Yaaaas so happy to find someone else who enjoyed what the river knows!!! I need to get to the sequel stat. Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🤗
I don't know if I should congratulate you for finishing Malazan or if I should feel sorry for you hahahah, the fact that you essentially already noped out at book 2 and then still made it to the end... you are crazy and I love you for it 🤣❤ Very happy to hear that Daevabad was such a hit for you. I read it a few years ago and wasn't totally obsessed, but I think a big part of that might have been mood and life circumstances at the time. Also, yes Dara is the worst hahahah And heck yes for Sorceress and Somewhere Beyond the Sea, those are both some of my recent favourite reads as well. Wasn't David just THE MOST ADORABLE little monster?! 🥺😍
lolol at least it is over xD How very dare you not be obsessed with Daevabad....but Dara can go choke lmao Yaaaaas I loved David and all of the kids. I also tried the audio and the way the narrator did Chauncey especially just made him even more charming.
@@RodgersReads yeeees the narrator is exceptional, he really captures the soul of the characters SO well!!
Hmm. I haven't read any of those except Crippled God. I plan to read Beyond the Sea eventually. I'm mostly just commenting for the algorithm. ❤
@@akellerhouse83 oh the Crippled God 💀🤣 Thank you I appreciate your help trying to flash my ankles at the overlord lolol
Not you finishing the entire black sun trilogy when I haven’t even started the first book still 😭 😭
Lmao not my fault you guys never started it. You guys just dodged it for months now lolol
Great video as always 😊🐙 a sorcereress comes to call is very high on my tbr as is the Daevabad triology! The familiar problem of too many books and you just can’t read it all at once or read all the time 😅. Hope you and yours doing well! 🌻
TOO MANY BOOKS NOT ENOUGH SPACE. lolol Definitely relateable. Well I hope you do love them if/when you get to them! We're doing good, life is just lifteng. I hope you are well too!
I’ve been curious about City of Brass for a while .. officially on the TBR now. Loved the amount of shameless gushing that came from your September reads 😂
Never ashamed if I love anything even if Esmay calls me a 5 star strumpet lolol
I'm just happy to see someone finish Malazan with a balanced perspective and not calling it the pinnacle of literature tbh
Hahaha definitely not the peak of anything for me, so I am glad I can be that more balanced perspective.
🪼🐬🐋
I just finished A Sorceress Comes to Call - so good!
Yaaaaaas it deserves all the love it has been going. Poor T Kingfisher is really haunted by horses 💀🤣
@@RodgersReads Right? I've read a lot of her works but never picked up on the horse thing until the afterword. I hope this excises her fear of horses 😬
@ 🤣🤣🤣 for real though. I love horses and she gives them a bad reputation 🤣🤣🤣
Darayavahdouche 😂 🧜♀️ 🧡
I mean….wheres the lie though? 🤣🤣
Awesome video Rodger! I wholeheartedly agree about Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I was worried it wasn’t necessary as well, but it was the perfect compliment to the first book.
Right!? Also I never listened to the audiobook for House but I did with somewhere beyond the sea and the way he narrated especially Chauncey made me love him even more. I’ll be curious if he ends up doing more books or if it’s done after this one
@ yeah I’m wondering if he’ll be continuing with more books too.
Excited to pick up Somewhere Beyond the Sea 🌊
Yaaaas you should do it stat it’s so good. Especially with the world being on fire still it’s a nice little hug to brighten your day in book form
@ that’s awesome and exactly what I need right now
🌊
Great video Roger! Happy to hear you’re still enjoying ROTE overall. I like Faithful and the Fallen quite a bit but I actually haven’t been that impressed with Shadow and Hunger of the Gods. Maybe I’ll read book three eventually but it’ll probably be awhile. I really liked Somewhere Beyond the Sea as well! I still think House and the Cerulean Sea is my favorite but it was so lovely being back with all those characters. Chauncey and Talia are my favorite. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!🏝️🦀🦦
Fair as I was saying it the caveat in my mind was unless you were obsessed with Corban and Storm and the closer knit cast of characters 🤣 but as a more plot-driven reader Bloodsworn was more my jam. Yay! Glad we agree on Somewhere Beyond the Sea. If you forced me to choose I’d probably say House also is slightly better but that’s where we watch the found family meet and come together for the first time. Chauncey is my favorite too!!
i love that intro!!!
