Rodgerrr!!! I've missed you but this video was well worth the wait!! 💖 YES Dance with Dragons was painfulllll. I low-key hate read that book, but the 2nd half had some redeeming qualities. I will never reread it, just give me the show thank you very much. Very fair on Liveships, I had the exact same experience and I think book 3 was my favourite but still... the pacing ugh 🤣🥲I'd put money on it that Rainwild Chronicles will be your favourite series in the RotE, that is much more fast paced, has amazing lore, has beautifully messy but very emotionally engaging character relationships, and is the most queer of them all! Also, stop making me want to reread Shades of Magic dammit I can't get my hands on the new release and it's making me hurt lol. Eager to hear more of your thoughts on the rest of Red Rising and FatF when you continue, happy reading!! 🥰🥰
Oh god yeah if WoW ever comes out I shall just be reading chapter summaries I’ll never re read these books I don’t think. Maybe some of the earlier ones but I’d prefer to just were watch the show. Oooh, I’ll be the true unpopular opinion if that’s my path since I have never heard anyone thing that series is the best. One can only hope 💀🤣 I certainly have thoughts on both of those as I am currently 60% into Ruin and have finished the first Red Rising trilogy 👀
@@RodgersReads Chapter summaries is already a hard ask 😂💀 And I have found 3 other ppl who adore Rainwilds (Books with Benghis Kahn, Anitha Gade & Bookslikewhoa), so you are welcome to join our little fanclub if you end up loving it hahahah And let me know your thoughts once you get to the end of Ruin pls!!
Completely with you on Red Rising. I DNFed the series after the first book. I’ll be really interested to see what you think about Live Ship overall once you are done.
I probably should have dnfed it after book 1 but here we are 💀🤣 Fingers crossed I like the ending of Liveship we shall see soon!! I have ship of destiny out from the library as we speak 👀
Missed your videos! 💕 I’ve DNFed Red rising twice within the first few chapters and I promised myself I’d try it again eventually buttttt yikes 😂 I think we have almost the exact same feelings towards Hobb…you make me feel validated hahaha Ohhh I’ve been wanting to read Sarah Beth Durst for ages!! You’ve completely convinced me here. 2024 tbr here we come 👀
Aww thanks friend! The end of the trilogy was decent but the two books to get there….the jury is out 🤣🤣🤣 Hahaha yaaaaas glad someone else understands my Hobb journey. It seems like everyone LOVES her 🫠 Ooooh I’d highly recommend it! I’m currently reading book 3 in the queens of Renthia
I really want to read Bone Smith. It's on my 2024 list. Amd i can remember i gave the GRRM book 5 stars. But....i need to reread them to sharpen the memory. But now you and Jashana made me scared hahahaha
My thoughts on why Red Rising forced the kids into the murder school: The golds in that society are genuinely awful, and doing that sort of stuff (murder, sa, etc,) to all the low colors. This school is meant to teach them how to be awful. Darrow refuses to play their game and instead teaches his new friends to not be jerks as well. It’s a society built on slavery of all kinds, where the golds sit at the top in luxury and literally ride on the backs of everyone else. Darrow knows this is wrong, because he lived through that. He saw people around him die because of the golds. So he chooses to infiltrate them and split them up by helping some of them recognize the wrongdoings of their people. In splitting them up, he’ll be able to cause a war that will destroy them from the inside out, and then that void can be replaced by the people who have been hurt by the oppressive system. I agree that he does kind of end up a white knight, and that’s not my favorite thing either. But every time he makes a mistake, he does learn the hard way that it gets people hurt or killed, and he wants to prevent that as much as possible. I just wish that sometimes that person suffering was him. Not that he hasn’t suffered enough. Just that everyone else shouldn’t always have to suffer to make him look good.
Interesting points Sarah. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! I think for me in light of the pride they take in being Gold it’s still a little weird that they let the kids murder and assault eachother as much as they want since they are just hurting other golds. I’d kind of get it if they had punks and other low colors or whatever and that stuff happened to them while the golds are at school. 🤔
Hobb can be difficult… I’m about to try again with Mad Ship and I’m dreading Malta… was that her name? The bratty pre teen who thinks she knows it all. But I love the ships and serpents so I need to know what happens! I’m anxious to try Malice!
Friggin Hobb. 🙄🤣 Yes it is indeed onnoxious ass Malta. She starts suffering for her brattiness in book 2 so at least there’s that? If you go in expecting marginally more magic but similar vibes to game of thrones I think that’ll set you up properly for Malice.
I think I've had enough of ASoIaF. I read the books and watched the show. And i tried to watch HotD but i couldn't finish it. I think I'm just over it right now. I'm sure I'll be back if Winds is ever released. I agree with you about Red Rising. It was fine. I read the first trilogy and then stopped. I wish I could remember what I read in Sept. I would comment about it. But I don't. 😆
If I hadn't endlessly heard Red Rising wasn't wasn't the best litmus test for the series I probably wouldn't have continued. I've read it twice now and while I appreciated it a lot more on re-read, my issues with it have only strengthened. I think it's an okay series, but way overhyped.
That’s fair. The show is far superior 💀🤣 if winds is ever released I will just read chapter summaries of the earlier books because….never again 💀 Yay someone who understands me about Red Rising. It feels like everyone LOVES that series and I truly don’t get it
I also didnt like Red Rising that much. Won't continue this series... The characters were just so generic. And as you said... The dramatic event about is wife is sich ridiculous:D
🩸 I keep meaning to read more of Song of Ice and Fire, but I've only read the first two books and I never bothered to read more. I don't like starting unfinished series when I don't know if there's going to be more.
Since you found the ADWD world-building tedious, I take it you would not be the target reader for Fire & Blood! 🩸 I agree with your Red Rising thoughts, and I never thought about the fridging device in that book before. Interesting! I really enjoyed Queens of Renthia! Book 3 was my least favorite, but it was still a delightful trilogy. Some of the romance dialogue was a little cheesy for me, but I enjoyed the forest setting. The female characters took center stage, especially with the Queendom concept. I would have liked more development in places, especially with the male characters, but it was still a good time!
The fridging is worse in hindsight with the retcon in Golden Son. I predicted it in RR but I thought I was probably reading too much into it and then GS pulled the trigger haha
I didn’t hate Fire and Blood. It’s def not my fav thing ever but at least the narrative device of having the maester compile what’s known was interesting and you know it’s going to be dry because it’s a history book. Whereas with the series itself it felt like having so much dry worldbuilding came at the cost of messing with the pacing of the actual plot for me. I was pretty shocked I don’t hear more people talk about that element but it’s so in your face if you think about it Oh boo that book isn’t the best, so far book 1 was better than book two so we might have a similar opinion there. Regardless it is quite a fun time!
@@thatsci-firogue 💀I didn’t even think of it as a retcon but that reveal had me rolling my eyes. Like of COURSE she was because Golden Son was so slow it just needed another dramatic tella novella moment 🙄💀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"For the love of god please shut up and move on" hahaha for real though
💀🤣 I mean at least it’s over. Silver lining 🤣