Aw thank you so much!! 🤗
You got through so many books that are on my TBR 🥰🤣
Look at me go 🤣🤣
@RodgersReads 😍
So many good books! Happy to hear Cerulean Sea sequel is just as good ☺️
I’m surprised how many people haven’t picked it up yet 🙈 but hopefully when you get to it you agree!!
I have What the River Knows and Where the Library Hides on my library TBR and have holds on them.. once the sequel is available for me (I'm #5 in line 😭) I'll check them both out. I already have my own copies of The Daevabad trilogy and can't wait to read them! I also have the accompanying short story collection The River of Silver... stories set before, during, and after the trilogy. Will you be reading that one as well? 😊
Oooh I keep forgetting the sequel is out now I need to go put a hold on it stat. I hope you have fun whenever the library gods grace you with it 🤣 I need to read the short story collection, I haven’t gotten to it yet but I want to!
lol me being truly disappointing, dnf-ing your fave of the month 😆
Psssh that’s nothing you already DNF’ed one of my favorite series of all time 💀🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@RodgersReads haha oh yeah I forgot about that oops
Awesome update Rodger! I reread Cerulean Sea as well in anticipation for the sequel, and it was even better the second time. I recently bought the Rainwild books so I can have them for next year.
Thanks Chas!! Yaaaas the HitCS and somewhere beyond the sea are both so friggin good. I’m surprised how few people seem to have picked up the sequel at least in my corner of booktube. I hope you have a great time with Rainwilds! That reminds me I need to get my hands on book 2 of Fitz and the fool to keep on track with my goals.
I felt the exact same about When the Moon Hatched! I DNFd at around 50% as I couldn't do it anymore.
You made the wise choice. Some days I wish I was better about dnfing 💀🤣🤣
Here for the overall Malazan wrap up! It would certainly be a different flavour of Malazan videos on booktube 🤣 Shadow of the Gods - better than Faithful in the Fallen?
It will definitely be a different flavor of video. 💀🤣🤣 someday you’ll finish the series and maybe we can have a liveshow or something about it. For me yes, it was better in every way from the world to the magic to the characters, the only thing it was missing was Storm but there were animal-like companions that I still quite enjoyed
I loooveed this book!
I agreed I can’t wait for the sequel I feel like we’ve been waiting forever 👀
oh boy, I read Captive Prince so many years ago and let's just say I did not continue the series lol. I've been curious about Goddess of the River (and her first book too). Oooh and Ascension! I'm hoping it'll be the dragon fantasy I've been craving. I feel like I've read a lot of bad & mid dragon books lately. You're really making your way through Realm of the Elderlings!! I'm so glad the Jandy Nelson book worked so well for you! It's always heartwarming to find a character you can see yourself in.
Needless to say I also have not continued with the series 💀 I definitely think Ascencsion with be the dragon fantasy you have been hoping for. It’s up there with Dragon Mage as my favorite boy and his dragon style fantasy. I know right? Just two more RotE books and I’ll have finished both that and Malazan this year 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Omg it’s so good. You should read when the world tips over I think you’d really like it
Okay cute PR Package!! Love the vibes, so creative. Great wrap up, look forward to the next!!
@@noelanikaanana right? Well done penguin. Aw thank you!!! Trying to get back on a once a week schedule so it shouldn’t be too too long before the next one
📼📼📼
Ok, you caught me just when I needed a new graphic read, so I've got Witch Hat Atelier out from the library :)
@@paperback_cat yaaaaaaas I hope you love it!!!
Look at you being a 5-star strumpet!! I had no idea Ransom Riggs had a new release, the marketing team has been doing that book dirty it seems... thanks for putting it on my radar, it sounds absolutely amazing! 🥳 Now, I reallyyy need to re-read Shadow of the Gods and binge out Bloodsworn now that it's complete! And ugh yes can't say enough good things about Cerulean. I almost re-read it before the new one but then I just decided to go straight into that one first and AAAH it was so wholesome. I simply ADORE those characters, especially Chauncey and Lucy 🤩🤩 Also how have I not read The Jasmine Throne yet?! Shame on me...
I know she’s just giving it out for free 💀🤣🤣🤣🤣 They really haven’t marketed much but it’s sooooo good I think you’ll love it. I mean luckily John Gwynne does solid “what came before” style recaps at the start of books 2 and 3 so you might be able to skip the reread if you’re crunched on time 👀 I friggin adore Chauncey and Lucy. And the sequel was so good, it’ll be in my September wrap up hopefully next week. I was so nervous about the sequel but it was just as adorable. How have you not read the Jasmine Throne?! I mean the conclusion comes out next month so now you can just binge the whole trilogy 💀
@@RodgersReads Yeah friend bold of you to assume that my memory is good enough to get by with a 'story so far' section hahah 🤣🥲 I am eager for a re-read though! Looking forward to the next wrap-up and more Cerulean gushing! And I am gonna make Jasmine Throne early 2025 priority for sure ;)))
@ lmao that’s fair, there are quite a few characters and places to be refreshed on 💀🤣 Yaaaaaasssss I love that series so much. And I’ll hold you to it because you’re missing out. Hopefully she really sticks the landing in the finale
I'm going to check out the ransom Riggs book
Yaaaaaas send me all your thoughts whenever you get around to it!!!
@@RodgersReads Will do. I put it on my wish list. Fingers crossed 😊
Such a treat all these Rodger videos we are getting lately!
I know who even am I? Weekly videos for almost a month?! 🤣 I’m trying to find consistency again because I missed chatting books with everyone
We always want more book shenanigans from you and Katia(?). 😊 Definitely interested in your take on Malazan. Last 3 books were my least favorite. Still loved them, but I am just more a fan of the first 7. Now that I've read the Kharkanas books too, I am excited to reread the last 3, since I have a bit more context for some plot points. Checking out the Ransom Riggs book. Thanks. 📼
Hahaha I just was so entertained by her need to snoof everything. We spell it Katya because she’s named after the drag queen Katya 🤣🤣 My favorite Malazan book by far was Gardens of the Moon 💀 but I will definitely do some kind of should you read or retrospective style hopefully in November. Yaaaaas I hope you love it!
Always a good time listening to your wrap-ups. Also, I'd enjoy hearing your full thoughts on finishing Malazan! Do a whole series review 😄 📚📚📚
Awww thank you so much. That seems to be the consensus so I will definitely do one probably in November.
I would love a should you read malazan video. I'm 90% sure I won't ever read it but I want the tea. I kind of want to know what the series is truly like because I'm curious 🫣😅
Hahaha ok. I’m planning to do it some time in November
This sounds like a pretty amazing wrap up for you! Love that 📼 I still need to read the sequel of Shadow of the Gods 😅 I hope I can get to it this winter
It was definitely a solid reading month for me in August!! Well now the whole trilogy is out so you can just finish the series 👀 at least John Gwynne does the what came before style summary at the beginning of the sequels 🤣
📼 great wrap up! 🎉
Thank you so much!! 🤗
Great reads! We’d love a Malazan dedicated video! I eat up 90s nostalgia, gotta read Sunderworld
Yaaaaaas I hope you love Sunderworld!!!! And ok I’ll put something together I think in November to give myself some time to figure out what format I want to do it in.
💜
Yes, please do a video on your Malazan experience! I read and enjoyed Black Sun when it came out. I felt good reading it as a standalone, and it sounds like I made the right choice. I also read Shadow of the Gods and had forgotten about "thought-cage" and "humping." 😆 I get that Gywnne was attempting Viking authenticity, but I also felt pulled out of the story with those word choices. 😂
Ok I will get around to it in November then maybe. I’m sure I have a different perspective than most people who have finished the series 💀🤣 🤣🤣🤣 right? I got used to it over the rest of the trilogy but it’s just such a jarring word choice that took me out of the story a lot in book 1
I read Love Live the Pumpkin Queen via-Netgalley a couple of years ago. It wasn't what I hoped it would be. It bummed me out that I didn't like it as much as I wanted to.
That’s fair I was on the fence for some of it but by the end I was satisfied with what it was but I could easily see it falling flat for people too
I feel like everyone loves the Crippled God but me! I think it was fine, but it didn't blow my mind. Maybe I'm missing something. Lol. I think it's pretty common not to like Dust of Dreams. I'm really glad I read the series, though. It feels like I accomplished something. You had a lot of reads is Aug. I'm pretty sure Aug was a down month for me and I only read 5 books that month. I'm on track for 11 books in Oct.
Well you’re not alone, I too was not blown away by the Crippled God, that will be in my September wrap up 🤣 that’s good to know that’s I’m not alone with Dust of Dreams. I’m not mad I read the series but I am happy it’s over 💀🤣 I had a lot of excitement because I had a job offer in August so I think that manifested in that month. Then I was the victim of a company reorg before I could even start which made me also read a ton to escape my feels 💀 11 books is a lot, you’re on fire this month
@RodgersReads oh no! So that means you didn't get to keep the job? I'm sorry. That really sucks. But you're well qualified and educated so I'm sure you'll find something awesome soon.
@ that does indeed mean I had to scramble to get my old lease back, cancel my new one, get my old job back etc. it was days away from being a total disaster. Aw thanks for the encouragement I know the right opportunity will come along eventually
Looooove the Eeveeloution shirt!! Oh no, I'm hoping to read Bride soon. I have a feeling it's not going to be my favorite Ali Hazelwood book (which I kind of figured since I don't like werewolves), but I was still hopeful it could surprise me! Wow, you're almost done with Malazan (but I wish you were enjoying the experience of reading it more)! That's fair about Jandy Nelson! I remember really enjoying it but I read it like 10 years ago. Hahahaha I love your description of typical fantasy romance. I'm very much looking forward to reading The Fireborne Blade! I've had it on hold at the library for what feels like forever. Yessss I'm also itching to pick up my next Hobb book (which is the first in the Tawny Man trilogy!).
@@MerrilyKristin yaaaaas, Vaporeon will always be my favorite but any time I play a pokemon game I tend to end up with a team of eveelutions + Mew 💀🤣 Good luck with Bride especially if you don’t like werewolves 💀🤣 it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great 🤣🤣🤣 I am officially done with Malazan I finished it either earlier this month or last month I can’t remember. 💀🤣 I think you’ll have a lot of fun with the Fireborne blade. And the Tawny Man is still my favorite series within the RotE. I’m working my way through the final trilogy I’m determined to finish that this year too that way I can go into 2025 having finished both Malazan and RotE 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Just 2 books left I can totally do it
The review for When the moon Hatched had me 😂🤣🤣 go off Rodger**** 🙌! such a pretty cover wasted.. I loved The Spellshop 🙌 Sarah Beth Durst’s backlist is supposed to be great too. I’ve added Threads, Ascendant, and Sorcery of Thorns back to my TBR, sounds like perfect fall reads
@@Jillybeanzxo lmao if only it had been as fun to read 💀🤣 Yaaaaas, I’ve read her Queens of Renthia trilogy and the companion and now the Spellshop and I’ve loved all of it. I really need to get on more of her works because I always love them. Yaaaaaas, SoT definitely fits the Halloween vibes
@@RodgersReads omg I can’t believe I called you Richard wtf 😅🤦♀️ I’m so sorry! Ooo I just downloaded The Queen of Blood! The never ending TBR thickens once more lol
@@Jillybeanzxo Hahaha it's all good I thought about saying something and then I was like oh well lolol Yaaaaas I hope you love it.
I will seriously never get enough of you ranting about all the insanity in popular romantasy books hahahah 🤣💀 Anyway, I am currently halfway through my re-read of Way of Kings and uuuugh I am loving it so much again. Very curious to see how the next re-reads go because I also loved each book more so fingers crossed that holds true! And I am definitely adding the Threads That Bind duology to my TBR, you've sold me 🤩
@@esmayrosalyne well when they stop being trash I won’t have to rant 💀🤣🤣🤣🤣 and WtMH was basically if you took the main character, and their backstory, from ToG and threw them into a romance similar to ACOTAR 🙄 Yaaaas I love when rereads just HIT. Oooh I hope you love it. It’s so much fun, the books are super short like probably single sitting length for you and it’s a complete duology….whats not to love?
@@RodgersReads so basically, you will never stop ranting hahahah and yeah can't argue with that about WtMH lol will def keep you updated on the duology!!
@@esmayrosalyne Maybe I just need to give up on hetero romantasy because it also suffers from me just being over heteronormative romances lmao I will keep an eye out for your thoughts
@@RodgersReads i mean, the queers do it better anyway so i fully support this hahahah
@@esmayrosalyne Facts are facts. I just wish there was more epic romantasy with queer characters but alas.
Awesome video as always 🌻 sorcery of thorns is such a delight, and I must read the spellshop since I only hear great things! ✨ Hope you’re doing well!🌻
@@WhiningMoon awww thank you so much. You definitely need to get on the Spellshop!! I think you’ll love it. I’ve been ok thank you, how about you?
@@RodgersReads so glad to hear you’re ok 😊🌻 tbh I just lost my favourite D&D character and I miss him 🥺🤣 (I’m glad for BG3 with mods soon I maybe am able to rebuild him 🤣I’ll never get sick of that game) did you ever lose a D&D character you were very attached to? (Idk if you play a lot but I recall you loving D&D/the forgotten realms😊 sorry if I assume wrong)
@@WhiningMoon NOOOOO what a blow. I haven't played D and D much since high school but I have fond memories of the owner of the local Rountable pizza letting my friends and me have a table and free sodas every Friday to play. BG3 is so good, so I hope you manage to rebuild and immortalize him there!!
I started The Spellshop, but for some reason put it back down. Will try it again later when I'm in a more cosy vibe. Have a great day. 🪴
@@chadia25 that’s fair I will say if you’re waiting for the true plot to kick in it doesn’t really happen until around the 50% mark. But I loved the cozy vibes but I can see someone getting bored of her cleaning up her childhood home and starting a jam shop 🤣
Oh I think Margaret Rogerson is planning a proper sequel for Sorcery of Thorns, at least she has hinted at it, that’s what I remember. But still book 1 hold up as a stand-alone pretty well, imo. I’m so happy to know you loved the book because si just love every single one of this author’s books but they can be a hit or miss for some people 😅❤ I just connect with each one in a different way.
@@nitzeart I would LOVE a proper SoT sequel so I hope we’re manifesting that this happens STAT. This was my first time with her work but I’m so excited to read more by her. The next one of hers that I have on deck is Vespertine.
@RodgersReads 🤞Yes I really hope we get a sequel. Every book from Rogerson is very different but I loved Vespertine so much. It's very... raw, it made me cry 😅 That rarely happens for me with books. Hopefully you enjoy it too! 🩷
I love Margaret Rogerson!! 💕
This was my first time reading anything by her but I can’t wait to try more of her works. I think I might do Vespertine next 🤔
@@RodgersReads Do it!! I love Vespertine!!
I cannot wait to read When The Moon Hatched purely because of how much you hated it 🤣
Says the guy who could barely make it through throne of glass… when the moon hatched os 3-4 X longer and had uncomfortably similar characters and character arcs 💀 and throne of glass did it significantly better 🤣🤣🤣
@@RodgersReads let’s see if I make it through haha 🤣 💀
@@AFictionalEscapist I will need all the DM updates as you attempt it 💀
